SBUnfurled and Lil Bona X are joined by new St. Bonaventure head coach Mike MacDonald. Coach Mac gives insight into his transition from Daemen to SBU over the last month, including navigating a chaotic transfer portal and how Bonnies basketball can improve player retention and remain competitive in the NIL Era (01:39 - 16:26). MacDonald also comments on his offensive and defensive philosophies and current player evaluations and roles (16:26 - 30:07), getting former Bona players and the entire SBU community involved in support and recruiting/playing locally, and his formula for non-league scheduling (30:07 - 45:50). We end with rapid fire questions on MacDonald’s ideal changes to NCAA, favorite music artist and TV show, one change he’d make to the Reilly Center, and one former Bona player he’d want to coach (45:50 - 56:30).

SBUnfurled and Lil Bona X are joined by Jonah Bronstein to talk about the incoming Mike MacDonald Era at St. Bonaventure. We get into our overall thoughts on MacDonald’s hire (0:00 - 8:00). Jonah Bronstein gives insight into why MacDonald can be a good fit for SBU in the NIL era and what fans can expect with his coaching style, tendencies and personality (8:00 - 19:35). We also get into what some of the more difficult parts of the job might be, how critical retention and player evaluation are, and what Daemen players could follow MacDonald to Bona (19:36 - 42:25). Plus, answering questions on NIL budgets in the A10, what players are most likely to return, what makes the hire a “success”, and who might join MacDonald’s staff (42:25 - 1:17:15).
