Elijah called for a showdown between God and Baal on Mount Carmel. God responded in a mighty way. He is the only God who deserves honor, worship, and obedience. This session will help kids think about things that may compete for the attention that God deserves (sports, school, gaming, friends). We will stress that God is the One we should obey and worship, not other things.

Joshua and the people stood outside the formidable city of Jericho. God spoke and told them an unusual battle plan. Joshua and the people chose to follow God’s instructions, and the city was conquered. This session will emphasize to kids that God expects obedience, even when that obedience goes against what we think we should do.

The people of Israel stood on the border of the promised land. They sent in spies to check out things. Ten spies said that the people in the land were too powerful and would destroy them. The people chose to rebel against Moses and God. Joshua and Caleb were the only people who chose to obey God. This session will lead kids to understand that people can choose to disobey God and that disobedience has consequences. They can choose to obey God even when others disobey.

The disciples did not see the value of children coming to Jesus. But Jesus said to not hinder them. Every person is valuable to God and Jesus. Christians should see the value of each person, no matter who the person is.

Jesus showed unconditional love to each person He met. He even loved the unpopular person like a tax collector. Christians should have a Christlike love for everyone around them. That type of love only comes from God.

In the garden, Jesus prayed to follow God’s will for Him. For Jesus, that led to the cross. Christians today can pray for God’s will to be done in their lives and in the world around them. This session will provide opportunities for kids to learn about prayer.

Kids: Jesus was tempted by Satan. Jesus used Scripture to resist the temptations that Satan brought. This session will help kids understand that God can help Christians resist temptations today through prayer and His Word. No one can be sinless as Jesus is, but Christians can strive to resist sin. Preschool: Washing the disciples’ feet was a way that Jesus showed His love and a way to teach them, too. Jesus helped His friends because He loved them. Jesus also gave an example of how to help others. This session will help kids to know that people can follow Jesus’ example and help their families, friends, and others.

Emphasize that Joseph, a man who had a lot of power, chose to show love and care for his brothers and forgive them. This session will help kids think about the work of God in the life of Joseph and the work of God in their own families’ lives. We can lead kids to learn that God had a plan for families and to determine ways to show care and love to their families. We will be sensitive for children that have different family dynamics including broken families, adoptive, foster, single-parent, and stepfamilies.

Kids: Family members should be ready to ask for or give forgiveness when wrongs happen. Forgiving family members is a reflection of the forgiveness God gives. This session will help kids think about situations that may lead to asking for forgiveness within families. Preschool: From the beginning, God planned for families. This session will lead kids to understand that God planned for parents to care for children and for all people to care for the world He made. We will be sensitive for children that have different family dynamics including broken families, adoptive, foster, single-parent, and stepfamilies.

Kids: All families have disagreements and conflicts. Abram took initiative to work out the quarrel with Lot. As the elder, he could have taken control of the situation and told Lot where to go. But he chose to work with Lot, allowing Lot to choose where to move. This session will guide kids to think about God's plan for families and about how family members can work out differences and live at peace together. We will be sensitive for children that have different family dynamics including broken families, adoptive, foster, single-parent, and stepfamilies. Preschool: God made people, His most important creation. People are different from the other things that God made. People can make choices. This session will help kids think about ways they are wonderfully made and ways God made them able to think and do things.

Kids: God created a man and a woman and placed them in the garden. God had a plan and made people in His image. This session will lead kids to understand that God created them and knows everything about them. We can focus time on the weekly verse reminding kids they are remarkably and wondrously made.  Preschool: This session will help kids understand that God had a plan and made different kinds of animals, to live in the water, fly in the sky, or to walk on the land. With older preschool and kindergartners, highlight that God made animals only after He had made water and plants for them to drink and eat.

Kids hear lots of different ideas on the beginning of creation. The Bible is clear that God created the world. This session will focus kids on the biblical account of our Creator. We can emphasize that nothing existed but God in the beginning. God had a plan and created everything through His word and His deliberate action.

Kids: A young ruler came to talk with Jesus. Ultimately, the man chose to walk away from Jesus, choosing his worldly wealth over following Jesus. This session will guide kids to think about this choice. People can choose not to follow God or they can choose to follow God. Each choice has consequences, and people are responsible for the choices they make. Preschool: Jesus told a story about a man who chose to help someone who was hurt. This session will lead kids to think about how they could help others. Choosing to help is a right choice.

Mary chose to give a gift to Jesus, anointing His feet. This session will lead kids to know that this unusual way to show love was something that people did in Bible times. We can emphasize that Mary chose to do this; she chose to show love for Jesus. This session will help kids think about people today and ways they choose to show love or not show love for Jesus.

This session will touch on the battle of Jericho, but we want the main focus to be on Rahab. Rahab helped the Israelites who came to spy in Jericho. She told the men that all the people knew what God had already done and were afraid. She asked to be spared. The men told her what to do and Rahab obeyed, trusting God and the men that they would do what they said. This session will help kids understand that many people in the world do not respect God, His authority, or His Word. But those who do respect and follow God show that by the way they live.
