2022/06/27
The 44th episode of the ‘Beer n BS Show’
Join us as we talk shit so you don’t have to…
With a new format… the Beer or BS segment gets published a couple of weeks before this episode. It means you get the really funny part as a shorter self contained segment and this segment a bit later should you have a bit more time.
In this episode we catch up with Rachee Dee and discuss the wedding of the year, talk about the world famous Jorvik Viking Festival and Banquet that is held in York and wrap up by losing our shit talking about Bojo! What a C**T!
Enjoy the show, hit the sub button and leave us a review!
Grab a beer, put on your headphones (we are not suitable for children – Rachel’s fault – most of the time) and enjoy the show!
Ales Tasted:
Yu Lu by Siren Craft Brew (Pale Ale) – 3.6% ABV
Rachel rates 7.9 out of 10CassetteLord by UnBarred Brewery (Hazy NEIPA) – 6.6% ABV
Aaron rates 7.8 out of 10Jungle Trip by London Beer Factory (Hazy NEIPA) - 5.3% ABV
Geoff rates out 7.5 of 10Aaron's Craft Beer Suggestion:
Best Foot Forward by DEYA Bewing Co. (English Bitter - Cask) - 4.4% ABV
Best Foot Forward is a traditional English bitter with the finest Brookhouse hops. Fresh, delicious, English malted barley brings biscuit and light caramel character to the beer, while locally grown and processed hops bring a moreish dark fruit flavour and a firm bitterness. Fermented with our house yeast (an English ale strain) for light stone fruit esters and a thick mouthfeel. Packaged at lower carbonation to replicate a pint in the pub. Lush
Beer or BS - S01E01 - Weddings
2022/06/12
Introducing a new format to the show – we will be publishing the extended ‘Beer or BS Segment’ as an individual episode.
Have a listen as the team attempt to tease out the b******t from a number of facts (beers). This weeks ‘Beer or BS’ is about weddings and some of the stranger customs that have evolved over the years; like throwing shoes at the newly married couple or the bride wrapping a penny in a nettle leaf and shoving it up her ass! Enjoy!
The Beer and One B******t:
Let’s get the sexiest one out of the way… the word BRIDE derives its meaning from the word COOK, in that the bride was to be a cook for the husband. Talking about the 14th of May - Folk law says that May is the most unlucky month to marry in. Medieval brides would place a single penny wrapped in a nettle leaf between her buttocks. Clenching tightly onto the stinging parcel - this was thought to deter and drive away evil spirits that sought to devour her before her prospective groom. One British tradition dictates that males present at the wedding should throw their shows at newly married couple – for good luck. Vena Amoris – or the vein of love! It is thought we wear the ring on the fourth digit as the vein runs straight to the heart. The groom would, after the bride throws her bouquet, use his teeth to take of the brides garter… and throw it to the males at the wedding. The man who catches it… is supposed to go up the dress of the woman who caught the bouquet and have her wear it. Traditionally this pair were meant to share the next dance. The wedding ceremony traditionally ends with a kiss because, according to ancient Rome, the kiss is a legal bond that seals the contract.

British Scandals - Albeit Late Superbowl Thoughts - Musical Beer or BS
2022/02/28
The 41st episode of the ‘Beer n BS Show’
Apologies for our recent absence. Out host was under the weather and little overworked… hopefully we are back to normal now with out bi-weekly releases.
We kick off with a Superbowl discussion, albeit a little late. Aaron and Geoff have an semi-unqualified chat about the game whilst trying not bore Rachel.
The Trinity of British Scandals – There was a time that Etonian Toffs would tell you to be proud of being British when we gaze at countries around the world and point out corruption, dishonesty, deception, duplicity, fraud… when we needn’t look so far… The UK is currently a cesspit in a moral vacuum! Amongst climate problems, wealth inequality and the fall out of the bigot’s referendum (Brexit) and what we do now that we have left Europe… we have three concurrent scandals at the top of public life – The Monarch – The Police - Government!
