ep 113: Count Vampula, Cryptids & Comedy Robots- Flight 1080
2026/10/12
Count Vampula joins Dave Michaels and Billy Armi to discuss Halloween preparations and the upcoming Robot Comedy Night! Dave and Billy also dive into artificial intelligence, local ghosts, mysterious cryptids, and the strange things lurking around the Monterey Bay. Plus, the second installment of The Poor Man's Financial Advice Hour delivers more questionable financial wisdom for people who ain't got no money! It's another episode of Flight 1080 filled with laughs, mysteries, and advice you should probably ignore. We apologize.
ep 112 – Beach Boys and Cavemen by the Campfire- Flight 1080
2026/10/03
Billy kicks off Episode 112 by committing what may be his most unforgivable offense yet: ripping on the Beach Boys and questioning whether they were even a good band. Weird. Then Unga and Billy Club gather around the campfire to get ready for Halloween, trying to scare each other with caveman versions of The Headless Horseman, The Raven, and their own terrifying personal tales. Fire, fear, questionable storytelling and two cavemen trying to out-scare each other—Halloween is coming to Flight 1080!
ep 111 : How Smart Is Too Smart? AI Tom on the Rise and Risks of AI
2026/09/30
Dave is joined by AI Tom, a longtime computer scientist, electrical engineer, programmer, and university instructor with decades of experience in hardware, software, object-oriented technology, and computational intelligence. Together, they discuss just how quickly artificial intelligence is getting smarter—and whether it may also be getting more dangerous. How close are we to AI systems that exceed human abilities in ways we can no longer predict or control? Dave and Tom explore where AI stands today, how rapidly it's advancing, and whether humanity is truly prepared for what comes next.
ep 110 – Words, Oktoberfest & Brokeonomics- Flight 1080
2026/09/26
Dave and Billy invent new words for those strangely specific emotions nobody bothered to name—like the joy of donating to 1080 After Dark, the terror of being chased by a murderous ex-wife, and the embarrassment of waving at someone who wasn't waving at you. We also celebrate Oktoberfest, tell some terrible jokes, tackle a brand-new Men of Science, and debut The Poor Man's Financial Advice Hour. The lesson? Give generously to 1080 After Dark. Apparently, that fixes everything.
ep 109 – Technical Difficulties, Old-School Skates & The Butt Sniffer
2026/09/12
Half of this episode disappeared thanks to massive technical problems—which may have been an act of mercy, considering it contained more caveman raps and a little karaoke. But the surviving half rolls on! Dave and Billy take a surprisingly deep dive into old-school roller skates and the evolution of skate wheels—from metal and wood to clay and rubber. Then, Episode 60 of the KSCO Murder Mystery, "The Butt Sniffer," brings things to a rear-ending conclusion as MZ, Warren Knox and Jim Twu meet their end at the hands of a transforming robot. Sometimes losing half the show is the best editing decision nobody made.
ep 108 – Local Trivia, Greg Gets Dead & Cavemen Get Fresh- Flight 1080
2026/09/05
Dave Michaels and Billy Armi are back with Words of the Day, an abbreviated edition of Men of Science, and a round of local history trivia. Then, the body count rises in Episode 59 of the KSCO Whodunnit, as economics professor Greg Hanle gets killed under some very strange circumstances. Plus, the cavemen grab the microphones again for more prehistoric rap!
Flight 1080 – Episode 107: Star Trek, De La Soul & the Caveman Rap Battle
2026/08/29
Dave and Billy trace an unlikely musical path from Star Trek actress Maggie Thrett and her song "Soupy" to De La Soul's landmark album 3 Feet High and Rising. Then, history is made with the world's first caveman rap battle, followed by another questionable expedition into knowledge with Men of Science. Finally, the KSCO murder mystery gets underway—until technical problems become the episode's most unexpected suspect.
