Description
This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you at the heart of mystery, murder, and mayhem. Some episodes will be my own stories, others will be classics that helped shape the mystery genre we know today. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. My piano player, Jack, and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. This is a podcast for people who love storytelling, puzzles, and the thrill that comes from solving the mystery.

Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.
I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. In the world’s most dangerous working environments it can seem like everything is out to kill you. The equipment you use. The materials you work with. The very air you breathe. Stored energy is a coiled viper waiting for the right moment to lash out. Owners, manufacturers, contractors, and beyond have developed safety protocols to combat STCKY, that is, Stuff That Can Kill You. Gravity, Motion, Mechanical, Electrical, Pressure, Sound, Radiation, Biological, Chemical, Temperature. This season is all about the means of murder as authors put our STCKY detective skills to the test. This is Season 9, Stuff That Can Kill You.
This is Episode 20, where all kinds of different things are our STCKY means of death. This is Minute Mysteries by H.A. Ripley
Memberships!
The Case of the Vanishing Budget.
A small, plucky podcast called Mysteries to Die For awoke one morning to find its resources mysteriously drained. The lights flickered. The software groaned. The authors—real, living humans—were spotted wandering the halls whispering, “We… need… co-ax cables…”
Jack and TG searched for clues. Was it sabotage? A ghost? A raccoon with a grudge?
No. The culprit was far more chilling.
Ads. Ads were creeping toward the show like a slow moving fog, threatening to interrupt every dramatic pause with a cheerful voice saying, “Have YOU tried our new probiotic toothpaste?”
To stop this horror, the hosts devised a plan—three tiers of membership, each more heroic than the last.
• The Free Tier aka The Grave Digger’s Society: For listeners who love the show but also love keeping their wallets sealed tighter than a mummy’s tomb.
• The Cadaver Collective: For those willing to part with a few dollars to keep the mysteries flowing and the authors funded.
• The Preservationist Society: For the brave souls who want to say, “Yes, I support whodunnit storytelling across all genres,” with the confidence of a detective revealing the killer in the big reveal.
And for those who fear commitment? A tip jar—where you can drop a coin and leave a pun so terrible it becomes its own unsolved crime.
The solution to the mystery was simple: Memberships save the show. They keep the power on, the software humming, and the ads banished to whatever dark dimension they came from.
The final clue? The links—hidden in plain sight—waiting in the show notes and at M2D4podcast.com.
Will you solve the mystery… or become part of it?
ABOUT H.A. Ripley
Harold Austin “Rip” Ripley (1896–1974) was a newspaper columnist for the Chicago Tribune who wrote a daily column called "Minute Mysteries" featuring Professor Fordney. The series found its way into more than 100 newspapers. In 1932, he released a book of his Detectograms. Ripley also created Photo Crime for Look magazine, inviting readers to solve cases from photographic clues. He was a recovering alcoholic and later in life, founded Guest House treatment centers and helped thousands of alcoholic priests. Austin Ripley slowly began to lose his eyesight and went completely blind two years before his death. He died at home in his cabin he built on Tainter Lake on April 11, 1974.

Have You Seen Him is suspense thriller. David is a juvenile public defender whose bad day at work has become unimaginable. Flipping through junk mail, he notices the face on a have-you-seen-me flyer. Bottom line: Have You Seen Him is for you if you like character-driven, fast-moving suspense

It’s another conundrum and Henri suspects everyone. Let’s see if we can help him bring this case to a close and get him that macchiato he’s been Jonesing for. Here’s Henri’s “do not trust” list, in the order we met them:
• Mayor Tom Vaughn, Politian, ‘nuff said
• Assistant Chief Rorschach, the man uses spit to fix his hair
• Janet from IT, crushing on the ink stain
• Judith the Comptroller, the money lady
• John Smith, almost forgot him
Memberships
Alright, before we dive back into the Henri’s craziness, we gotta talk memberships. We’ve got three tiers now — the Grave Digger’s Union, which is free because apparently we’re philanthropists… or bad at business.
Then there’s the Cadaver Collective — four bucks a month. That’s literally the price of a gas station coffee that tastes like sadness and burnt hopes.
And if you’re feeling fancy, we’ve got the Preservationist Society at eight bucks. That’s the tier for people who want to say, ‘Yes, I support delusion storytellers who got their hands on a pair of microphone.
Your membership keeps our real human authors fed, our software from becoming self aware, and the ads from clawing their way into the show.
If you’re not ready for commitment, you can still drop us a tip and leave a pun so bad it legally counts as a haunting. It's all on our website www.m2d4podcast.com
Anthology
Hey, before we answer the real question bothering Henri … who ruined Maxine’s dye job with chlorine?— quick save the date. Our Season 9 companion anthology drops this October 13. Yes, an actual book. Words. Pages. Deliberation.
So mark your calendars, carve it into a pumpkin, tattoo it on your soul — October 13. Season 9 anthology – Stuff That Can Kill You.

