A Day Without Love is the solo project of multi-genre musician and artist Brian Walker. He joins us today to talk about his new album, A Stranger That You Met Before, which also happens to have been produced by our own Kitzy, so this episode is full of stories from the studio. Brian also talks to us about community and collaboration, writing multi-faceted music with layers of meaning, paying homage to early influences, and so much more. Today’s guest is a repeat offender! Our listeners will know Zac Ross from one of the greatest pop-punk bands to come out of South Jersey, Man Overboard. He joined us last July to talk about his project Zachary Ross and the Divine, and he’s joining us today to talk about his brand new hardcore project, Slighted. Their album This Means War came out Friday September 29th. In addition, Zachary Ross and the Divine also released a new EP, King Dopamine, on October 5th via SmartPunk Records. Zac joined Andrea and Jenn to talk about both of those releases, writing music like a horror movie, the difference between making hardcore and pop-punk, being honest with yourself, and why it’s okay for women to lie. Superdestroyer is the solo project of the anonymous Ohio-based musician who is also the co-founder of Lonely Ghost Records. Superdestoryer’s most recent album, SoakedInSynth.Zip was released in June. He joined Andrea and Jenn this week to talk about SoakedInSynth.Zip, making music that sounds like being stuck in your basement, making music that sounds like being outside, writing about your demons, running one of the coolest, most unique labels around, and living on the Island of Misfits Toys. This week, Andrea sits down with Chris Payne to talk about his new book Where Are Your Boys Tonight? The Oral History of Emo's Mainstream Explosion 1999-2008. He’s got a list of credits a mile long, covering music for publications like Alternative Press, Vulture, and Billboard where he spent seven years as a staff writer and podcast host covering alternative and independent music. Andrea and Chris talk about the various scenes that birthed the bands who ushered in the emo movement of the early 2000s and the songs that best represent that moment in time. Payne has curated such a vast collection of voices from every corner of the scene(s) at the time, from members of bands like Lifetime, Thursday, Fall Out Boy, and Taking Back Sunday, to the people who watched those bands skyrocket to emo royalty (Hanif Abdurraqib, Jamie Coletta, Chris Gethard).
