As a busy mom of three, Danielle knows the importance of finding time to herself. In this episode of the Grounded in Simplicity podcast, she discussed with Bonnie about the book The Four Tendencies.  From the conversation, there are four personality types: Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, and Rebel. Each personality type has its own strengths and weaknesses. For example, Upholders are great at following rules and meeting deadlines, but they may have a hard time relaxing or taking breaks. Questioners are good at challenging the status quo and thinking critically, but they may have a hard time making decisions. Obligers are good at meeting other people's expectations, but they may have a hard time meeting their own. Rebels are good at thinking outside the box and taking risks, but they may have a hard time following rules or routines.  Which personality type are you? Today's episode is something that all people who thinks of starting to homestead can relate. This is a relevant topic that most of us can get tips and tricks. As how Danielle mentioned, anybody can start homesteading because homesteading is more of a lifestyle choice than it is. It's kind of more like a lifestyle or like a mental attitude more than anything else.  If we think about it, homesteading, in large part is all about food. We are producing food, preserving food. It's one of our core needs. There's a lot of things that we think we need that are really just things that we could actually survive without. But if you don't have food and water, you literally cannot survive. You'd need to know how to prepare that food. And if it comes to water, you didn't know how to purify that water, how to store that water. If you are someone who struggles with boiling water, then that's a great place to start. And just like gardening, if you think just because you killed a few plants that you can't garden, you don't know how to garden, you'll never be able to garden, anything can be taught. Same thing goes for cooking. Anything that you need to start your homesteading journey can be learned. You just have to have the proper mindset. For today's episode, Bonnie and Danielle discussed about taking chances and getting outside of our comfort zones. As an entrepreneur, we are a little bit up, we're wired a little bit differently than people who don't have that mindset. Partially because as an entrepreneur we tried to take on the world instead of just delegating tasks. There's a lot of homesteaders that hold themselves back because they're not willing or they're too afraid to take a leap that would put them in an uncomfortable position. They maybe don't want to move away from family or away from the area they're living in. Maybe they're too scared to get started because they don't think they have all the resources that they need. Regardless of what scale we're talking about, when it comes to taking chances, anything that we try is a chance. A good example is when you go and get a degree from college and you're taking the chance that you'll actually be able to get a job with that degree or that there'll be a need for that for your skill set. A lot of times with homesteading, in general, we are taking on something that is outside of the status quo, outside of the norm. And we're going to get a lot of pushback, it's going to require us to learn skills we've never had to learn before, do things we probably didn't grow up doing. We have to really just acknowledge that those are bold actions, and that we are capable of doing those things even when it seems scary. For today's episode, Bonnie and Danielle talked about Silencing Your Inner Critic. There are times that stress are all over the wrong places all the time and that controls our fight or flight response. It is where our brain will usually go to when we have anxiety and get overwhelmed and these negative thought processes continue. Putting it down on a piece of paper and being able to physically look at it actually helps. It changes how the thought process back to that frontal lobe and causes us to look at it a lot more rationally with the logical part of our brain. Because only then we can really dissect it. Writing it down helps us to see that it's not as big and scary as our brains led us to believe. It's not something we need to run away from, we can tackle this, we can deal with this. Today's episode is really a good conversation. We discussed how we can overcome our setbacks. If we're talking about the setback itself, there's a lot of times that there are things that are outside of our control. Whether it be a health issue, or the economy or a job loss. And so a lot of times we just have to go, "Okay. This is this is my reality right now. This is the circumstance. Now, what do I do about it?" You can have a few people that you can feel comfortable sharing with that aren't gonna judge you for it. That's the hardest thing. That's probably why we don't usually vent and internalized so much is because we've been told by so many different people that the way we feel is wrong. And you have no right to complain or if it is a concern to you, you have a right to have that concern. Other people aren't going to think that your problem is as big as their problems. But if it is a big problem to you, then it is a big problem you can vent out. Also, you can just have a notebook that you're just writing out all of your thoughts. Because we've internalized stuff for so long that we kind of need something that's going to draw that out for us. But the important thing is to write out everything you're thinking without any negative judgment towards yourself. To know the steps in detail, we suggest you listen to the whole podcast episode. Today is another special episode of the Grounded in Simplicity Podcast. We are wrapping up by giving you Things You Can Do to Take Action and Start Working on your Homesteading Dream. To start, you kind of have to learn to let go of those things and only keep things that you really love or really need. We should only have the things that bring us joy, which are the things that you need especially leading this kind of lifestyle. But you can definitely learn to minimize and simplify. Learning to let go of the consumers mindset can be very, very hard. But as you know, homesteaders are people who want to learn to homestead. We should be producing things and producers, instead of so much consumers. The best way to do this is to turn their phones off, or at least put them in another room while you go do something else. We don't need our phones all the time and make yourself hard to get ahold to get things done and be more productive, but in all honesty, it helps you be less of a consumer and gets you away from the consumer mindset because when we're constantly on our phones. We're usually scrolling on Social Media, or some other thing and then we end up with a lot of advertisements that are trying to get us to buy the things we don't need. You can use this season of your life wherever you're at as a learning season. And remember everything is just a season, everything changes. People change all the time. Situations change all the time. Everything is constantly changing. So you have to learn how to use the seasons that you're in to make your dreams move forward without having to be on this big cloud of land or have a big garden or whatever it is that you dream.