TT103: Dying with a Secret by Tj O'Connor
2026/09/21
Dying with a Secret is paranormal cozy mystery. Oliver “Tuck” Tucker is a detective. Before his death, he was the cop kind; after death, he’s the pro-bono PI kind of investigator. When an ordinary day at the office for his wife turns into Men in Black meets A Night at the Museum, normal flies out the window. Things aren’t helped along by Tuck’s great-times-four grandmother, Sally, who brings secrets of her own into the quagmire.
Bottom line: Dying with a Secret is for you if you like fast-paced, light-hearted adventures with an aura of the extraordinary.
The reason to pick up and stay with this series is the premise. Tuck is dead, but not gone, and all the instincts of the police detective came back with him. The world O’Connor has built is simply fun with the humorous life-and-death gags and snarky comments that had me chuckling page after page.
O’Connor has brought his mastery of thriller pacing to the cozy genre. With DYING WITH A SECRET, I found it to be more of an adventure than a mystery—though there certainly is a body that kicks it all off—because the story shifts from a whodunnit to a hunt and that shift drives the pacing.
Tuck is a likable hero both because he’s competent and funny but also because he doesn’t lament being dead. Like all great detectives, he has his “team” who act as his liaison to the living world and also his subject matter experts. His wife Angela and partner Bear provide balance to Tuck’s world and the story.
Dying with a Secret is a complex story and as I’ve thought about how the ending I find I have a few questions. I’m sure I’ll continue to think about the story for days to come and get there.
Overall, I enjoyed Tuck’s latest adventure. This is book 4 of the series, I have read books 1 and 4. I do recommend reading Book 1—Tuck’s origin story—for an introduction to the world, characters, and what Tuck can and cannot do.

Today’s featured release is Those Who Shall Die by Michael Bradley
Those Who Shall Die is a suspense. The world of thriller writing can be a lonely existence, where action happens only in the imagination. Five established thriller writers came together and formed The Society of Fibbers, a place to support, cross market, and connect with a shared audience. Success has been hard earned. Then one of their own dies and a token is found pointing back to the Fibbers. Forewarned is forearmed … if you know who the enemy is.
Bottom line: Those Who Shall Die is for you if you like the slow burn of a suspense where anyone could be the next.

