Amber Heard appealed the court's dismissal of her claims against her insurer, New York Marine, for not providing her independent counsel to defend against Johnny Depp. New York Marine argued that they were not obligated to provide Heard with independent counsel and, therefore, hadn’t breached their agreement with her. Donna Adelson was back in court for case management. The trial will begin at the end of September 2024 and she will have two court appearances before that for case status. Bryan Kohberger will also be back in court at the end of February for arguments over DNA and to hopefully set a trial date. In the Petito v Laundrie Civil Case, motions for summary argument have been filed by Steven Bertolino and the Laundries. Now that discovery and depositions are completed, the motions for Summary Judgement will allow the judge to determine if a jury trial is needed in May 2024. The fight for whether or not the TikTok Defamation case will settle upon Summary Judgement is ongoing. If the judge finds the TikToker liable for defamation, the jury trial will only be on damages. In 2024 Amber Heard still has litigation ongoing. Amber is appealing the court's dismissal of her claims against insurer New York Marine. Heard is arguing that New York Marine breached their agreement with her when they denied her independent counsel to defend her in the Virginia Defamation suit brought by Johnny Depp against her. Amber Heard had two different insurers who had hired attorneys to defend the case. New York Marine’s lawyers ceased representation of Heard before the Virginia trial. On January 23, 2024, Donna Adelson appeared in court for a quick status conference and to officially waive the conflict with her new attorneys. She hired the same attorneys that represented her son, Charlie Adelson, who was already convicted in the murder-for-hire of Daniel Markel. The Leah Remini v Scientology case was in court last week. The judge has scheduled the Anti-SLAPP hearing at a later date for further argument. Scientology Leader, David Miscavige, continues his efforts to be removed from the case stating he was never properly served. Remini details that her process server made 32 separate visits to 9 different addresses on 16 separate dates from August 2023 to December 2023, costing her thousands of dollars. Former Real Housewives of New Jersey, Caroline Manzo, sues Bravo for sexual harassment and assault by a former cast member. She claims that the network didn't protect her from the encounter and encouraged cast members to behave wildly for ratings. The Jury rendered a death sentence. He appealed the case, and the California Supreme Court overturned the death sentence but was still deemed guilty of murder and was to remain in custody without parole for life. Bryan Kohberger was back in court for a scheduling conference. There is a high possibility that the trial will begin in the summer of 2025 and can be between 12 and 15 weeks long. Murdaugh was in court before Justice Toal on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The status conference set the tone for the upcoming Evidentiary Hearing on Murdaugh’s motion for a new trial. Justice Toal made it clear that deliberating jurors and Clerk of Court Becky Hill will be called as witnesses. I'll be covering that proceeding, gavel to gavel, starting on January 29, 2024 Also, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Leah Remini v Scientology was in court in Los Angeles for the oral arguments on Scientology’s Anti-Slapp motion. A final order isn’t out yet, but I expect we will see that soon.    In New Mexico, Alec Baldwin was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter again. Both sides have made it clear they will not go into mediation regarding this lawsuit, making a court showdown highly likely. David Miscavige, the ecclesiastical leader, claims he was never properly served by Leah’s team and should be removed from the lawsuit. Leah has requested the court place an injunction on the church of Scientology due to their continued harassment campaign against her. The manner of which has become so severe that by the time the trial is over, her reputation could be irreparably damaged. The Church of Scientology has additionally filed an anti-SLAPP motion claiming their reciprocal right to speech is based on public interest. The court has been so overwhelmed with their back and forth that they requested both sides to stop filing motions while the court takes the time to review and consider the current motions prior to the hearing. Donna Adelson's hearing was postponed due to bad weather with further news that she is being represented by the same attorney that represented her son, Charlie Adelson. Bail has been set for Keefe D for the murder of Tupac Shakur. If bail is granted, he will be on house arrest pending the trial. The Chrisleys have won a civil lawsuit against the Department of Revenue for the state of Georgia. The 1 million dollar settlement has given the couple and their attorney's optimism for their upcoming federal appeal. Lastly, a judge has deemed Tom Girardi fit to stand trial after considering evidence of exaggeration and malingering from the disgraced former attorney. 2024 is looking to be a trial heavy year, will you join me in the coverage?
