Send us Fan Mail In this episode we finish our study of Free Masonry  and the Masonic Lodge and begin looking at Holiness Churches. We start by  looking at the Masonic Ritual according to their publication titled King Solomon's Temple. In that ritual the Entered Apprentice in receiving the First Degree, is required to promise and swear a number of things. We note what Jesus said about swearing. We next look at the Fellow Craft Degree which is the Second Degree and the similar sworn statement that is required. The third degree which makes one a Master Mason, consists of reliving the legend of the Grand Master Hiram Abiff. We discuss what that consists of. We talk about what was done to Captain William Morgan who as a Royal Arch Mason wrote and printed a book titled: "Illustrations of Free masonry , by one of the fraternity, who has devoted thirty years to the subject". We close out the study of the denomination of Free Masonry by noting that the Bible says we are complete in Christ and have no need of Hiram Abiff as our Savior.  We move on to begin our study of the Holiness Churches. We note that there are 5 distinct groups all known by the term, "Church of God"  and have their headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. Though they now possess distinct difference, they can all be traced  to the work of A.J. Tomlinson. We discuss his work and what the groups have in common. We next look at the United Pentecostal Church, which is the more radical offshoot of the Holiness movement. Our time expired and we will continue this study next week. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, we will investigate the Masonic Lodge and its auxiliaries as a religion and consequently, a denomination. We note that there are many good fathers and honest, law abiding citizens in this organization. Their Shriner's hospitals for burned and crippled children have done much good. Many great men in American History have been members of the Lodge. Unfortunately, many Christians have joined their number. In this study we will be quoting primarily from their own publications, those published by the Masons. Their own writings will establish the religious nature of the organization and the problem this poses from what the Bibles, the word of God says. We talk about what the Masonic Lodge is by quoting from their own writings. On the one hand, Masonry claims it is not a religion in several of their publications. We read those quotations. On the other hand, we  read the quotations of several other of their publications that say it is a religion. We next discuss the specific, religious element of Masonry. We note they have their own Savior. They have their own Baptism. They have their own Fraternal Supper. They have their Prayers in the Lodge. Eternal Life is in the Lodge. Send us Fan Mail We continue our discussion of the Jehovah's Witness Church by first noting that they deny the deity of Jesus Christ. They teach that Jesus is a created being and does not have the same deity as God the Father. We discuss this briefly. We note that they  also deny the deity of the Holy Spirit. We look at passages like Acts 5:3 that clearly teach that the Holy Spirit is deity just as the Father and Jesus are. They also deny that man has a immortal soul and and no part of him continues after death. We look at numerous Bible passages that teach this is not true. They also deny the existence of Hell or Gehenna, the final destination of wicked souls. Again, we discuss numerous Bible passages that describe this place of eternal torment. We look at a number of miscellaneous errors they teach such as in the plan of salvation, in the organization of the church, in the establishment of the kingdom of God, and in the observation of the Lord's Supper. Send us Fan Mail We continue our study of denominations by looking at the Jehovah's Witness Church which was founded by Charles T. Russell. It had its formal beginnings in the early 20th century. We look at its history beginning with Russell and followed by a number of other men. We talk about these men, those they associated with and the gradual changes these various men made in the organization. We move on to a discussion of the structural organization of the Jehovah's Witness denomination. We note the two societies that they have, one international and one limited to the United States proper. We discuss the individuals who serve in the organization as well as the basic unit of the Society which is the local company of Witnesses, We begin our discussion of some of the false doctrines of the Jehovah's Witnesses before running out of time. But upon examination, they profess much that is contrary to what the Bible says. We look at what they say they believe, and then dive in to the particulars which are clearly contrary to what is true. Send us Fan Mail In this episode we continue our discussion of the organization of the Mormon Church. As was mentioned last week, it is highly organized, much like the Roman Catholic Church. We next take a look at the Mormon scriptures, beginning with the Book of Mormon. We note that there are 15 books in it that record the migration of two groups from the mid-east to North America. We discuss these groups and note where this story actually came from, that is called the Book of Mormon. We find that since the original printing, the Book of Mormon has undergone 4,113 changes - some minor, some substantial. We talk about some of these changes. We also note that there were a number of common errors in the original Book of Mormon that was supposedly dictated to Joseph Smith by God. We look at those. We also note some of the explanations Mormons have supplied to excuse these errors, many blaming the printers, even though the original handwritten copies are available. We look at two additional publications, Doctrines and Covenants and its predecessor, the Book of Commandments. Most Mormon doctrine comes from these two publications, not from the Book of Mormon. Send us Fan Mail In this episode we begin by continuing our discussion of the Christian Church denomination. We note that like the Roman Catholic Church, it is difficult to recount its history because it evolved gradually. We do know that the Christian Church developed out of the Restoration Movement that sought to get churches of the day to return to the principles found in the New Testament, not as denominations. But that attitude soon changed as a number of changes were instituted that were beyond what was said in the Bible. We talk about those changes. We note that the Christian Church says they have no creed, but in fact their creed consists of their beliefs as defined by their leaders in their conventions. We discuss the real problem they have in that they have an improper understanding and application of Bible authority. Consequently, various innovations and practices are done that are not found in the scriptures including the missionary society and instrumental music as part of the worship. We discuss these as they exist in the Christian Church. We move on to the Mormon Church and talk about Joseph Smith, its founder,  its history, as Joseph Smith claimed various "revelations" that guided him. We move on to the organization of the Mormon Church, but run out of time before finishing that subject. