Today on The Message of the Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and the panel welcome special guest Pastor Maury Davis and as they study Paul’s teachings of the sin nature, which still resides in all Christian believers. Romans 7 makes it clear that Paul himself still sinned, but he greatly desired not to. Because no born-again believer is exempt from this reality, Scripture reminds us all that the sin nature cannot be tamed by self, but will remain dormant if our faith is anchored solely in the finished work of Christ.

Today on The Message of the Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and the panel discuss the proper place for disciplines in the life of a believer. We must be careful to not make those disciplines the focus of our faith. The law is righteous, holy, and good, but it does not supply us the power to live right. Only the Spirit of God, living in the New Covenant believer, can provide us the power to live out this Christian life as God has provided.

The Law functions as a revealer, not a savior. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss how the law exposes sin and points us to our need for Christ. The struggle Paul describes in Romans 7 becomes very real. The answer in Romans 8 shows where victory comes through the work of the Holy Spirit as faith is anchored in what Christ accomplished at the cross. The Law remains God's righteous standard, but the believer's confidence rests in Christ rather than in his or her ability to keep the Law perfectly. The commandment is not the enemy; sin is. The Law exposes the problem, while Christ provides the solution.

The panel emphasizes that Jesus Christ alone fulfilled the law completely, providing the only means by which believers can be made righteous before God.

Focusing on Romans 7, Brother Larson explains that the Apostle Paul is describing his struggle with sin as a believer, noting that Paul’s use of the present tense in verses 14–25 reveals a current battle with the sin nature even after his conversion to Christ.
