"Faith or Sophistry: What Really Shapes Your Vote?"
2026/10/03
It sounds reasonable. It’s clever, polished, and easy to agree with. And it’s false. There’s a word for that: sophistry. This election season, it’s everywhere. So how do you tell the difference between what sounds right and what is right? In this episode of “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow,” host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret), his wingman Christy Mendelow, and guest Jeff Egli show you how to test everything you hear against the one source that never changes: the Word of God. This isn’t Republican versus Democrat. It’s the thinking of men versus the thinking of God. Which one is shaping the way you see this election? The thinking of men shifts with every election cycle. The Word of God never does. Politics is downstream of culture. Culture is downstream of faith. Get your faith right, and everything else comes into focus, including your vote. Test what you’re hearing this election season against the Word of God. This conversation will show you how. "Before You Vote: The Truth About the Separation of Church and State"
2026/09/26
Five words. Lifted from a letter. Turned into a wall between your faith and your vote. Most Christians can repeat the phrase “separation of church and state.” How many know where it came from? It isn’t in the Declaration of Independence. It isn’t in the Constitution. It isn’t in the Bill of Rights. It comes from an 1802 letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists, assuring them the government would stay out of their faith. For almost 150 years, courts quoted his full paragraph. Then in 1947, in Everson v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court pulled five words out of that letter and built a new idea on them with no legal precedent behind it. By 1962, prayer was out of public schools. By 1963, the Bible followed. So, who convinced you that your faith and biblical values belong at church but not at the ballot box? In this episode of “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow,” host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow lay out what the founders actually intended and why it matters when you cast your vote. George Washington warned in 1796 that religion and morality are indispensable supports of a prosperous nation. Psalm 127:1 says unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Election season is here. When you step into that voting booth, will you carry God’s Word in with you or leave it at the door? Available now at CourageousChristianity.today, on KKHT.com, iHeart Radio, or on select podcast platforms. Then open your Bible to know what God says. Read the Constitution to know what the founders actually wrote. And carry your faith and biblical values all the way to the polls. "On the Double: Why Taking It Straight to God Matters"
2026/09/19
Every conversation is going somewhere. The question is: Who is directing it? When God and His Word enter the conversation late, fear, frustration and opinion have already had time to take command. How far has the conversation already traveled without God? In this episode of “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow,” Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow examine what happens when we allow conversations, struggles and decisions to travel too far without God. Are you wrestling forward with the Lord or struggling in circles? Are you focused on what God has placed before you or overwhelmed by battles far beyond your reach? And when the pressure rises, whose voice determines your response? Press play now and hear how taking your conversations, struggles and decisions straight to God can change their direction—and reduce the collateral damage along the way. "Commander's Intent: Finding God's Will in Every Situation"
2026/09/12
Host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) draws on a term from his Marine Corps days for this episode: commander's intent. Every mission statement has two parts — what you're supposed to do and why. That “why” is always part of the order, but Colonel Mendelow points to what it does for you when things don't go as planned — it's what guides you, especially when the plan falls apart. In this episode, Colonel Mendelow and his wingman Christy Mendelow bring that same idea into daily life. A flat tire on the freeway. A coworker crying in the break room. Colonel Mendelow names God's commander's intent directly from Scripture — that He would be glorified, that we would love the Lord and love our neighbor as ourselves, and that none shall be lost. From there, the choice got simple: what is the loving thing to do here. Colonel Mendelow tells a story from his own driveway that put this to the test — a costly mistake, a stressed-out contractor, and a decision that had nothing to do with what he was owed. Listen now and hear what he chose. Listen at CourageousChristianity.today or on select podcast platforms. "Seen and Known: The Heart of Prayer"
2026/09/05
To speak to a general, Colonel Richard Mendelow needed an appointment. A respectful knock. Permission to enter. Because of Christ, we come into God's presence freely — not because we've earned it, but because His work on the cross has already opened the door. In this episode of "Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow," host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow talk about prayer — not as a last resort when everything else has failed, not as a vending machine for requests, but as moment-by-moment intimacy with a loving Father who already knows our hearts. Living in that intimacy means being willing to be seen. Vulnerable. Honest about our failures instead of pretending we have it together. Richard and Christy share a story that still convicts them — an encounter with a stranger in need where they offered money but missed the chance to offer prayer. Missed opportunities like that don't have to end in regret. They can prepare us not to miss the next one. Find out what it looks like to walk in prayer with God. "Threats to Christianity, Series Finale: It All Comes Back to Us"
2026/08/29