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, we continue our discussion of the Seventh Day Adventist Church denominations doctrines, teachings and views. We begin by noting that they insist on worshipping on the seventh day or Sabbath as was done in the Old Testament. We discuss the fact that Christians in the first century worshipped on the first day of the week and why that was the case. Next we noted their teaching on baptism as compared to what the New Testament says about that. We note that they  teach the inspiration of the Bible, but much of what they do is according to Ellen G. White's teaching. They term what they teach and do as , The Simplicity of Living, and have specified specific rules for their members to go by. They teach that man must be vegetarians like Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden. We discuss what the New Testament says about what we can and cannot eat. Send us Fan Mail The Seventh Day Adventist Church is a very large, international denomination.  It is among 5 other Adventist denominations who grew out of the efforts of William Miller in 1831 In Massachusetts. In 1833 Miller began preaching that the end of the world was at hand and predicted the second coming of Christ to occur in about 1843 and that His personal thousand year reign would begin at that time. , By 1840, Adventism was a significant religious movement  By 1843, they had increased to the point they became a loose organization, the sign of a new and developing sect. We discuss some of the things that were occurring at this time including Miller's setting the exact date of the Lord's return. We look at what happened when the Lord failed to return as predicted. We note that in spite of the failed prediction, there was still a sizeable group that formed the American Millerite Association. We talk about how Ellen G White became the leader of the Seventh Day branch of Adventism and the fact that her writings about her dreams formed the basis of Seventh Day Adventism. We conclude this episode by noting some of the doctrines, teachings and views of this denomination. Several others will be looked at in our next podcast. We look into their belief in eternal security or the impossibility of one falling away once he is saved. We talk about a number of passages that refute this teaching. We move on to note that the Lord's church was not established while John the Baptizer was alive. It was on Pentecost, a number of years after John died. We discuss John T. Hiscox's declaration in his Standard Manual For Baptist Churches on pg 62 that salvation is, "solely through faith". We discuss several passages that clearly show this teaching to be wrong. Today there are more than twenty Baptist denominations. We talk about when and where John Smyth or Smith first organized a Baptist Church. We note that there were two types of Baptists in the early days of the church's existence. We discuss  those different groups. We next look at the establishment of the Baptist Church in America in 1639 and where that occurred. A number of Baptist writers wrote about where the name Baptist came from as used by Baptists. We look at those writings. We next note how the Baptist Church today view confessions of faith and human creeds. We move on to talk about some doctrines, teachings and views of the Baptist Church such as divine election, predestination and eternal security. Glenn discusses the simplicity of the Lord's church as outlined in the Bible. We talk about the fact that no member of the Methodist Church may preach without a license, contrary to what the New Testament teaches. We discuss what women do in the Methodist Church that the Bible doesn't say anything about. We note that the term "reverend" is used as a title for Methodist ministers when the Bible applies that term to God exclusively. Like many other denominations, the Methodist Church teaches the doctrine of justification by faith only. We note what James clearly says in James Chapter 2. We discuss the doctrinal position the Methodist church holds on baptism and show by what the Bible says that they are wrong. Send us Fan Mail We begin this episode on the Methodist Church denomination by noting that even though John Wesley founded the Methodist church, he lived and died in the Episcopal Church. According to the Methodist Church, it had its origin within the Church of England. It was in 1729 that John and Charles Wesley began to entertain the beliefs that led to the development of the Methodist Church. John Wesley was a preacher in the Church of England. In this year they joined a group of students called a Holy Club. They were called a number of derisive name including Methodists because of the methods they used. Ultimately they adopted that name for themselves. The first Methodist Society was formed in 1739. Similar organizations were established after that. John Wesley provided rules and regulations for these Methodist Societies in 1784. Also in 1784, the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States had its beginning. We discuss a number of divisions and unions in the Methodist Church in the USA. We next talk about some of the doctrines, teachings and views of the Methodist Church, including its name, sacraments, baptism of infants, and where they changed their view on Total Hereditary Depravity. We note what Bishop James A. Pike, who is now deceased, said about the virgin birth and the garden of Eden, in which he disagrees with the Bible account. We next discuss an Anglican clergyman, Ernest Harrison, and what he said of the divinity of Christ in his book, A Church Without God. We discuss another Episcopal Bishop, John Shelby Spong wrote a book titled, Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism, which disagrees with what the Bible says. We note some Bible passages that show the errors in his teaching. We discuss the female lesbian who was recently installed as the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina. It broke away from the Roman Catholic Church, but much of it's organization and teachings are very similar and in some cases identical to those of that Church. They have a clergy-laity distinction which is not found in the NT. We discuss what is found there. Baptism in the Episcopal is done by pouring water on the individual. We again look at baptism as commanded in the New Testament by the Lord. Eric looks at the doctrine of transubstantiation, what it is and why it is erroneous. Arnie notes that they engage in confirmation of children, what this consists of and the two points of error included in it. We look at the differing teaching of the Catholic and Episcopal churches on salvation and note that both are contrary to what the Bible says.
