The unintentional damage caused by churches today is awkward interactions between men and women. As a single you’re expected to remain single and not talk to men and suddenly expected to marry and be friends with your spouse but regular interactions between men and women are not encouraged . So we have a lot of grown-up women and men in the church who do not understand how to interact with the opposite sex in a platonic healthy way. And a lot Christian young adults end up having the wrong mindset that only people who are interested in them romantically are kind to them and as a result Women make it hard for men to be a gentleman by assuming that any kind gesture equates to romantic interest. I watched Kalief Browder’s story on Netflix and my heart is broken. An innocent 16year old Black male who was accused of stealing a BACK PACK. Very often we Africans minimize the struggle of African Americans because their struggles are more mental than the ones we faced in our various countries in Africa. We think they are soft because maybe someone you consider as having it all is suicidal or depressed and you looking from the outside tell yourself that the person is soft. All because maybe you had to walk a long way to fetch water or you sometimes went for days with no food. Emotional pain is more difficult to overcome because it is internal so let’s have some Empathy on our African American brothers and sisters.-Angela Njob. Africans abroad are often regarded more highly than African Americans. Africans in America are privileged because they know where they come from and if it came to it, they would have a home to go back to. A whole generation of leadership (Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and so many more) were murdered at young ages and all they wanted was equality. That too has a negative on the black experience because now as a Black woman with a desire to change the world in my own small way, It feels as I need to decide whether to preserve my life (By not taking any risks, not offending anyone OR die young for speaking unpopular truths. ) « African Vs.
