HOLY HOLY HOLY: A BIBLICAL VISION OF WORSHIP: High and Lifted Up
2026/11/03
John is swept into heaven's throne room and sees a worship so pure it becomes the antidote to a world that runs on fear.
This sermon walks through Revelation 4, where John, exiled and suffering on the island of Patmos, is given a vision of God's throne surrounded by living creatures and elders who fall down in worship. The message draws a comparison to Isaiah's vision in Isaiah 6, showing how both visions remind God's people that no matter how much chaos or persecution surrounds them, God still reigns from his throne, past, present, and future.
The main takeaway is that proper worship starts with posture, recognizing that God is holy and we are not, and that true honor always flows upward toward him. This is especially encouraging for anyone feeling anxious or fearful about the state of the world, whether from political division, personal struggle, or suffering, because it points them toward the peace and access we have to God through Christ.

HOLY HOLY HOLY: A BIBLICAL VISION OF WORSHIP: I Saw the Lord
2026/10/26
Isaiah sees the Lord high and holy, and that vision changes everything about how he sees himself and responds in worship.
This sermon opens a new series called Holy, Holy, Holy by walking through Isaiah's vision of God in Isaiah 6:1–8. In the middle of a national crisis — the death of King Uzziah after 52 years on the throne — Isaiah doesn't look to politics or headlines but looks up and sees the Lord, high and lifted up, surrounded by seraphim crying 'holy, holy, holy.' The message unpacks what that encounter reveals about God's supreme majesty and unmatched holiness.
The heart of the message is this: when we truly see God for who he is, it changes how we see ourselves and how we respond to him. Isaiah's immediate response was not awe alone but confession ('Woe is me'), followed by God's gracious cleansing and a wholehearted offer of his life ('Here I am, send me'). This will encourage anyone who has drifted into going-through-the-motions worship and longs to encounter God with their whole heart — mind, emotions, and actions. The sermon closes with four practical movements for worship — adoration, confession, proclamation, and commissioning — that will be unpacked further throughout the series.

SPECIAL MESSAGES: Celebration Sunday 2026
2026/10/19
Pastor Chris Wigley looks back at a year of God's faithfulness at First Burleson, from baptisms to missions to generous giving.
This sermon marks First Burleson's annual Celebration Sunday, a day set aside to remember and give thanks for how God has worked through the church over the past year. Drawing from Joshua 4, where Israel set up stones to remember God's faithfulness in crossing the Jordan, Pastor Chris Wigley walks through numbers and stories — baptisms, worship attendance, life group growth, generous giving, and local and global missions — that tell the story of what God has been doing in and through the congregation.
The main point is simple: none of this is the result of human effort, but clear evidence of God at work. This message will encourage anyone who wants to see what a church devoted to making disciples looks like in practice, and it invites every listener to consider where they might get more involved — in worship, in a life group, in serving, or in giving.
The sermon also includes testimonies from church members about baptism, life group community, serving, and sharing their faith, along with an update on finances, facility improvements, and the church's growing missions impact both locally and around the world.

HOME VALUES: Leaving a Lasting Legacy
2026/10/13
A lasting spiritual legacy starts with loving God fully, grows through daily rhythms with Him, and survives only if we keep remembering what He has done.
This message closes out the Home Values series by walking through Deuteronomy 6, where Moses challenges a new generation of Israelites to carry the faith of their fathers into the future. Pastor Chris shows how legacy isn't about what we leave behind in an inheritance, but about what we pass down spiritually — and that begins with genuinely loving God with all our heart, soul, and strength.
From there, the sermon gets practical: building rhythms of receiving, teaching, living, and displaying God's truth in the ordinary moments of family life, and staying alert to the temptation to forget God in seasons of blessing and prosperity. This is especially encouraging for parents, grandparents, and anyone who wonders whether their everyday faithfulness really matters — and for a church thinking together about how to raise up a generation that knows the Lord.