TT101: Round Up the Unusual Suspects
2026/08/24
Round Up the Unusual Suspects by Elizabeth Crowens is historical cozy. B. Norman Investigations is back at Warner Brothers Studio at the behest of Jack Warner himself. A stage hand was been found murdered on one of the set and Babs Norman and Guy Brandt are hired to not only find the killer but make sure there isn’t a second body in the wings. But the PIs have more than just murder on their minds—there’s Babs’s Japanese gardener she’s hiding from authorities, Guy’s draft number being called, Guy’s maybe new boyfriend, Babs’s fanatic suitor, and Hollywood being Hollywood as WWII rages.
Bottom line: Round Up the Unusual Suspects is for you if you like Casablanca and WWII era American stories told from a Cozy perspective
The brightest light in this story is the world Crowens created. It’s 1942 in Burbank, California. Warner Brothers Studio, led by Jack Warner, is pushing forward on projects as the world changes. WWII is underway. Pearl Harbor has happened, and now Japanese emigrants and descendants are under orders to turn themselves in to internment camps. Emigrants from across Europe have sought refuge in North America including the U.S. The draft is happening and able bodied young men from across the country are called to report for duty.
Within all of the uncertainty and anxiety of the time, Crowens placed a light-hearted adventure / mystery that highlights where people found relief—in other people. The cast of ROUND UP THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS is large and draws in characters you already know like Humphrey Bogart, Dashiell Hammett, Errol Flynn, and Ingrid Bergman. For fans of Casablanca, ROUND UP THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS is a behind-the-scene tour of the celebrated film and its stars.
There is a lot packed in between the covers. There are many characters and, aside from the famous ones, I did have some trouble keeping everyone straight. While mystery is an element, ROUND UP THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS is more dominantly an Americana story using mystery as the backdrop for seeing who we were then.
ROUND UP THE UNUSUAL SUSPECTS is the 3rd book in the Babs Norman Golden Age of Hollywood Mystery Series. I read book 1 but not 2. The storyline stands on it’s own and doesn’t require reading the first books. However, Book 1 HOUNDS OF THE HOLLYWOOD BASKERVILLES, where dog napping is the crime to be solved, is just plain fun.
The Round Up the Unusual Suspects was released from Level Best Books and is promoted by Partners In Crime Tours and is available from online retailers. Check out PICT for links to all.

Jason Mercer’s weekend away with his high school buddies has turned deadly. He thinks he knows who killed Kevin Boeser and why, but let’s help him gut check before his silk pajamas are traded in for prison orange. Here are the suspects in the order we met them:
Jason Mercer, party organizerJen Jenkins, Kevin’s secret baby mamaDavid Shizka, his wife’s hit-and-run driverAngela Leeman, Kevin’s high school stalkerMichael Greer, the gambler who owes $200 large
Here is what we know …
Kevin Boeser was found dead in the center of camp, suffocated by a blue tarp. His trademark red Doc Martens stuck out of one end. Pulling back the tarp revealed blue lips from suffocation and the coat he’d worn the night before.Jason Mercer slept outside that night in a chair. When he fell asleep, Michael and Angela were in camp, David, Jen, and Kevin were in the woods. When he woke, all the others came out of their tents.Jason saw the suspects interact with Kevin that night. David loaned Kevin his coat and talked about Jen’s kid and his wife’s car accident. Angela kissed Kevin. Michael snubbed Kevin. Jason saw Jen go into the woods but didn’t actually see or hear the conversation.Jen was tense about the weekend with her son’s biological father and counted on Jason to revoke the invite. Kevin confirmed to David that he knew he was the father.David didn’t accidentally make the invitation but felt he couldn’t withdraw it because Kevin knew he was the driver in his wife’s accident. Kevin confirmed that knowledge.Angela blamed Kevin for her hospital stay. Seeing him challenged the progress made through therapy and pharmaceuticals.Michael owed Kevin $200k he didn’t have and expected the man to call the debt due. He figured Kevin arranged the “accidental” invitation for that reason.Jason himself had a motive as he used Kevin to cheat on tests in high school that led to his college entry. If Kevin talked, his mogul status could be pulled out from under him.Jen suspects Jason since he was asleep outside when she returned. No one else has made an accusation.Jen’s van will not start, stranding the now distrusting friends unless they use Kevin’s car.
Which of the Gen Xers ruined Kevin’s weekend?