Will you get our musical ‘Beer or BS’ quiz all correct? Grab a beer, put on your headphones (we are not suitable for children – Rachel’s fault – most of the time) and enjoy the show!
Ales Tasted:
Ravenna by Thornbridge (NE IPA) – 7.1% ABV
Rachel rates 7.4 out of 10Manjit's Pale by Horsforth Brewery (English Pale Ale) – 4.0% ABV
Aaron rates 7.0 out of 10Salted Lime Sour by North Brewing & Bundobust (Fruited Sour) - 4.2% ABV
Geoff rates out 7.8 of 10Aaron's Craft Beer Suggestion:
It's Only Forever by Polly's Brew Co. (American Pale Ale) - 5.3% ABV
We absolutely love Sentinel, but it has a tendency to knock us for six when we fancy a few scoops with it sitting near the 7% mark. An idea was mused by our own Matt in the brewhouse to make a baby version of the beer; an all-Simcoe pale ale, with the hopping rate of an Augment beer. Sure enough, the result is It’s Only Forever, named for another one of Scott’s “isms” whilst he was running the canning line late last year. Super ripe stonefruits, fresh mango, and pineapple notes are a-plenty in this kickass pale ale at a seriously sessionable strength.
2022 Barnard Ass Castle Awards with Special Guest Morgan.
2022/01/24
With 2021 behind us we kick off 2022 with our second annual Barnard Ass Castle Awards.
Tune in as we give gongs out to some of our favourite beers of the year, slap some amazing people on the back and of course name our Jovler of the year as well as give the infamous Barnard Ass Castle Award to a deserving politician.
We are joined on the show by Morgan. A long time listener of the show, patron of Quirky Ales and lover of all things craft!
Will you get our ‘Beer or BS’ quiz all correct? Grab a beer, put on your headphones (we are not suitable for children – Rachel’s fault – most of the time) and enjoy the show!
Ales Tasted:
Read Between the Lines by Electric Bear Brew Co (Kölsch) – 5.5% ABV
Rachel rates 7.4out of 10Imperial Banana by Vocation Brewery (Double Imperial Stout) – 11.4% ABV
Aaron rates 8.4 out of 10Rambler by The Porterhouse Brew Co. (Pale Ale - USA) - 4.6% ABV
Geoff rates out 7.2 of 10Cascade by Saltaire Brewery (Pale Ale - USA) - 4.8% ABV
Morgan rates out 8.0 of 10Aaron's Craft Beer Suggestion:
West Coast IPA by Cloudwater Brew Co. (West Coast IPA) - 6.0% ABV
The West Coast IPA is a modern classic that changed perceptions of what beer could be, and paved the way for today's craft beer scene. Our own approach is informed by experiences working with trailblazing brewers and diving deep into their celebrated beers, so this delivers the hallmark layered bitterness and a clean, dry, resinous finish alongside punchy flavours provided by a blend of modern and classic hop varietals.James O'Brien Links:

Nathan rates out 9.0 of 10Aaron's Craft Beer Suggestion:
Made in the Shade by Track Brewing Company (Porter - English) - 5.6% ABV
Made in the shade is our robust, warming porter. Brewed with a classic malt bill of pale malt with roasted barley, chocolate and brown malt, crystal and Vienna malts bringing the deep inky blackness. Fermented with English ale yeast to bring some fruitiness to the party alongside notes of hot chocolate, cacao nibs, coffee and a candied plum finish. Smooth and satisfying to the last drop.
What if... we throw a bunch of hypothetical situations at each other and see what rabbit holes we can fall down after a few beers.
2021/11/28
Apologies for missing a show last week… we were all stuck trying to clear customs at Peppa Pig World after Boris Jonson’s recent diplomatic visit to try and shore-up a bacon trade deal in the current post Brexit nightmare.
