Milio & Nuno Dos Santos - Surge (snippet)
2026/10/02
Bandcamp: https://nunodossantos.bandcamp.com/album/drift
Have you seen Enter the Void? If you have, you just found the alternative soundtrack to that wonderful trippy movie. If you haven't, you are in for a treat. Or two, if you dig this new EP by Dutch producers Milio and Nuno Dos Santos.
Their Surge EP is an outer body experience in four parts. Made after subsequent visits to both their studios, where creativity was flowing freely and in all directions. The title track submerges you under water, where ominous radar sounds are accompanied by an off-beat rhythm. A solid kick never emerges but there is tension for the full five minutes. Human Space Machine decided to add a four to the floor kick drum in his remix, while maintaining the mystery of the original. Lovely and effective.
Drift is proper dancefloor fodder, with its ninetees acid stabs and dreamy basslines; while closer Ekster might get the highest points when it comes to club potential. Proper machine funk with a punchy hook and a delightful break. If you like your club music a bit trippy, you cannot afford to miss out on this utterly successful Dutch collaboration.

pi-c - Vorlot (snippet)
2026/09/25
Bandcamp: pi-c.bandcamp.com/album/vorlot
This new adventurous SoHaSo debut Ep by Utrecht based talent pi-c, features tablas alongside delightful trip hop-like beats and pitch-bending keys. This is head music first and foremost. The dancefloor comes second. That said, tracks like Vorlot and Solros do have a particular after midnight-vibe. You can almost smell the smoke machine. Otok and closer Mono are more downbeat affairs, where Indian percussion and melancholic jazz infusions take centre stage. Pi-c revealed that he draws inspiration from Roni Horn's Nordic installation art and Marina Abramovic's relentless performances. His colourful debut certainly paints a vivid picture.

Far Out Radio Systems - Binary
2026/09/18
Bandcamp: https://faroutradiosystems.bandcamp.com/album/i-see-you-as-you-were
After a quiet two years, I'm putting music back out into the world. I stepped back to give more to my other passion, biodiversity research, and that work often took me far from the studio, but it never took the music with it. "I See You As You Were" is a small digital only EP released with Nuno: a handful of tracks made throughout the +10 years I have had the honour to release music on Something Happening Somewhere, out not as a teaser of what is about to come, but as a way of saying I'm still here. The cover is a photo I took myself in the rainforests of the Philippines, a place I keep finding my way back to. Think of it less as a preview and more as a warm nod to the tracks that got me here. Something new is on its way, and this felt like the right way to say I'm glad to be back.

M.R.E. - Plausible Placebo
2026/06/12
Bandcamp: https://sohaso.bandcamp.com/album/plausible-placebo
SoHaSo is shaking up the bass bins with local talent M.R.E., who combines fluid electro-funk with subtle melancholy and beautiful melodies. M.R.E. is the alter ego of Utrecht-based producer https://soundcloud.com/michieleskes, who has gained some recognition in the Dutch underground scene as a radio host. He only started producing a few years ago. Following singles on Deeper State and Fluid Electronics, Plausible Placebo marks his debut on SoHaSo.
Eskes has mastered the art of combining smooth electro beats with elegantly gliding strings, making his machine funk sound far more human and warm. Label boss Nuno dos Santos single-handedly transformed the dreamy “Red Breast Robins” into a wonderfully four-to-the-floor club track that lands somewhere between dub techno with melancholic strings. Sweet stuff.
