22: Failing to First w/ Shawn Adams
2022/02/20
If you are a young professional or student, get ready for some serious motivation. Shawn and I had a heartfelt discussion about failing in university; dealing with obstacles in London, and learning about his journey to working with Bjarke Ingels on a major national project. We uncovered the secret to building your brand from scratch and raising your profile in a difficult profession. Shawn has used his architectural background to start a business in social consultation within the built industry. The POoR Collective is still in its infancy but is already making major moves.
21: Instagram for Architects w/ Fraser Morrison
2022/01/29
How do you build an online presence in the field of architecture or design? Is it 'bad' to want 'followers' and 'likes'? What opportunities are architectural influencers getting through social media? How can you balance a full-time architecture job alongside social media content creation? Join us as we talk about the importance of Instagram and social media presence as architectural practitioners.
20: London School of Architecture w/ Will Hunter
2022/01/22
How do you start an architecture school from scratch? What changes are coming to architectural education/university and the profession? What is so special about London? Join me and the extraordinarily well-spoken Will Hunter in a deep dive into how he started The London School of Architecture,(LSA) England's first independent school of architecture since the Architectural Association opened in 1847.
19: Excelling at Architecture School w/ Jordan Whitewood-Neal
2022/01/17
This episode is unique because of my and Jordan's close relationship and memories. We talked about much of our life in university together and how we felt part of a culture of intense competition. But was it all bad? I argue that we got immense value from this competition.
18: New Religious Identity w/ Rebekah Coffman
2021/12/26
Religious identity is changing rapidly in the west. As eastern-influenced traditions embed themselves in increasingly cosmopolitan regions, orthodoxy comes into question. Can orthodoxy become redefined through architecture?
Join me in this deep, unapologetic and powerful discussion with historian Rebekah Coffman as we uncover the hidden potential of architecture to define a new religious identity.
17: Architects in the Metaverse w/ Faisal UK
2021/12/24
If you want a quick introduction to all things metaverse and the future of our roles in the age of VR, this is the episode for you. We spoke about the fundamental nature of architectural thinking; the future of our profession; and whether Elon Musk is just a genius or an evil genius.
16: Architecture Content Creators w/ Rishabh Wadhwa
2021/11/28
Rishabh and I speak about the challenges in running social media platforms as students & architects. We openly spoke about how much money YouTubers/influencers can actually make. We also discussed ways in which people can drastically improve their career opportunities by being active on Instagram and YouTube.
15: Power, Racism & Systemic change in Architecture w/ Charlie Edmonds
2021/11/14
In the last year, the FAF and Charlie have been making waves in the field of Architecture raising massive awareness around the exploitation of architectural assistants in the UK. His campaign started as an Instagram poll and transformed into a national survey that was headed by the Architects' Journal. As a result of his whistleblowing campaign and continual social media activism, the Architectural Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) initiated institutional and systematic changes to address the issues and mistreatment experienced by those at the bottom of the profession.
14: The Story of Dezeen w/ Marcus Fairs
2021/05/25
In this episode, I spoke to Marcus Fairs, The Editor in Chief and founder of Dezeen. The world’s most influential design magazine.
Now I’m gonna be honest with you, I was a little nervous for this one. Because I’ve known the name Marcus Fairs since the early days of university, and Dezeen has had a huge impact not just on me but the entire field of Architecture. It’s changed the discourse. I never thought I’d be sat opposite its founder asking him questions about how he partied with Kanye West and flirted with Zaha Hadid. But Marcus was not an easy person to interview, probably because HE'S normally the one asking the questions!
13: The People's Art Critic w/ Tabish Khan
2021/05/11
In this episode, I spoke to Tabish Khan, 'The People’s Art Critic'. Tabish is a London-based art critic and regular writer for the Londonist and FAD Magazine. But he is also a biomedical scientist who cuts up dead bodies, but don’t worry that’s just part of his job.
12.2: The Business of Architecture w/ Rion Willard
2021/04/27
This episode is Part 2 of my conversation with Rion Willard, Architect, Business consultant, and host of the Business of Architecture Podcast UK. So if you haven't heard episode 13 yet, make sure you do.
Our conversation continued into understanding the deeper aspects of deriving maximum value with minimal effort as architects. But what was even more striking was Rion’s insights into how some practices are breaking all traditional conventions in the way they monetise their work!
12.1: The Business of Architecture w/ Rion Willard
2021/04/13
In this episode, I spoke to Rion Willard, Architect, Business consultant, and host of the Business of Architecture Podcast UK.
Let’s talk Money… Or better yet, let’s talk VALUE. Architects are often illiterate when it comes to the art of making money, yet some designers and architects are multi-multi millionaires. So what makes design worth a lot of money?