You've been told the enemy is out there. Turns out there's one we haven't named. Over the last few weeks, Richard and Christy have talked about the external threats to our faith on “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow” — comfort, opinions that don't line up with Scripture, what the world is doing to our kids. In the series finale, they bring it full circle: it all ultimately comes back to us. Every one of those threats wins with our passivity, not knowing our Bibles, our pride, not living out what we say we believe, our desire to fit in, or our fear of standing firm. Paul told Timothy to wage a fine campaign, maintaining faith and good conscience all the time — and that's the charge for all of us. Find out why your response is the one thing you can control. "Threats to Christianity, Part 3: The Quiet Danger of Comfort"
2026/08/22
The Marine Corps has a saying: the more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed in wartime. It applies just as much to faith as it does to combat. In this episode of “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow,” host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow continued the Threats to Christianity series with guest Jeff Egli—airline captain, rancher, and a man who understands the connection between hard work, struggle, and character. Together they took on a threat that doesn’t announce itself the way persecution or opinion does. It’s quieter than that. It’s comfort. Life is good. Church is an hour on Sunday. There are donuts, there’s coffee, and it’s easy to mistake that rhythm for the fullness of what faith is supposed to be. But Scripture is clear: our faith is either living and growing, or it’s dying. There is no still water. Like gold refined in fire, our faith is proven pure through struggle, not the absence of it. Romans 5 says suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope—not comfort. Find out why comfort might be one of the most dangerous places a Christian can sit still. Available now at CourageousChristianity.today and wherever you get your podcasts. "Threats to Christianity, Part 2: The Danger of Opinions"
2026/08/15
Fools find no pleasure in understanding, but delight in airing their opinions. Proverbs 18:2 said it 2,000 years ago. Social media continues to prove it. In Part 2 of the Threats to Christianity series, host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow address a threat that is not coming from the outside. It is coming from within—what Christians are doing to Christianity themselves. Opinions. Everyone has them. Christians share them freely—about the WNBA, about politics, about the Bible—often without having read it. And in doing so, the testimony of Christ is damaged, the uniform of Christ is dishonored, and the enemy scores a victory without firing a single shot. The military has a term for it: "combat ineffective." A unit that can no longer fight. That can no longer do its job. The devil does not need to silence Christians. He just needs to get them talking—loudly, wrongly, and without Scripture. Make sure your words are not working against the very faith you claim to represent. "Freedom of Speech and the Christian’s Responsibility"
2026/08/08
Your words are not your own. That is not a suggestion for Christians—it is the truth of what it means to follow Jesus. Everything you say, post, text, or speak into the world reflects Him. And in a culture where everyone has a voice and many don't seem to have the discipline to use it wisely, that responsibility has never mattered more. The First Amendment protects your right to say what you want. But Scripture holds you to a far higher standard—and for Christians, what is at stake goes far beyond a constitutional right. In this episode of "Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow," host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow ask what God's Word says about how a Christian stewards that freedom. Before you speak, before you post, before you send—three questions worth sitting with: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? You are not your own. And neither are your words. Find out what it looks like to be impeccable with your word. Available now on CourageousChristianity.today, on KKHT.com, iHeart Radio, or on select podcast platforms. "Threats to Christianity, Part 1: The Attack on Our Children"
2026/08/01
The enemy is not hiding. He is working in your child’s classroom, on their phone, and in the culture that surrounds them every single day. In this first episode of a new series, host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow address one of the most urgent threats facing Christians today—what is being done to our children. President Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission delivered a historic report in June 2026. The testimonies are real. An elementary student bullied for his faith. A teacher told to remove a cross or lose her job. An 11-year-old girl pressured by school authorities to believe she was a boy. This is not hypothetical. This is the battlefield. The victory is already assured in Christ. But the fight is real and it is now. Find out what it looks like to prepare yourself and your children for the battlefield they face every single day. "When You Lose Heart: A Christian Response to Discouragement"
2026/07/25
Discouragement is not weakness. It is what happens when you lose heart. And it can happen to anyone. The word itself tells the story. Dis-courage. No courage. No heart. And whether it comes from exhaustion, unmet expectations, or a world that seems to be getting harder by the day, every person reading this has probably been there. Host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow talk about discouragement in this episode—what it is and how to respond to it. Discouragement is not despair—it is temporary, it can be addressed, and God speaks directly to it throughout Scripture. Joshua 1:9 says it plainly: Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. The question God asks in that verse implies something important—He expected us to become discouraged from time to time. So, what do you do with it? You check your expectations. You come with humility. You focus on what you actually control—which is your own obedience, your own heart, your own next step. You do what you can, where you are, with what you have, and you trust God with the rest. That is not giving up. That is faith. Listen in for a conversation that will meet you where you are and point you back to the One who never loses heart. "Missed Opportunities, Part 2: Who Would You Be If You Were Paying Attention?"