HOME VALUES: Money Matters
2026/10/05
Money causes more conflict in marriage than almost any other topic, and this sermon shows why the real issue is always the heart, not the dollar amount.
Preaching from 1 Timothy 6:17-19, Pastor Chris Wigley walks through four practical truths about money: it's a matter of the heart, a matter of trust, a matter of stewardship, and ultimately a matter of the gospel. He unpacks how our upbringing, experiences, and personalities shape our money habits, and offers concrete tools like family budgeting, handling debt wisely, and saving for the future.
This message is for anyone whose marriage or family has felt the strain of financial disagreement. Rather than offering a guilt trip, it points toward surrendering our finances to God and discovering that generosity flows naturally out of trusting him as the giver of everything we have.

HOME VALUES: Keys to Communication
2026/09/28
Good communication doesn't just happen - it takes intentional, biblical practice to unlock healthy marriages and families.
This sermon walks through Ephesians 4:25-32, using Paul's instructions to the church at Ephesus as a guide for how families can communicate in a way that actually builds intimacy rather than distance. Pastor Chris looks at the parts of communication (words, tone, and body language), the levels of communication (from small talk all the way to true emotional openness), and then five biblical principles: speaking truth in love, handling anger without letting it fester, making communication a priority, choosing words that build up rather than tear down, and extending forgiveness generously.
The main takeaway is that healthy communication is less about having the right words and more about honesty, humility, and a willingness to do the work of really being known by another person. This message will encourage married couples who feel stuck at surface-level conversation, but the principles apply just as much to parents, coworkers, and friends - anyone who wants their relationships to go deeper. The sermon closes with a time of communion, connecting Christ's forgiveness of us to our call to forgive one another.

HOME VALUES: Reclaiming Intimacy
2026/09/21
This sermon looks at God's design for intimacy in marriage and how it has been stolen, perverted, and can be reclaimed by God's grace.
Drawing on Hebrews 13:4 and a church-wide survey, Pastor Billy Beacham talks honestly about physical intimacy in marriage — why it's rarely discussed in church, why couples often feel disconnected in this area, and how pornography, unfaithfulness, and abuse have corrupted something God intended for good. Using illustrations from Scripture, the movie Fireproof, and real stories from couples in the church, he shows that no marriage is too broken for God to heal.
The heart of the message is that intimacy is about far more than the physical — it's rooted in knowing and being known, the way God intimately knows us and wants us to intimately know our spouse. This is for any couple who feels stuck, disconnected, or ashamed, and for anyone wondering whether their marriage can truly change. Beacham's answer, backed by testimonies from within the church, is a hopeful yes.

HOME VALUES: Raising Godly Kids
2026/09/14
Ephesians 6 lays out God-given responsibilities for kids and parents, and this message walks through both before turning to real parenting questions from the church.
Pastor Chris walks through Ephesians 6:1-4, showing that children are called to obey and honor their parents, while parents are called to avoid provoking their kids to anger and instead raise them with intentional discipline and instruction in the Lord. He's honest that no parent gets this perfectly, and that the goal isn't well-behaved kids for appearance's sake but sons and daughters whose character is shaped by Christ.
In the second half, Chris is joined by his wife, Kathy, for a Q&A pulled straight from questions the church submitted over the summer. Together they talk through real, practical struggles - staying unified as parenting partners, disciplining without anger, technology and phones, protecting your marriage while raising kids, what to do when an adult child walks away from the faith, and the role of grandparents. This part will especially encourage parents in the thick of it, wondering if they're doing enough or getting it right.

HOME VALUES: Your House, Your Choice
2026/09/07
Joshua's farewell speech challenges every family to decide who will truly shape their home: the Lord or the culture around them.
In Joshua chapter 24, an aged Joshua gathers Israel one last time, retells the story of God's faithfulness, and then calls the people to make a decision: choose this day whom you will serve. This message continues the Home Values series and looks at what it takes to build a home shaped by Christ rather than by the pressures of culture and pace of life.
The sermon traces three marks of Joshua's faithfulness that can shape our own homes today — a history with God that forms character, a clear choice to serve the Lord above every competing loyalty, and a personal conviction strong enough to influence the next generation. It's an encouraging word for parents, grandparents, and anyone who wonders whether their family's mistakes or drift can be turned around, because the invitation to choose again is always open.

