Episode 77 - Simon Kelly hits 20k runs and the Team of the Season
2025/10/12
We were delighted to welcome a special guest on this season-closer: Simon Kelly. He was the latest league legend to join the exclusive 20,000 runs club. Simon joined us to chat about his remarkable career and took on our quickfire “career in a minute” quiz. It was a full house too, with Cobber, Andrew, Dom and Jacob all back on the mic to look over another action-packed season. We picked out our five standout “clubs of the season” and discussed what made each of their campaigns so impressive. Things got lively when we all named our Team of the Season — each of us choosing our best batters, bowlers, fielders and wicketkeeper to build what might just be the ultimate Huddersfield League XI for 2025. And finally we played tribute to one of the Huddersfield Cricket League's most popular umpires; Barrie Dyson who passed away over the summer. Episode 76 - The 2025 Sykes Cup Review and the Season so far
2025/08/25
After quite the [enforced] break, the podcast is back – though a couple of familiar voices were missing this week, with Cobber on holiday and Dom Finn nursing the after-effects of a the Sykes Cup Final drinking fallout. Jamie, Andrew, and Jacob held the fort, reflecting on the season so far and taking a closer look at one of the best Sykes Cup finals in recent memory. Scholes secured their third Sykes Cup triumph with victory over Honley in a stunning final, but it wasn’t all one-way traffic. We break down the key moments, including Benji Birkhead’s match-winning innings, the chances Honley let slip in a gripping contest and the absolute pigs ear the chap whose job it was to fish balls out of the nearby river made.
Episode 75 - The Swift Teamwear Premiership 2025 Season Preview
2025/05/01
Radio silence for 10 months and BOOM! Two one hour preview pods in two days! We're back with the ying to the previous episode's yang as Jamie, Jacob and Steve previewed the Premiership's new (and old) faces. Each of the twelve teams got their ducks in a row so we ran our eye over each one in an alphabetical linear way. Featured are our takes on whether Moorlands have replaced adequately to keep full steam ahead and make it three titles in three. But Hoylandswaine's stellar signing of all stellar signings might be the difference. Who knows? Keep posted for extra content this season and a chance for you to have your say on the show as we launch the Castle Hill Regular Cricket Phone-In. Live streamed on a regular basis. Please also follow our Facebook and YouTube pages. You can find us easy enough there.
Episode 74: The Titan Championship Preview
2025/04/30
Guess what? We're back, baby! Just like we've never been away. Muchos apologiesos, hombres. Life took an unexpected turn and derailed this for a bit. Anyway, without further ado, and the season having already started, we thought we'd split out big season preview into two bite-sized episodes. This one, we dissect the ever-competitive Titan Championship 2025 season. So, who better to join Jamie and Andrew to the show than Martin Sykes of Shelley CC, a man that's experienced this division a lot in recent season and is in his 12th season at the club. Four new teams came up and went down from their perches last year so we cast our eyes on them, plus the other eight teams all competing for a shot at the Premiership. We also extended our preview to have a quick glance into the Conference to see how the three 2XI teams are shaping up amonst the first teams. Enjoy! and look out for our Premiership preview after this too!
Episode: 73 - Sykes Cup Preview (Skelmanthorpe)
2024/08/05
In our latest episode, we bring you a comprehensive preview of the upcoming Sykes Cup final! We're excited to welcome special guests from one of the finalists, Skelmanthorpe. Joining us are George Sommerville, the team's wicketkeeper, and Allan Greenwood, the captain, to discuss their chances in the showpiece final this Sunday. George also shares exciting news about his new venture, Sixers, which includes a brand new indoor net facility aimed at growing his coaching company. He even takes on our career quiz in one minute feature! Additionally, we cover the latest action in the top three divisions as the season reaches its climax, with title and relegation spots still up for grabs.
Episode: 72 - Dom Finn (Broad Oak)
2024/06/30
We’re back for another Huddersfield Cricket League takedown and another brilliant guest was in tow. Dom Finn joined us from Broad Oak CC. One of the Premiership’s most consistent performers with the bat, although in a dry, self-effacing style he admitted he’s looking forward to the season starting, from his personal perspective! Dom took us on his career retrospective, starting at Lightcliffe and forged in an Elland team, studded with quality. A short hiatus later, he spent the last decade at Broad Oak, being a losing T20 and Sykes Cup finalist before achieving a major goal in life as a Sykes Cup winner in 2023. Dom was in great form as he took on our Career Quiz In One Minute, so see how he gets on (big thanks to Dom’s brother Alastair Finn and Oak skipper Dan Rushworth for some of the Q’s!). We loved Dom a lot so you’ll no doubt see him pop up with us more regularly as well as his popular Friday Night Rain Card Forecast which you can find on Dom’s Insta / FB accounts. There were loads to discuss in this bumper episode. Have Moorlands turned a corner? Is the format of the T20 Trophy right or does it need further modification? And if Steve Whitwam is the Don Corleone of our podcast, what does that make Jacob? Finally, we heard from the lovely Lauren Dalby who helped put on an all day cricket marathon for young cricketer Fred at Mirfield CC. Fred has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia so a fundraiser took place on 21st June in aid of his family. Lauren filled us in with how the day went and where you can continue to donate. Follow the link below to add to Fred’s fundraiser and help a young boy’s family cope with such a shocking condition. Donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/24hour-cricket-marathon-for-fred
Episode: 71 - Matty Butters (Marsden) plus the Prediction Game
2024/05/10
In this week's episode, we were back with a bang as we welcomed our co-host Jacob Mulhall from his Aussie adventures! We also had a special treat lined up as we sat down with one of the best wicket keepers to grace the Huddersfield Cricket league, Matty Butters from Marsden Cricket Club. Matty shared insights from his remarkable 20-year journey at local cricket’s outpost at Marsden along with the handful of years he spent at Broad Oak. Even his solo season over at Elland was covered with some great stories from his experiences. Matty was also put through his paces in the Career One Minute Quiz, so see how he fared! It was a jam-packed show as we dived into a preview of the Championship and Conference with two current captains Chris Dennison (Armitage Bridge) and Beau McGuinness (Mirfield) sharing their thoughts. We also snuck a peek back at the opening fixtures in the league and cup from last weekend. Want more? We unveiled Soothsayer Simon's Season Prophecy game, where you can make your predictions for the 2024 season! Play along using the link below, and we'll revisit the picks in September to see who's got the gift of foresight!
