Sermon OutlineOpposition and Popularity
Jesus intentionally raises the stakes, demonstrating His authority, by healing publicly on the Sabbath. (Mark 3:1–12)
• The Setting on the Sabbath (3:1-3)• The Set Up and a Surprise (3:4-6)• The Success and Another Surprise (3:7-10)
The Twelve and the MissionJesus calls the first wave of disciples to be with Him and learn from Him, incorporating them into His Mission. (Mark 3:13-19)
• The Twelve (3:13; 16-19)• Invited into Presence (3:14) - The “be with” factor. •.Invited into Partnership (2:14) - Serving in SHAPE κηρύσσω - proclaim. herald, announce ἐξουσία - power, privilege, right (2:15)
Jesus intentionally alienates leaders who reject Him and chooses leaders who will follow Him.
Next Steps• Embrace the authority of Jesus to forgive, heal, liberate, and call you to Himself.
• How are you responding to the authority and mission of Jesus? Are you a participant or a plotter?
• How are you doing on the “be with” scale?
• How is Jesus asking you to serve Him “in your SHAPE”?
Home Church QuestionsRead Mark 3:1-19
“Stand up in front of everyone!” (3:3)1. Why was Jesus being so public and intentional about this healing?
“He looked at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts…” (3:5)2. What do you think is going on in the mind and heart of Jesus? Do we ever provoke this from Him?“He appointed 12 so that they would “be with” him…” (3:14)3. What does this look like in your life? What could this look like in your life?4. Growing out of “being with” Jesus, He “sent them out to preach.” We say “being precedes doing.” Do you need to focus on more “being” or more “doing”?“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22)5. What did you learn about God in this passage? How does this affect you?6. How are you encouraged or challenged by this passage?7. How will you respond to God this week?

Here comes the Son - Mark 2:18-28
Chris Moore
Sermon OutlineIt’s a new day (vv.21-22) . . .
. . . marked by joy because the Bridegroom is here (vv.18-20). . . marked by rest because the Lord of the Sabbath is here (vv.23-28)
Home Church Questions1. Mark 2:21-22 reveals it is a new day because Jesus has come. What are some ways Jesus brings newness? Are there any areas of your life where you need a fresh start?
2. Why does Jesus use the imagery of a wedding and a Bridegroom in vv.18-20? What are some lessons we can learn from this?
3. Jesus is critical of the traditionalism of the religious leaders. What is the difference between tradition and traditionalism? Do you tend toward the extreme of traditionalism or anti-tradition?
4. How had the religious leaders missed the heart of the Sabbath command in vv.23-28? What are some ways we miss the heart of God’s good commands?
5. How does the Lord of the Sabbath provide the deep rest that we crave (v.28)? Why is it difficult for us to experience this deep rest?
6. What does it look like for us to strive to enter His rest (Heb 4:11)? In what area of your life do you struggle to rest in Christ? What would it look like for you to strive to enter His rest in this area?
7. What truth did you learn about God in this week’s message?
8. How are you encouraged or challenged by this passage?
9. What is one step of obedience you will take this week?

Missions FocusUPG FOCUS: The Sok in LaosThe Sok people of southern Laos number about 2,900, with virtually no known evangelical believers. Living in remote forested communities, they rely on subsistence farming, hunting, and gathering, while following traditional ethnic religions centered on appeasing spirits believed to influence every aspect of life. Although portions of Scripture are available, there are few ministry resources and little gospel access in their own language. Pray that the Sok would encounter the hope of Jesus Christ, that workers would faithfully bring the gospel in their heart language, and that a thriving community of disciples would take root among them.

