Episode 76 - Stuffed Stoats
2026/02/23
This month, Jenny and Katie have dialed all the way into the Winter Olympics. Their personalities are now defined by pairs figure skating, cheating scandals, and the most important form of protection in the Olympic Village. Even though their obsessions have now reached clinical levels, Becca and Kelly decide not to stage an intervention and instead let Katie and Jenny share EVERYTHING they've learned about the performance fabrics, 42 year old figure skaters, Olympic moms, stuffed stoats, and the condom shortage in Milan. #relish
We are: Katie Basham, Jenny Hobson, Becca Parrish, and Kelly Smith
Recorded via Zoom in Kentucky | Edited by Kelly Smith | Music composed and performed by Elliot Green | Artwork by Jessica Holly
Episode 75 - Through the Roof!
2026/02/10
Our little town has been covered with ice for three weekends, and world news is bleaker than ever. It's time to round up what we've been reading and watching to keep ourselves going through the long winter. Do you need the National Zoo Panda Cam to get through 2026? Katie does. What about the romance novels of Willow Aster? That's Becca. A comfort rewatch of Veronica Mars? Kelly is thrilled that it's streaming again. And Jenny will not rest until everyone is as obsessed as she is with the drama of The Traitors. Listen in for more recommendations.

Episode 74 (Bonus) - Side Gigs
2026/01/27
A follow up on Jenny's #relish from Episode 74. Solid ideation here - 10/10!
Episode 74 - The Largest Organ
2026/01/20
In this episode we learn that none of us are big on New Year's Resolutions. We're just going to try a few new things, no pressure. We've reached the age where we know that we're not going to turn into new and magical beings just because the calendar changed. But Kelly's going to try to bake some bread and Katie's pretending she's a plant and giving herself more water and sunshine. Becca's opening a bookshop, which we all think is a big deal all by itself. And we're just hoping that Jenny's New Year's Resolution doesn't bring us to a new sector of the podcast world.
Episode 73: Stick It In
2026/01/06
Did you think you'd heard the last of us? We are so excited to be back in 2026. Our theme for the year is that we're making more time for fun and joy, and part of that is being together on the air. The other big news is that Becca is getting ready to open a bookshop in March, and the rest of us are picking up mops and paintbrushes to help get the space ready to open. Welcome back to the pod and to our lives.

Episode 72 - Minnesota Nice and California Cool
2024/10/21
The presidential race has shifted dramatically and how better to get to know the new candidates than through the regional experts at That's What We Said. No, we don't know VP Harris and Gov Tim Walz — well, Kelly has met Governor Walz once, thanks to her amazing nephew Justin Smith, Disability Rights Activist. But we do know all about the California Bay Area and about Midwestern Nice. Make sense of the Democratic candidates by hearing our tales of growing up in California and the Midwest.
Episode 71 - Bienvenue!
2024/08/15
Jump feet first into the Olympic pool with us as we recap our favorite moments of the Paris Games. We cover everything from swimsuits that don't cover much to Bob The Cap Catcher who has the swimming team's tresses all covered. Cry with us about Celine Dion. Ponder the new names of old sports and the arrival of new sports that maybe weren't ready for primetime. Ahem, raygun. And try to avert your eyes with us as we put that one moment on repeat.
Episode 70 - The Alpaca's B*tch
2024/07/29
A new episode after just 18 months? We say that's quick for four women who are definitely not trying to have it all, even if the "all" feels like it's been piling up all around us for the last decade. Seriously though, we found ourselves with some hope in our hearts and the energy to get back in the studio and not just because of the chance to poke fun at wannabe Kentuckian JD Vance. #relish #answerthecall
Episode 69 - The Birthday Episode
2022/12/14
Kelly has reached a milestone birthday, and we're taking a few moments to reflect on the wisdom we've earned in almost two centuries of living. Among the four of us. We're not saying Kelly is two hundred years old! In this episode, you'll get tips about car tweezers, grocery cart strategy, youtube fitness videos, and above all, cooking turkeys in bags. Call us, Reynolds Corporation! And stick around to hear how we got our Cracker Barrel breakfast comped in a Downton Abbey re-enactment.

Episode 68 - The Garden of Effing Eden
2022/07/04
Are you ready for rage? After the decision by the US Supreme Court to overturn Roe V Wade, we take some time for fury. If you're looking for actions and solutions, this episode is not for you as we're honoring the grief process with a week for anger before we get back to the hard work of bandaiding American Democracy. If you want to hear from four fortysomething women who are just as angry as you, then we've got the profanity-laced incoherence you need for this moment.
Episode 67 - Mysteries, Histories, and Mascara
2022/05/27
This week, we're talking about what we've been reading, listening to, and watching. We've got movies to be watched on planes, twitter accounts about home repair from the star of Our Flag Means Death, and weighty tomes about history. But this episode quickly turns into an intervention for Kelly and Becca who may have gone a little too deep into true crime, The Staircase, and the story of Michael Peterson. We just want them to not scare themselves silly right before bedtime. Stay tuned after the episode outro music for an 'easter egg' segment that's NSFDTKTSITFM -- that's Not Safe For Driving The Kids To Soccer In The Family Minivan. It's not safe for work either. Episode 66 - Beaver Research
2022/05/06
And we're back! Welcome to Season 3 of "That's What We Said." With some false stops and starts as we struggle once again with faulty internet and remembering our own names, we're ready to catch up. A lot has happened during our hiatus, including the controversial opening of a mega gas station in our community. Some of us have begun traveling for work again, and we have some stories from airports. Boy, do we have stories. "That's What We Said" is like spending Saturday evening on the porch with your friends, sipping a glass of wine and shooting the breeze.

Yay for Mae!
2021/10/26
It's once again time for some Kentucky politics on the pod! This week, we're excited to interview Mae Suramek, candidate for the 89th district Kentucky House seat. It's just a few days until the election here in Madison County, and we're talking to Mae about running for office, running a business, and starting a new podcast about the experience of Asian Americans in Kentucky. Mae talks to us about what it means to "do well by doing good." We hope you'll do good next week by voting in your local election, especially if you're here with us in Kentucky's 89th. And don't forget to check out "Where Y'all Really From" from Louisville Public Media.

Let Your Light Shine - With Wine!
2021/09/18
Have you ever felt like you REALLY WANT to do SOMETHING to help fix the the world, but can't find the time between working, helping with homework, shuttling kids to practices, grocery shopping, and #allthethings?
Joining us this week is Beverly Battle, an organizer & activist with Kentucky roots, who talks about her organization "Red, Wine and Blue" (check out their podcast!) that creates progressive political momentum by supporting women & helping us all learn how small actions can lead to big change. #relish

Episode 63 - Pulling Back the Curtain
2021/09/06
We've recently learned that we're the eighth most popular comedy podcast in Oman, so we're dreaming about the future of the pod in this week's episode. Coming up are episodes on Kentucky politics and Kentucky bourbon, although not necessarily in the same episode. We also want to know what our listeners want to hear. More tales of Katie Marie Kondo-ing her drawers? More library adventures from Kelly? More murder books from Jenny? Whatever our listeners want, we're prepared to bring it.
PS. This week, we're missing Becca who's off adventuring in Ohio.
PPS. If you live in Oman and are listening, we'd love to ask you why.
