Initially following his family’s passion, he studied medicine at University of Edinburgh but in this episode he lets us know how he segued into writing. He discusses his work and the professional relationship he has with Danny Boyle who directs most of his screenplays. Gary Young is a British screenwriter best known for writing Harry Brown starring Michael Caine. Gary started writing professionally over twenty years ago and has a number of award winning films and theatre productions to his name, and more recently he directed his first feature film, Two Graves which won Best Feature Film at the British Urban Film Festival. Barnaby Kay was born into a theatrical family. His younger brother Adam is in the business, his grandfather, Arthur Kay, was a leading light in community theatre in Northumbria, and his father was the actor Richard Kay. Barnaby went to drama school but left before completing his course as his father's agent secured him an audition with the Royal Shakespeare Company, which he successfully passed, debuting with them in the play 'A Jovial Crew', and returning to work with them on several occasions. He has since worked in all media, including television roles in Doctor Who, Wallander, and Anatomy of a Scandal. Jake Garber is an American make-up artist who has worked on over 140 movies and television shows, including the much-loved Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Walking Dead, Hellboy, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. His incredible career has led him to travel the world, netted him an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup, and given him a wealth of stories which he shares with us today. Mark Jenkin is a Cornish director, editor, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer known for writing and directing the film Bait which had been brewing in his mind for the best part of twenty years. Beautifully shot on black and white 16mm film, Bait tackles the struggles of the fishing industry in Cornwall and the knock-on effects of modern tourism for the people who live there. The film earned him a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. He is currently in post production for his latest feature, Enys Men. In this episode we discuss his breakthrough feature ‘Bait’, his creative process, and how the film changed the trajectory of his career, his future ambitions, the importance of knowing when to say no to a project and his taste in movies.

After studying Film, TV and Theatre at York St John University, Maggie Kruger started her career making the tea at theatrical agency RKM, eventually moving up to become a junior agent and establishing the agency’s commercial division. She moved on to a different agency in 2004 to work in the voiceover department, finally starting Babble with Sarah in 2007.