Episode 106: Dolphins, Dumb Humans & Men of Science- Flight 1080
2026/08/24
Flight 1080 – Episode 106: Dolphins, Dumb Humans & Men of Science What if we had wheels instead of legs?  Dave and Billy ponder what it takes for a species to become technologically advanced—and why dolphins, despite being pretty smart, still haven't invented so much as a can opener. Dave commits an even greater scientific mystery by completely forgetting Billy's birthday, and Men of Science returns to tackle more of life's most unnecessary questions. Then, after revisiting the bizarre Six Million Dollar Man episode "Burning Bright," featuring William Shatner as a scientist obsessed with sending dolphins into space, Dave and Billy decide to test the concept themselves. Billy takes Mission Control while Dave becomes the world's first dolphin astronaut. What could possibly go wrong?
Episode 105: Jim Twu Knows Where You Are
2026/08/15
We test our knowledge of the world before Jim explains how the WNBA managed to land itself in its latest controversy. Then things take a more serious turn as Jim digs into the text messages reportedly found on Anthony Fauci's phone and what they may reveal. Geography, sports scandals, government intrigue—and Jim Twu. Just another perfectly normal episode of Flight 1080.
ep 104- Memories of Boulder Creek, California
2026/08/15
Dave sits down with longtime Boulder Creek resident Ron for a trip back through the early days of this historic Santa Cruz Mountains community. Ron shares stories from his years working for the phone company and the lumber industry, along with memories of everyday life, raising a family, and watching Boulder Creek change over the years. It's a personal look at the people, work, and way of life that helped shape one of the most beautiful communities in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Flight 1080 — Episode 103: Grizzlies, Idiots & a Rigged Professor
2026/08/15
Dave Michaels and Billy Armi tackle the Word of the Day and the delicate question: How can you tell if you're married to an idiot? Then, on Men of Science, Professor Armi's jealousy finally boils over as he begins to suspect the listener questions might be rigged against him. Plus, should California bring back the grizzly bear? And in one of those stories that practically writes itself, a weird sex toy manages to shut down an entire street. It's science, suspicion, questionable marriages, dangerous wildlife, and civic disruption—all aboard Flight 1080, Episode 103.
Flight 1080 – Episode 102: Mutant Babies, Mountain Monsters & Caveman Love
2026/08/08
Dave and Billy revisit the 1974 horror classic It's Alive and its unforgettable star—a murderous mutant baby with a serious attitude problem. Then we head into the Santa Cruz Mountains in search of mysterious creatures, strange folktales, local legends and cryptids that may—or may not—be lurking in the woods. Plus, Caveman Idol returns with another round of prehistoric talent, followed by the debut of The Caveman Dating Game, where romance is primitive, the bachelors are questionable, and true love may involve an angry badger. Mutant babies. Mountain monsters. Caveman romance. Just another perfectly normal flight on Flight 1080.
ep 101- Caveman Idol, Men of Science, and the Poop XXX Recruiters
2026/08/01
Caveman Idol, Men of Science, and the Poop XXX Recruiters Dave and Billy kick things off with another Word of the Day, return to the laboratory for a brand-new edition of Men of Science, and premiere the first-ever episode of Caveman Idol. Watch—or rather, imagine—as prehistoric performers attempt beatboxing, rap music, magic tricks, and fire taming with predictably disastrous results. The guys also discuss one of the strangest stories to come out of San Jose, California: an alleged scheme involving people being recruited to appear in "Poop XXX" movies.
Episode 100: Magic, Cats & Sleeping in the Nude
2026/07/25
Flight 1080 – Episode 100: Magic, Cats & Sleeping in the Nude It's our 100th episode, and we're celebrating the only way we know how—with complete nonsense. Billy and Dave debate the horrors of sleeping in the nude, share another collection of delightfully absurd cat poetry, challenge each other in another edition of Men of Science, and welcome the mysterious Mr. Billy Armi Genie Man, who stops by the studio to amaze Dave with a magic trick. It's weird, it's unpredictable, and it's everything you've come to expect from Flight 1080.
Episode 99 Men of Science and the Battle of the Sexes
2026/07/18
Episode 99- Men of Science and the Battle of the Sexes Who's easier to understand—men or women? Dave and Billy tackle the age-old debate as they compare the topics that seem to fascinate each sex, with predictably humorous results. The conversation also turns to some of Hollywood's greatest actors before another entertaining edition of Men of Science!, where one professor always seems to get the better end of the "randomly selected" questions. Join us for another fun-filled episode packed with laughs, lively conversation, and the unexpected.