2026/07/18
You have a plan for almost everything. Do you have one for loving your neighbor? In Part 2 of the "Missed Opportunities" mini-series, host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow pick up where they left off—and get practical. It is one thing to recognize a missed opportunity. It is another to figure out who you need to be so you stop missing them. The conversation moves into the difference between what and who. Most of us focus on what we did wrong. But the deeper question is this: Who are we when we are not at our best—and who is Jesus calling us to be? If you are anchored to Him, your eyes open. If you take your eyes off Him, like Peter on the water, you start to sink. Marines do not go outside the wire without a plan. They do not let the enemy choose their behavior. They act according to their mission, their commander's intent, and the values they serve. As a Christian, the mission is the same: love God, love your neighbor. The plan is what makes it possible. Missed opportunities are not just failures. They are invitations to grow. Listen in and find out what it looks like to show up with a plan—and become the person who does not walk past the need. "Missed Opportunities, Part 1: What Has Your Attention?"
2026/07/11
Have you ever missed an opportunity to do something good—not because you didn't care, but because you were somewhere else in your head? On a layover in Frankfurt, Germany, host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) walked past a hungry homeless man with a full meal's worth of leftovers sitting on the table behind him. He admits he was too caught up in his own disappointment to see the opportunity right in front of him. And it stayed with him. In Part 1 of this two-part mini-series, Colonel Mendelow and his wingman Christy Mendelow open a conversation that is less about failure and more about what is possible. Small acts of kindness—a recovered voicemail, a volunteer EMT saving a life at a parade, cold drinks taken to men working outside in the heat—are happening all around us every day. The question is whether we are awake enough to see them and present enough to act. James 2:14-17 makes it plain: faith without deeds is incomplete. Not because our works earn us anything, but because in our salvation, the desire to serve will grow. Loving others is worship. So what opportunities are passing you by right now? Listen in and be encouraged to open your eyes to what is right in front of you. Hear the show on CourageousChristianity.today, on KKHT.com, iHeart Radio, or on select podcast platforms. "Declaration of Independence 250 Years Later"
2026/07/04
250 years ago, men risked their fortunes, their families, and their lives to establish something the world had never seen—a nation built on biblical truth, dedicated to God-given liberty, and committed to the idea that our rights extend not from government, but from our Creator. That nation is still here. The question is what we are doing with it. In this special Independence Day edition of “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow,” host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) —Marine officer, immigrant, and Jewish believer in Christ—and his wingman Christy Mendelow reflect on America's Christian heritage, what it actually means to live in a nation so uniquely blessed by God, and what Christians are called to do with the freedom that was secured at such great cost. Liberty requires responsibility. The Supreme Court has affirmed this is a Christian nation. And if Christian Americans do not take their faith into every area of life, this nation risks losing the very foundation it was built on. Although the weekend of fireworks and festivities has passed, take time to tune in, reflect on what this nation was built on, and find out what four practical steps every Christian American can take right now to be part of the solution. "Real Faith for the Real World: Two Words That Change Everything—Series Finale"
2026/06/27
You know the feeling. You read something in Scripture, or feel called to do something uncomfortable, and then it starts. Yes, but... Yes, but the world won't like it. Yes, but it won't make a difference. Yes, but look at what everyone else is doing. With this show, the "Real Faith for the Real World" series comes to a close—and host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow get to the core of what it has all been about. Not yes, but—but God. Two words that change everything. From a pitcher who wrote a Bible verse on his hat and held his ground, to Rosa Parks who simply said no, to Bunni Pounds who said yes to a vision that seemed impossible from the start—the series has shown one thing over and over. Real faith takes courage. And courage is not merely believing the Truth. It is living it, despite perceived or real personal risk. So how do you walk it out? Tune in to find out—Richard offers four practical points to help you run your race, stay focused, and stop letting the world around you decide who you are going to be.