Alone, neither Lena nor Mercer have what it takes to crack the case. But together, and with our help, we can figure out what happened to Eddie Weller and Dale Curtis. Here’s the suspect list, in the order we met them:
Junior Lattimore, rendering techJohn Reese, plant managerTanya Lowell, accounting clerk and office mateFrank Jackson, rendering foremanDale Curtis, plant foreman
Here are the facts that Lena and Mercer have uncovered:
• Eddie Weller, newly promoted to Operations Reviewer, went into the rendering pit. The pit was activated and Eddie died from a lethal combination of heat, oxygen deprivation, and mechanical grinding.
Eddie was formerly an operating tech and, in his new role, signed off on the maintenance documentation. He knew the paperwork or safety protections he knew was needed to enter the confined space. No one offered an explanation of why Eddie would have entered the pit.Junior Lattimore did not look into the pit before he turned it on. He had no reason to think anyone was in it.A search of Eddie’s desk found evidence of falsified invoices for filters. The invoices were signed by Reese. He added a note to check with DC, interpreted as Dale Curtis.Tanya prepares the invoices for Reese’s signature. She said he directed her to process the invoices for his approval, saying they were a rush job from a new vendor.Reese said he signs the invoices Tanya prepares, implying he did not scrutinize or even read the documents.A torn piece of bank statement found in the trash in the office Eddie and Tanya shared had a sizable balance but no nameCurtis later heard Eddie in his office talking to someone about stealing, but couldn’t see who as the door was closed.Mercer recognized Steam Line #4 was tampered with. The line then failed catastrophically killing Dale Curtis. He was found with a pipe wrench in the vicinity.A drawing of the plant found in Eddie’s apartment also highlighted Steam Line #4 as out of compliance on maintenance inspection.Lena and Mercer speculate the person or persons behind the “accidents” had to have an understanding of the plant to orchestrate both deaths.Tanya had knowledge and access to the invoice, but does not have knowledge of the plant. Tanya and Eddie shared an office and were friends. Eddie spent time with her son.Junior had knowledge of the rendering area, but did not have access to accounting. Junior lost out on the promotion to Eddie and was bitter.Junior had no apparent problem with Dale Curtis.Jackson had knowledge of the rendering area. Recently separated, he and Tanya were dating. He often when to her office, and even helped straighten Tanya’s desk for her. He was there in the office when Eddie died.Reese claims his knowledge of the plant isn’t detailed. He signed off on plant expenditures.
Whose greed was paid for with the lives of Eddie Weller and Dale Curtis?

Today’s author, Chuck Brownman, is certainly racking up the body count. First Alastair Stubbins and Quentin Ballinger are gassed, then Sergei Ivanov gets singed. Here is a list of everything with a heartbeat in the house…
• Alastair Stubbins, a victim, but also an inventor who controlled the world from his little corner. He liked making people dance to his tune. He had a great vision for QN-7 but needed a financial partner to make it reality.
• Quentin Ballinger, a victim, the chosen financial partner but a man who had money issues. Living in Monaco didn’t stop his company from being on the brink of bankruptcy. He had a reputation for building cheaply.
• Sergei Ivanov, an almost victim, but a man who wouldn’t accept coming in second. He had a reputation for top quality.
• Mrs. Ashley Stubbins, a trophy wife with a pre-nup who loved her hubby. Really, she did.
• Regan Stubbins, the mechanical engineering daughter and heir apparent who didn’t like the deal her father was rigging.
• Paul Stubbins, the artist in residence who didn’t like anything about his father except his money
Now that we have the heartbeats straight…here’s a summary of what we know.
• Quentin Ballinger and Sergei Ivanov were staying at the Stubbins’ estate, one of them would close on a deal with Alastair Stubbins to complete the design and produce the QN-7.
• The QN-7 was outfitted with next generation artificial intelligence that would let it learn to the point of making its own decisions. It was a top-secret operation. Only two key fobs existed. One Stubbins had and the other he gave to his wife.
• Security information showed the door to the garage opened at eleven fifty at night. This is assumed to be Stubbins and Ballinger.
• Stubbins and Ballinger died of carbon dioxide poisoning that came from the QN-7. There are signs of some sort of struggle, but there was no damage to either body and both were found next to the QN-7. The times of death was pinned between eleven pm and 2 am.
• Security information showed the door to the garage opened again at twelve forty-seven. This is assumed to be the killer.
• All the doors were closed – man doors and garage doors. There is no explanation for why the two able-bodied men didn’t open a door and walk out.
• Sergei Ivanov reports being in his bedroom all night. This was neither confirmed nor denied.
• Ashley Stebbins was in her bedroom all night. This was neither confirmed nor denied.
• Paul Stebbins was alone in his room in the carriage house all night. This was confirmed only by Regan.
• Regan Stebbins was alone in her room in the carriage house all night. Only Paul confirmed this.

Quirky and fun
What a blast! It’s like listening to an old-time radio show, with scene-setting music playing in the background while the actual author reads chapters...
