Iga Swiatek is the favourite for Roland Garros, there's no question about it. It looks like even in her worst, she is just too good for the entire field. Ons Jabeur went on a great winning streak of her own, winning the title in Madrid and reaching the final in Rome the week after, but ran out of steam against the World No.1, raising the actual main question surrounding Swiatek: who will beat her and when? It would be a devastating loss if she doesn't win the French Open in Roland Garros, but she won't win forever (although the likelihood of her next loss being greater in the grass season.) And what to say of Novak Djokovic? Absent for most tournaments of the year, came back rusty and losing matches, getting bageled in his hometown, losing to the player who is the most taunted to become the greatest of his generation, Carlos Alcaraz, in a titanic match, only to come back to Rome and win his 38th Masters 1000 title, picking up his 1000th win on the way. Who will stop Djokovic? Is Nadal healthy enough? Is Alcaraz ready to win a Grand Slam? Is Tsitsipas going to find a way to exorcise his demons? In this episode, we go back to some overall thoughts on the last hard court tournament before we finally embark into the clay court season -- which we've been waiting for a long time now! Iga Swiatek got to extreme new heights, not only winning the Sunshine Double with the Miami Open title, but also reaching the World No. 1 ranking, completing a sweep of all WTA 1000 events of the season so far, and extending her winning streak to 17. And clay is her favourite surface, so it's now quite hard to imagine what could stop her now. On the men's side, Carlos Alcaraz keeps showing everyone that he's been worth the hype. We can always expect him to deliver, not only good tennis, but also good and consistent wins. At 18 years old, he is the youngest Miami Open champion ever, and 3rd youngest Masters 1000 champion overall. With th e clay season coming up, are we already considering him a Roland Garros contender? Never are we ever prepared for a player's retirement. But literally nobody could have prepared for Ashleigh Barty's retirement. The World No. 1 was arguably the most dominant female player since Serena Williams, staying at the top of the game for 120 weeks and winning Wimbledon, Roland Garros, and, her last tournament as it turned out, the Australian Open in 2022. What could we say, all the exciting rivalries that could be, are no more, including more of Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka matchups.
