Today we are going to talk about fogging and bombing for cockroaches, bedbugs and fleas. And if it works, because is, as extermely isn’t burning, you notice like, because you take the phones that are at our company, a lot like myself will will get people on the phone. And they’ll ask us if we bomb or fog for bedbugs or for fleas or cockroaches. Or, or they’ll tell us that they have been bombing, fogging, you know, trying to get rid of their their own problems. So today, we’re just gonna talk about, you know, the pros and cons to to doing it, you know, to using those. Those foggers and those bomb, you know, those bombs? And in our experience, they were what have you found burned? I know, I know, you’ve talked to a lot of our customers, you know, they call up and they tell us that they’ve been they’ve been trying different things that they’ve gotten from like, you know, some of the big box hardware stores or some someplace local and what are you? What’s your experience with that? Well, first of all, most persons don’t even think that they can tackle it on their own. But you know, the local hardware stores, and we talk about these national hardware stores, they put this stuff right soon as you walk in. So when you walk into these places, for light bulbs or paint, or you’re there for something completely different, you see, you know, bedbug bottles, gallons of bottles and flee this and Roach that the foggers and bombs and things of that nature. So, you know, you know you’re having that problem, and you plan on calling someone to get rid of it. But you say, Hey, let me just try this out. I mean, it might save me I mean, you know, the fogger box costs 12 bucks, you know, and you know, you got roaches running around and you say well, let me at least try it to see if it works. And so it’s nothing wrong with that, you know, these hot shots in these D coms and all these other companies. But the problem is, is that it isn’t really not a serious problem with the customer trying it. But the problem is, is that, you know, millions of customers are trying this stuff, and it just don’t work. And the companies are making billions of dollars off of it. Because the person says, let me just give it a shot. What’s 12 bucks was 1999 You know what I mean? Yeah, oh, uh, the majority of time, it doesn’t work. In a minute, I’ll give a personal experience that I had with bedbugs at a previous property that I used to live it but um, I found that it doesn’t work. This is before I got into pest control this stuff, just don’t have the strength. And you actually commented on that when I was living at my previous household where we got bedbugs. Um, some years back when you read the packaging, on what we were trying to use, it was a spray bottle. You remember that? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you read the you read the packaging on it. And you you found that certain chemicals that this these products were using just wasn’t strong enough? Yeah. And here’s the thing. And this is really important for those who buy, he’s going to do a whole separate podcast on buying over the counter products. Over the counter pest control products is like over the counter drugs. It’s like aspirin. So if I got a broken arm, right, and I mean it is killing me. Aspirin just ain’t gonna get it done. You know, if I, if I got any kind of serious, acute, you know, extreme pain. Excedrin is just not gonna get it done. I need, you know, a prescription. Something that I cannot get just off the shelf at your local Rite Aid or CVS, right. It’s a lot the same for pet products. There’s just certain products that really work that you cannot buy off the shelf, because you do not have the license or the expertise to use it. It’s the same thing, you know, it’s the same thing. So, that’s the difference.

Today, we’re going to talk about ants. Mostly because the time of year it is the day is like the beginning of March. So as far as ants are concerned, a lot of pest control companies will, you know, their calls will start to go up because people started to see ants. In fact, like, just last week, we have some friends in a business. And they’ve been talking about getting calls for ants already. You know, normally we associate ants with something that happens in the spring or the summer. But as early as the late winter, we can have some some answers. And so that’s what today’s podcast is going to be about is just some quick things that we have come across, you know, over time in the industry, about how you can control ants in your home. And then ultimately, what the what the ultimate solution will probably be if you have an ant problem. Okay, so we’re actually going to put up a slide on this, how to control ants in your home. The first thing the first, the first thing you want to do, you know is to keep your house clean. Because ants eat sugar, protein, and just about anything else that they can find. So I noticed it’s easier said than done. Especially if you’re dealing with this guy down here at the bottom right hand part of the screen. If you have little kids, then they’re eating cookies. They’re leaving crumbs everywhere. And the answer just going to attack that stuff. And I’m not sure if you can see on this, this donut slab, but it’s just full of ants. And you you’ve seen this before, you know, you drop one thing. And the answers come, they come out in numbers. And this time a year, they’ll be the most aggressive because they’re looking to you know, those colonies are looking to thrive and, and reproduce and go to work, you know, over over the season. So sometimes when we go out to places, you know, we find that people will have you know, little kids, you know, whether it’s daycare center or inside of a house, and the ants will be coming up for food. So you do the best you can to just keep everything clean. The ants won’t have anything to come come come looking for. We think about that. Bernie got it. Yeah, yeah, I’m definitely clean house. One of the things that you might not realize, and this is happened to me personally, um, is ants got in under my door. Um, because I put a trash bag, I put a trash bag near the door to take it out and went to do other things and came back and I had a trash bag full of ants, ants coming hollow, you know, going on wall and everything. So they can move pretty fast. It can happen pretty quickly. They it is amazing. The sense of smell that they have, they can literally, you know, right through your house come into the house. And you know, one of the things that people say is Well, you know, how are they getting in? Yeah, that’s, that’s, that’s not even a question. You know, they can get in it’s not about you know, your your threshold or your door your window. These bugs can get in Yeah, they are power ceiling thing. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. So, you know, the biggest thing is, is we’re gonna talk about how to prevent ants or really get better control of not getting ants into the house. Um, he talked about the food outside, you know, dropping ice cream on the ground outside the door or anything like that, but it’s also your trash can in the house. So you got a clean house.

