Interpreting Complex Finance Across Cultures, Charters and Listed Reporting. Beulah Van Wyk
2026/02/25
In episode 65, I talk to Beulah Van Wyk, an accountant and former finance director/manager who now helps stakeholders troubleshoot, interpret and resolve complex financial situations. Beulah shares how she moved into accountancy in South Africa, her interest in the legal side of finance, and how M&A experience shapes decision-making because in-house teams must "live with" reporting and value consequences.   Listeners learn practical lessons on balancing management information with listed-company reporting demands, managing systems implementations under pressure, and keeping operations moving while maintaining controls. Beulah explains a real structuring challenge where government empowerment and local ownership requirements conflicted with an integrated plant that couldn't be physically split, requiring contractual, transfer-pricing and asset-boundary solutions over 18 months. She also describes turning around a fragmented multi-country African operation by centralising procurement, enforcing cash controls, and building cooperation across cultures. The episode highlights the value of "interpreting" between finance teams and non-financial leaders.   CONNECT WITH CAROLINE: Our club newsletter gives you real-life stories and examples of how our club professionals can guide you on 'How to Keep Your Money' Caroline's Club LinkedIn [email protected]
Wealth Management, Client Trust & Multi-Bank Solutions. Iskra Martin of Azura Partners
2026/02/17
In episode 64, I talk to Iskra Martin, partner at Azura in Geneva, who has over two decades in Swiss private banking and investment management and won the 2026 WealthBriefing Switzerland award for Women in Wealth Management (individual contribution). Iskra explains what she does day-to-day: onboarding and servicing clients across multiple banks, building KYC and provenance-of-funds roadmaps, restructuring wealth journeys, and designing portfolios aligned to risk and return expectations with investment advisors.   She describes how independence increases efficiency and flexibility, enabling faster decisions and tailored solutions such as sourcing mortgages in the right jurisdiction when one bank cannot help. The discussion covers building multi-generational trust, navigating strict cross-border regulation, and how Swiss banking has changed with heavier onboarding and reduced privacy while remaining a stable, high-quality platform.   CONNECT WITH ISKRA: Azura Partners   CONNECT WITH CAROLINE: Our club newsletter gives you real-life stories and examples of how our club professionals can guide you on 'How to Keep Your Money' Caroline's Club LinkedIn [email protected]

Is the UK Taxing the Wealthy Out of the Country? Dhana Sabanathan: Michelmores
2025/09/19
Is the UK's approach to taxing wealthy residents becoming so complex and stringent that it may be discouraging them, and their advisors, from staying, and potentially deterring others from relocating here? Dhana Sabanathan, the leading Partner in the Tax, Trusts and Succession team in the London branch of Michelmores, tells us more.   In episode 60, Caroline interviews Dhana Sabanathan, the leading Partner in the Tax, Trusts and Succession team at Michelmores, a UK law firm with branches in London, Cheltenham, Bristol and Exeter. Is Your Privacy in Danger of Being Hacked? Yes! Rob Moore: Token Recovery
2025/08/16
In episode 59, Caroline interviews Rob Moore, Head of Investigations at Token Recovery Limited.  If you went into a post office with a sawn-off shotgun and stole a few thousand pounds, you would be arrested. However, if you steal data from a criminal who has hacked into your computer and threatens to steal your data and dump it on the dark web if you don't pay a ransom of millions in cryptocurrency, the police do not want to know. The criminals then launder the cryptocurrency on the dark web and enjoy its proceeds. It is hardly surprising that criminals are making big money from computer hacking. This is now a danger to us personally and professionally, and we need to be on our guard.    CONNECT WITH ROB: LinkedIn Token Recovery   CONNECT WITH CAROLINE: Our club newsletter gives you real-life stories and examples of how our club professionals can guide you on 'How to Keep Your Money' Caroline's Club LinkedIn [email protected]

Future of Investment Management. Simon O'Donoghue: Spring IM
2024/03/15

It is the first digital platform in the offshore world. It is based in Jersey, where Simon lives with his family and claims to be the 'future of investment management'.   Simon's digital platform means there is no need for a meeting between the client and investment manager to 'onboard' the client. The three-step process of accessing your risk tolerance, choosing your portfolio, and deciding how much to invest can be done online, which reduces the fees needed to set up and transfer.   Simon's Spring is doing something right because it has not only won numerous awards in the first year of set up, but the judges were highly complimentary of the innovation and concept.   Well done, Simon.   CONNECT WITH SIMON: LinkedIn Spring IM   CONNECT WITH CAROLINE: Our club newsletter gives you real-life stories and examples of how our club professionals can guide you on 'How to Keep Your Money' Caroline's Club LinkedIn [email protected]
