Advertise on podcast: Agents of SMOOCH

Welcome to our last mission to say goodbye to the Agency. It seems fitting that we do this on Valentine’s Day, exactly six years after we started. We’ve gathered a collection of Agents to reminisce about some favourite episodes, provide recommendations for what we should have talked about, and get sentimental about memories of the past 6 years. We are glad you are here to join us on our final love fest to celebrate what was and where you can continue to find us on the Incomparable mission. We love our listeners! Thank you for being Agents of SMOOCH with us. Host Annette Wierstra with Moisés Chiullán, Kirsten Goruk, Sandra Wong, Kathy Campbell, Shelly Brisbin, Micheline Maynard, and James Thomson.

Our Agents just love Paris and Rome, so we are returning to Emily in Paris for season 5. This time, we’ve got a new Agent joining us on this mission. We’ve put on our most fashionable spring outfits, but we can’t tell a real Fendi bag from a fake. Join us as we overanalyze our not-so-guilty pleasure. Host Annette Wierstra with Kirsten Goruk and Micheline Maynard.

We start the new year with a mission to celebrate one of our favourite Rob Reiner pictures: When Harry Met Sally. Although it’s been a while since our agents last watched this movie, it remains a strong example of a 90s romantic comedy. Join us to celebrate the fashion, the music, the supporting cast, and finally answer the question: can men and women be friends? Host Annette Wierstra with Shelly Brisbin and Micheline Maynard.

Is the Return of Doctor Mysterio the most romcom episode of Doctor Who? We think so. We’ve got superheroes, secret identities, snooping reporters, and invading aliens. This calls for Doctor Mysterio! Join our Agents for this Boxing Day mission and relish the 12th Doctor as matchmaker while he saves the world again. Host Annette Wierstra with Erika Ensign and Steven Schapansky.

This year is our 5th annual Holiday Movie Bingo Marathon. For this mission, our Agents watch three Christmas movies, including An Alpine Holiday, Merry Christmas Ted Cooper!, and A Keller Christmas Vacation. We unintentionally chose the theme of siblings, but there are still miscommunications, almost smooches, and European settings. And we learn that just about anyone can climb mountains in the Alps if you carry your yoga mat. Grab your Bingo Cards and get ready to play with us. Host Annette Wierstra with Erika Ensign, Steven Schapansky, Kirsten Goruk, and Sandra Wong.

Today’s mission is long overdue. Our agents have been preparing for it for 4 long seasons. It’s time to go to France, even if we can’t speak a word of French and are actually pretty bad at our jobs. This is a mission of love and of hate and Emily in Paris. Join our Agents as they explore why they are always annoyed with Emily and yet are enamoured with all the other things about this show. Host Annette Wierstra with Kirsten Goruk.

We’ve recently lost the iconic Diane Keaton, and the Agency wanted to do a special mission to honour her work. We chose The First Wives Club with Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and some amazing power suits. Join us for a celebration of women, friendship, and a good dance scene. Host Annette Wierstra with Heather Berberet, Shelly Brisbin, and Micheline Maynard.

The Agents are back with a Halloween mission full of magic and glorious 80s hair. Join us for Witches of Eastwick with Cher, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer with the devilish Jack Nicholson. Our coven walks through the important questions. Who is taking care of all those kids? Is Jack Nicholson actually the devil? What is the horniest scene? We can confirm that this movie is fun, campy, and perfect for the season of the witch. Host Annette Wierstra with Sandra Wong and Shelly Brisbin.

This episode of Agents of SMOOCH is a spoiler-light mission to convince you to watch the most Canadian of mystery shows: Murdoch Mysteries. This series, set in the 1890s to 1910s, is 18 seasons long and still going. We discuss the series’ ability to be serious and light-hearted, tackle social issues and zombies while staying true to itself. And - of course - we delve into the many romantic entanglements. We give no mysteries away and hope that by the end, you will be drawn into the world of Detective Murdoch with us. AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT! This is the last episode before we go into the summer break. We will be back in the fall. Until then, stay safe, Agents! Host Annette Wierstra with Amanda-Rae Prescott.

The Austenheads return. For today’s mission, we return to Austen with the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. This movie is packed with stars, beautiful scenery, and romance…and add in a flatulent horse. But we must also delve into inheritance laws and what is wrong with Mansfield Park. Host Annette Wierstra with Amanda-Rae Prescott, Sandra Wong, Shelly Brisbin, and Moisés Chiullán.

We are not ready to part from Pride & Prejudice yet, so we have extended our mission to include the 2005 version. This beautifully shot film provides our agents with a sweeping romantic version of the story that we cannot resist. Host Annette Wierstra with Katie Mack, Sandra Wong, and Moisés Chiullán.

We are here in praise of Austen’s Pride & Prejudice but also for wet shirts, poorly executed proposals, and good face acting. Join our much overdue mission about BBC’s 1995 Pride & Prejudice. Since this mission was as fun as a ball at Netherfield, it may lead to more infatuated missions about other Austen adaptations. Host Annette Wierstra with Kirsten Goruk, Erika Ensign, and Katie Mack.

Today’s mission is a slight jump back in time to 2003 to learn How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Does this movie have a ridiculous premise? Oh yeah. Do our Agents care? Not really. We just want to wear some diamonds and find someone to take care of our love fern. Host Annette Wierstra with Kirsten Goruk.

Get your snacks ready and PJs on. Our Agents of SMOOCH have a mission to draft our favourite sleep-over movies. The Agents side-track into important sub-missions such as Instagram pyjamas and the weather and what is needed in an official SMOOCH cocktail and pirates and… This was recorded as a membership episode so it does have some NSFW language. Host Annette Wierstra with Shelly Brisbin, Amanda McTaggart, Moisés Chiullán, KatyBeth Schmid, and Kathy Campbell.

In our last episode, we couldn’t get enough Star Trek in the Draft. So today’s mission is all about romance in Star Trek. The Agents gave their director some homework and she came prepared. es, this franchise is all about seeking out strange new worlds, but also sexy aliens. Really, a spaceship is just a locked room romance and we are all looking for love in confined spaces. Let’s meet on the holodeck and boldly go where no one has gone before. Host Annette Wierstra with Jean MacDonald and Shelly Brisbin.