Sermon OutlineMark 1:29-45
Why the Secret?Jesus wants accurate representation (vv. 29-34)
Jesus has unique priorities (vv. 35-39)Jesus has a greater purpose (vv. 40-45)
Home Church Questions1. What is an example of a fun secret you have had to keep? Or give an example of a secret someone has kept from you?
2. One reason Jesus doesn’t permit the demons to speak (v.34) is because He wants accurate representation. What are some examples of false representations of Jesus that we experience today? How would you respond to someone who blames Jesus for what some of His “followers” might do?
3. In vv.35-39, we learn Jesus has different priorities than His disciples. They seem to be excited about the crowds and the spectacle, while Jesus has a more humble agenda. Why do you think the disciples would be excited about the crowds? What are some ways we can have this same mentality as the disciples? What are some examples of ways we can embrace the humble priorities of Jesus?
4. Another reason for the messianic secret is Jesus has a greater purpose. He knows He can’t be fully understood apart from the cross. Why do we often want the healing and glory without the cross? What are some specific ways God might be calling you to experience humility and the cross in your life?
5. Jesus’ victory over death means He will return and fully restore all things, and there will be full healing. What do you look most forward to about the day of His return?
6. What truth did you learn about God in this week’s message?
7. How are you encouraged or challenged by this passage?
8. What is one step of obedience you will take this week?
Finishing the TaskUPG FOCUS: The Tubu, Teda in NigeriaThe Tubu, Teda of Nigeria are an unreached Muslim people group of 4,800 people (165,700 worldwide), with 0% Christian and 0% evangelical. Living as nomadic herders in the Sahara Desert, they have a strong tradition of tribal honor, resilience, and survival. With no Bible translation in their heart language, they have little access to God's Word. Pray that the Lord would raise up laborers to reach the Tubu, open hearts to the gospel, provide Scripture in Tedaga, and establish a thriving disciple-making movement among them.

Introduction to the Gospel of Mark
•Message: Jesus Christ is the Promised Suffering Servant Messiah—Follow Him!
•Outline: Who is this Messiah? (1:1-8:30) • What Kind of Messiah is He? (8:31-16:8)
•Themes: Son of God - Son of Man - Servant - Discipleship - Authority - Action - Character Development
The Promise of the ProphetsThe Former Prophets Affirm that Jesus is God(Mark 1:1-3)The Preaching of the PreparerThe Forerunner Affirms that Jesus is God(Mark 1:4-8)
The Proclamation of the “Pater”The Father Affirms that Jesus is God. (Mark 1:9-11)The Power of the PersonThe Forces of Evil Affirm that Jesus is God. (Mark 1:12-13)
The Good News we need to hear is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, which is a message affirmed by many witnesses.
Read Mark 1:1-8
“The Beginning of the Gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (1:1)
1. How would you frame the “good news” of the gospel? Try to put it into one sentence. “I will send a messenger before you who will prepare your way” (1:2)
2. John “prepared the way for Jesus” by calling people to repent of their sins. How does repentance prepare the way for you to encounter Jesus today? “John came baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance…” (1:4)
3. John invited people into a baptism that symbolized their repentance and pictured cleansing from their sins, with forgiveness as the result. Jesus would come and actually provide the sacrifice for sins, bringing full forgiveness and the greater baptism of the Holy Spirit, symbolizing God's intimate presence with us. “I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit” (1:7)
4. In what ways is Jesus and His message greater than John and his message? “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22)
5. What did you learn about God in this passage? How does this affect you? 6. How are you encouraged or challenged by this passage?
7. How will you respond to God this week? The Proclamation of the “Pater”
UPG FOCUS: The Mappila in IndiaThe Mappila are a large Muslim people group living primarily in southern India, with a history shaped by Arab traders. Family and religious life are deeply influenced by Islam, and local imams hold significant spiritual authority. Although the Bible and other gospel resources are available, fewer than 2% of Mappila are followers of Christ. Pray that many would come to know Jesus, that courageous believers would boldly share their faith, and that God would raise up leaders who point their communities to Him.FinancesWeekly Budget 35,915Giving For 08/02 27,535Giving For 08/09 33,704YTD Budget 215,490Giving 165,252 OVER/(UNDER) (50,238)

