Service Changes You | A Bonus Episode From "On The Ground with Samaritan's Purse"
2026/10/17
In this Bonus Episode of "On The Ground" | Service has the ability to radically change us. God can use serving others to mold and shape our hearts to look more like His. This is what happened in Angie’s life—a volunteer Kristy met while on the ground in Mississippi. Hear how the Lord is using Angie’s testimony to show others that they are never too far from Him.
Jason Taft, an assistant director with Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief, met Angie in Mississippi after a tornado tore through the southern part of the state. He was amazed by her skills on the skid-steer, but even more amazed by her story.
Angie has known about God her entire life, but she has not always walked with Him. Her upbringing was hard, and her adult life has been marked by many trials and disappointments. When twin tornadoes came through her town, Angie went out and served with U.S. Disaster Relief. She kept going back, day after day.
In her private life, Angie was in active alcoholism and plagued by grief. But when she was serving, she was not drinking. Angie continually cried out to the Lord for help. About a year later, God delivered her from alcohol.
Service was the catalyst that the Lord used to change Angie's heart. And now she gets to serve all over the country, using her abilities and sharing her story with homeowners and fellow volunteers. Angie tells Kristy about a particular moment on a deployment when her testimony blessed a room full of volunteers.
“And I believe that God is going to use all of us … And if people will just be brave enough to tell [their] story—it gets raw, but I'm living proof that God can do anything.” – Angie Polk

How God’s Compassion Responds to Our Self-Inflicted Pain (Judges 10:16)
2026/10/16
Today's Bible Verse:
"Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the Lord. And he could bear Israel's misery no longer." — Judges 10:16
What happens when our own choices lead to pain, regret, and difficult consequences? Judges 10:16 reveals the depth of God's compassion for His people, even after they repeatedly turned away from Him. When the Israelites abandoned their false gods and returned to the Lord, God responded to their suffering with compassion, reminding us that His heart is not indifferent to our pain.

Looking Up When We Feel Down (Psalms 121:2)
2026/10/15
Today's Bible Verse: "My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." — Psalm 121:2
Where can you find help when you're feeling down, discouraged, or overwhelmed by life's challenges? Psalm 121:2 reminds us that our help comes from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. Your Faithfulness is Not Forgotten (Acts10:4)
2026/10/14
Today's Bible Verse: Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.” — Acts 10:4
Do you ever wonder if God sees your faithfulness or hears your prayers? Acts 10:4 reminds us that God sees the quiet acts of obedience, generosity, and devotion that others may overlook. Cornelius's story shows that his prayers and generosity mattered to God, even before he fully understood what God was preparing to do in his life.

God Will Reward Your Faith (Hebrews 10:35)
2026/10/13
Today's Bible Verse: "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded." — Hebrews 10:35
How do you keep trusting God when your faith is tested and the outcome feels uncertain? Hebrews 10:35 reminds us not to give up our confidence in God, even when following Him becomes difficult. Faith requires perseverance, especially when prayers seem unanswered or promises feel far away. Why Does God Move So Slowly? (Exodus 14:21)
2026/10/12
Today's Bible Verse: "Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided." — Exodus 14:21
Why does God sometimes seem slow to act when we desperately need help? Exodus 14:21 reminds us that God's timing and methods may look different from what we expect. When the Israelites stood trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army, God made a way forward that they could not have created on their own. What seemed impossible became the setting for God's power and faithfulness.

How to Trust God When You Need Extra Assurance (Judges 6:39)
2026/10/09
Today's Bible Verse:: "Then Gideon said to God, 'Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.'" — Judges 6:39
Judges 6:39 shows Gideon asking God for reassurance before moving forward, revealing how easily fear and uncertainty can make us question what God is asking us to do. Even when our faith feels weak, we can bring our doubts and fears honestly to God and ask Him for the wisdom and confidence we need to move forward.

Why We Need a Childlike Faith (Matthew 18:3)
2026/10/08
Today's Bible Verse: "And he said: 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.'" — Matthew 18:3
What does it mean to have a childlike faith? Matthew 18:3 reminds us that following Jesus requires humility, trust, and a willingness to depend on God rather than ourselves. Childlike faith isn't about being immature or unquestioning—it means recognizing our need for God and trusting Him with the dependence and humility of a child.

Courage Comes From Believing God (Acts 27:25)
2026/10/07
Today's Bible Verse: "So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me." — Acts 27:25 (NIV)
Where does courage come from when you're facing fear, uncertainty, or circumstances you can't control? Acts 27:25 shows Paul encouraging those around him because he believed God would fulfill His promise. His courage didn't come from having an easy situation or knowing exactly how everything would work out—it came from trusting God.

How Will You Respond to Jesus? (Matthew 21:31)
2026/10/05
Today's Bible Verse: “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.” — Matthew 21:31
How will you respond to Jesus when He challenges your heart? Matthew 21:31 reminds us that following Jesus is not simply about what we say—it is about how we respond to His truth. Jesus uses the story of two sons to show that genuine faith is revealed through repentance, obedience, and a willingness to change.

2026/10/02
Today's Bible Verse: "The Lord turned to him and said, 'Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?'" — Judges 6:14
How do you move forward when you feel weak, inadequate, or unqualified? Judges 6:14 shows God calling Gideon to act even though he didn't see himself as strong enough for the task. God wasn't asking Gideon to rely on his own ability—He was asking him to trust the One who was sending him.

When God Doesn't Answer Your Question (Job 40:1–2)
2026/10/01
Today's Bible Verse: "The Lord said to Job: 'The one who contends with the Almighty will correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!'" — Job 40:1–2
What do you do when God doesn't answer your questions the way you hoped? Job 40:1–2 reminds us that there are moments when God may not give us the explanation we want, but that doesn't mean He has abandoned us. When life feels confusing or unfair, faith means trusting God's wisdom and character even when we don't understand His ways.

How to Trust God’s Promises When Facing an Unknown Future (Joshua 23:14)
2026/09/30
Today's Bible Verse: "Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed." — Joshua 23:14
How do you trust God's promises when the future feels uncertain? Joshua 23:14 points us back to God's proven faithfulness. Near the end of his life, Joshua reminded Israel that every good promise God had made had been fulfilled. When we don't know what lies ahead, we can look back at what God has already done and trust that His character has not changed.

Don't Forget Whose You Are (Joshua 22:28)
2026/09/29
Today's Bible Verse: "“And we said, ‘If they ever say this to us, or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the replica of the Lord’s altar, which our ancestors built, not for burnt offerings and sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’ - Joshua 22:28
Who are you when life gets complicated, your circumstances change, or you're surrounded by competing influences? Joshua 22:28 reminds us of the importance of remembering who we belong to. The Israelites built a memorial as a witness to their shared identity and commitment to worship the Lord, creating a lasting reminder for future generations.