What’s up everybody, we back again? How you doing? I’m good, man. All right, man. Well, we’re here to talk again. Do you see our new logo, harpoon pest podcast, we’re very excited. Again, this is all brand new stuff. But uh, this is our second episode. And today we’re going to just talk about, since it’s wintertime, and right now it’s like 20 degrees outside got a nor’easter supposed to be this weekend. But um, we want to talk about mics, because we get a lot of calls in the winter time. On mice, we also want to talk about pest control businesses, what they doing in the wintertime, what should we be going into, when at times is all about when the phone rang, waiting for the phone to ring? You know what I mean? So that’s what we’re gonna talk about. Q, I’m gonna just start it off by saying mice is a serious issue in wintertime. Um, you know, we have a lot of customers that call and get an increase in mice. And let’s face it, these these houses are clean. They’re they’re not dirty houses. They’re, they’re well kept. But there’s a serious issue. Have you noticed that? Yeah, yeah, for sure. Um, it’s just one of them things that happens on just this time of year, especially once the temperatures start to, you know, go down. And in the late fall, going into the, into the winter, whenever you had was freezing temps, it just pushes the mice inside. So it almost doesn’t matter. Like we see a lot of we get a lot of calls and some older neighborhoods. Whether it be part some parts of West Philadelphia lands down some parts of Delaware County, some of these neighborhoods, almost 100 years old, some of the homes a little older, and even some new construction, you know, the winter, the winter time was just brutal on on homes, you know, and then pushes the mice around, right pushes it from one house to the other. So that happened. So that’s that’s one of the that’s one of the reasons you see a big increase. Yeah, a lot of people that’s in Philadelphia, in living in connected homes, they think that they get a single detached home, that problem will go away. Now, granted, it may be better, um, you know, connected homes, they just have real issues with rodents, especially ones that got new drywall in them. If they can just hear those mice running through that red brick. No, they’re connected, red brick. There’s no mortar and a brick and mortar and I ran out because the houses are so old. And then these messages running through these holes of connected home. So no, it’s a pain is a real pain. We do have ways of doing what’s called roading control, you can know is a lie to say especially if you got you know, 20 blocks 20 houses on a square block on one feet on one side of a block. You’d be lying if you say I’m gonna get rid of your mice, because in the wintertime, they’re just running from other connected homes. So but there is ways to get control of mites. The key word is control. So, but you’re right out here in the counties. I live in the counties you live in the counties. We have field mice, you got to field my session, you know, and they’re a little little they look a little different. Thanks so cute. They got the white furry belly on Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So good. But these houses these county houses got problems too. I mean, they come in on the ground. That dirt going in your attic. Big time, you know, so you need they need rotary control to another thing I wanted to say about my situation. You know, you’ll hear customers say I’ve never had this problem in the past, and that they’re telling the truth. One of the things that we’ve noticed is there’s a lot of new construction going on. Yes. And when these these bulldozers digging up this ground, they are they are rustling

Welcome back everybody to episode four of the Harpoon Pest Control podcast. Glad to be here this week, we got a couple friend invites from this podcast, which is always nice. And we look forward to work with a lot of people in the future on this podcast. As we said before, we got some future plans with that. But this week, we’re going to talk about termites. So the reason why we’re talking about termites right now is because we are about one month away from termite season. Termite season starts about in this in the state of PA starts around March. So it’s a good time to talk about termites, how you can prevent termites is what we’re talking about. Um, this is a big season, a money making season for realtors sellers, because people that sell homes, buyers normally want termite inspections, and termite treatments. And this is the time where Realtors really sell houses the spring, summer time. So termite is one of the things that we should really talk about right now. And how you can prevent them. If you’re a homeowner quits, you want to get that you want to get that started force. Yeah, so, you know, like he was saying, um, this time of year is normally when we get a lot of requests for for homeowners or relatives to do termite inspections and stuff like that. And I know in our office, just as week, we got a few requests we went out. And even in a month of February, you know, we found active termites. So it’s definitely a situation where you can have a need for a termite service just about any time of the year. Because if termites have a wood source or food source to eat on, they’ll just, they’ll just do it, they’ll just kind of constantly do it. So today, we’re going to just briefly talk about some things that you can do to prevent termites. And you know, if you have a new home, or if you have a home that you’ve been living in for a long time already, there are some things that you can actually do to protect your home for termites. And that’s, that’s what that’s what we’re going to talk about in this. Yeah. So the first thing that we’re going to talk about is water. What attracts termites, so termites is attracted to water and is not regular raindrop water, we’re talking about heavy amounts of money moisture around your home, how does that happen? Now, you may have a concrete surrounding on the side of your house, maybe all around your house, you may have grass or whatever, that does not matter. They are subterranean, they travel underground and if water is getting through your concrete against your house, or water is pouring into your soil, it can be a situation where termites you know, come towards your home and it attracts them. So the number one thing number one thing you can do to prevent termites one of the things is have good gutters and good downspouts if you have a flat roof, the water got to go somewhere, right? So it comes down the downspout and then the city a lot of it goes into the sewer pipe was strengthened to the storm drains of the city. However, a lot of them pipes are starting to go bad and you’ll see a lot of people just downspout running against the house running on top of the concrete or it runs to the ground and it just goes into nowhere and it just goes through the concrete. But when that happens, that’s what causes the risk of termites because a lot of the basements have within or 100% of the basement have wooden floor joists. So it would be good to walk around your home and see okay, where’s my downspout going? Does it come down and go into a sewer line actually goes into the sewer or does it come down and have an elbow one and bends and points away from the house? Or does it just come straight down and just hit the ground? Alright, the last one is what you don’t want. The last one is what you don’t want water attracts termites.