How to Hear God: A Simple Guide for Normal People (2022) is a practical, accessible guide to developing a real conversational relationship with God. Framed around the Emmaus Road story in Luke 24—where the risen Jesus walks and talks with two discouraged disciples—Greig shows how God speaks through both His Word (Scripture, prayer, prophecy, and Jesus Himself ) and His Whisper (dreams, community, creation, culture, and the still small voice). Blending evangelical, charismatic, and contemplative traditions (including lectio divina), the book equips “normal people” with honest wisdom, personal stories, and tools to discern God’s voice amid life’s noise, turning monologue prayers into genuine dialogue. [N.B. Pete is a little more charismatic than I am, but in a healthy way.]
But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves upin this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the center of God’s love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life! The Message
The Most Important Verses of JudeVerses 17-23 are the most important in the letter of Jude. It is herethat Jude spells out just how he wants his readers to pursue the purposefor which he has written the letter: that they “contend for the faith once for all, and trusted tothe saints” (v.3). Jude specifies three things that his readers need to do: remember the apostolicwarnings about the heretics (vv. 17-19); Secure their own faith (vv. 20-21); and reach out torescue people in danger (vv.22-23). His exhortation is as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago.

Introduction: Bibles and Bible Reading - Some Surprising Statistics
The Current Crisis(Godless False Teachers are in the Church.)
• Predicted: False teachers have infiltrated the church (4a).
• Perverted: False teachers pervert the grace of God (4b).
• Profane: False teachers deny the Lordship of Christ (4b).
The Past Precedent(Three Very Good Bad Examples Illustrate the Certainty of Judgment.)
• Unbelieving Israel: Unbelievers were judged after being delivered (5).
• Angels: Rebellious angels are kept in darkness for later judgment (6).
• Sodom and Gomorrah: The perverse in the cities were judged by fire (7).
The Present Parallel(Arrogance and Greed Characterize False Teachers.)
• Conceited: False Teachers are arrogant and misunderstand authority (8-10).
• Predictable: False Teachers are selfish [like Cain], greedy [like Balaam], and rebellious [like Korah] (11).
• Dangerous: False Teachers are dangerous [like a hidden reef], selfish [like greedy shepherds], unsatisfying [like rainless clouds], dead [like a barren tree], shameful [like stormy waves], unreliable guides [like wandering stars], and destined for judgment (12-13).
The Future Prospect(False Teachers will be Judged by God and Angels.)
• Destiny: As Enoch prophesied, they will be judged by God (14-15).
• Character: They’re grumbling, critical, immoral, self-centered manipulators (16). The character and destiny of false teachers who will face an impartial and righteous judge should deter us from following them in the last days.
UPG FOCUS: The Amma Kodaga are a small Hindu people group living in the hilly regions of southern India, where they farm crops like coffee and spices and live in close-knit, tradition-rich communities. They practice Hinduism, blending cultural rituals with deep respect for family and heritage. Though the NT is available in their language, there are no known believers among them. Pray that they would be drawn to Jesus, that disciples would be raised up among them, and that workers would go to share the gospel.FinancesWeekly Budget 34,615Giving For 06/07 76,526Giving For 06/14 37,554YTD Budget 1,730,769Giving 2,044,634 OVER/(UNDER) 313,865 Automate the ImportantWe understand that the summer months can be a whirlwind of new schedules and travel. Pray for the Unreached: The Tarkhan in IndiaThe Tarkhan are a Punjabi-speaking people group in India, traditionally known as carpenters, with many now working in construction or the military. Most follow Sikh traditions, seeking closeness to God through good works, equality, and devotion, yet few have heard the gospel clearly. Though Scripture and resources are available, there are no known believers among them. Pray for a spiritual hunger to grow, for the message of Jesus to be clearly understood, and for the first believers to boldly share Christ within their communities.