HOME VALUES: Building a Home, Not Just a House
2026/09/01
This message opens Psalm 127, a song King Solomon wrote as families made their way up to worship at the temple. Solomon built more than anyone in his day — palaces, cities, even the temple itself — yet by the end of his life he called it all vanity, because for all he built, he never built a true home. The sermon asks a simple but piercing question: are we building a house, or are we building a home?
The main point is that an anxious home is built on self-reliance and stays busy managing life, while a blessed home is built on the Lord and centers on relationships — Jesus first, family second, work and activities after that. Pastor Chris walks honestly through the pressures of overfilled calendars, phone distraction, and work or hobbies crowding out family time, and offers two practical shifts: trading anxiety for rhythms of rest, and letting family — not achievement — define success. This will especially encourage parents, young families, and anyone who feels like their home has become a task list instead of a refuge.
Throughout, the tone is personal and humble rather than preachy — this is a pastor working through his own regrets and priorities right alongside the congregation, pointing everyone back to the truth that children are a heritage from the Lord and that a home surrendered to Christ is worth more than any house ever could be.

HOME VALUES: A Healthy Marriage, A Living Portrait of the Gospel
2026/08/24
In this message from Ephesians 5:25-33, guest preacher Billy Beacham unpacks one of the most familiar passages on marriage in the New Testament and shows how it points to something bigger than the couple themselves. Marriage, he explains, is meant to be a living portrait of Christ's love for the church—husbands loving sacrificially, wives responding with respect, and two people becoming one over a lifetime rather than in a single moment.
The heart of the sermon is simple but convicting: teachability is the key to a healthy marriage. Drawing on Ephesians, Genesis, and Tim Keller's writing on marriage, Billy encourages couples to make their spouse their best friend, to serve rather than keep score, to consciously bring out the best in each other, and to let God grow them through the very relationship that knows their flaws best. This will especially encourage couples going through a hard season, along with singles and anyone wondering what a Christ-centered marriage actually looks like.
Billy is honest about the pain some marriages carry, sharing stories of couples who have seen God restore what felt broken, and reminding listeners that focusing on their own 10 percent—rather than their spouse's 90 percent—is often where real change begins.

HOME VALUES: The Design
2026/08/19
This sermon opens a new series called Home Values, which looks at nine biblical principles for marriage and family life. Pastor Chris begins in Genesis 2:18–25, showing that marriage and family were not humanity's idea but God's design from the very beginning of creation, and that His design was declared very good.
The main takeaway is that while sin has broken and distorted God's original design, God is a God of redemption who can take broken people and broken marriages and make something beautiful out of them, much like the art of mending broken pottery with gold. This message is especially encouraging for anyone who feels like their family doesn't fit a perfect mold — single adults, single parents, blended families, or those carrying wounds from the past — reminding them that God's grace and presence are for them too.
The sermon also unpacks three marks of God's very good design for marriage: it is a relationship of priority (the leave and cleave principle), a relationship of covenant rather than contract, and a relationship of intimacy marked by openness and trust, closing with an invitation to let Christ's love fill and flow through every marriage and family.

Sunday Message Recap - The Prodigal Son
2026/08/14
🚨 BIG GUEST ALERT 🚨
Daniel and Sam are joined by THE Chris Wigley to talk about what he's FIRED UP about, the end of our More to the Story Series, and what's coming up at First Baptist Burleson.
MORE TO THE STORY: The Parable of the Prodigal Son
2026/08/10
This sermon walks through one of the most familiar stories Jesus ever told — the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. Set against the backdrop of Pharisees grumbling that Jesus welcomed sinners, the story reveals a father whose love for both a reckless younger son and a resentful older son is far more extravagant than either son deserved.
The main point is simple but powerful: the story isn't really about how far a sinner can run, but about how far God's grace can reach. Anyone who has ever felt too far gone, or anyone who has quietly kept score with God like a dutiful older brother, will find real encouragement here — a reminder that the Father runs toward us, not away from us.
The sermon closes with two applications: personally receiving the Father's grace no matter which son we resemble, and corporately reflecting that same grace as a church that moves toward the broken rather than standing at a distance from them.
Preacher: Chris Wigley, Lead Pastor