What’s up, everybody, we’re back again. It’s the week before March and we are getting into the termite season, we’re getting into the season of bugs where, basically I’m able to pay some bills soon. But uh, we’re looking forward to springtime, you can see the time are really changing. Again, this week we’re going to talk about we’re still going to talk about termites. And why do they swarm? Why did you see these little ants with wings crowding around your window. And as it gets a little warmer, as Quincy is going to talk about some, we’re going to talk about these ads that you may see, you may see him that you might not even know you have them, but you may see them probably get a little warmer, high 50s. Low 60s, Quincy, you can start us off with that brother. Yeah, so and I should introduce you first. Hey, Quincy now. Yeah, so man, it’s so every, every everyone knows that, especially in a pest industry, or if you’ve owned a home for a long time you’ve ever experienced, like Bernie said, it’s its wings, that’s the first thing people say, when they see swarmers. They say, Oh, it looks like ants with wings. And that’s something that, you know, has to be determined whether it’s actually an or if it’s a termite. But around this time of year, that’s why we chose to do this podcast is because around this time of year, especially going into March, April, people call most pest control companies, their phones will start ringing off the hook because they have people calling in about termite swarmers are or what appears to be Ansible wings. And just to give an idea of what it looks like. This is a basically what it is why did they swarm why this time of year is the swarms are happening, like once once a year, and is normally in the spring, it could happen again later on in the season. But this is what people see, typically, is they look like ants with wings. And this is this is the call we’ll get you know people say though I have these ants are flying around like Verner said around the window around a doorway. But why does this happen? That’s that’s, that’s like the most important thing. So we’re gonna establish why this happens in this episode, and then some other episodes we have, we can go further into what happens with turn my stuff. So the first reason why this happens, because as was mentioned earlier, the weather gets gets warm, it starts to get warm, you have a couple consistent days of 50 degrees, 60 degrees. And there’s different things involved barometric pressure and all that stuff that causes these termite swarms. That kind of happen, and normally happens like in the afternoon, or sometimes in the early evening. And the number two reason, really, which is one that should alert a home owner is that if they have a swarm, it’s termite swarm, when the original colony has reached maturity has reached capacity. So a lot of times termite colonies will swarm once you have about maybe three to five years old termite colony that would cause them to to do that to swarm their whole purpose is to get out to the light and go out into the grass and reproduce and make more colony. So the reason why I don’t know why they’re attracted to light, but that’s typically what happens. So there are going to be around a window or doorway. Sometimes it’ll happen outside your house, you know, in the the late evening, still in the daylight hours late evening. And number three basically had a purpose of swarmers is to create new columns. That’s to create new columns, which can never be a good thing. If you own a home, right. And you hit you see a termite swarm. So the next slide presentation or the next slide, rather, I’ll live burning it break this down, but it is what it means for you as a home owner. So today, the question is, should I spray for bugs in the fall, you know, the weather gets a little cooler, it gets a little bit more damp. And it appears that there’s less, you know, insect activity. And so a lot of people wonder, you know, whether or not they should even be bothered, or you know, should bother spraying? Well, yes, you definitely want to continue to spray and use some type of residual application, even in the fall, especially on the outdoors. There are bees, cockroaches, beetles, spiders, and fleas, which can all still be very, very active in the fall. And then aside from spray, and I mean, of course, you want to do do things to protect the house from invaders like mice, and rats. But in the years that I’ve been doing this, I can tell you, I’ve seen like, the amount of spider activity just goes up. And like, you know, the October, you know, November, in the early fall, it seems like fleas, we get a lot of calls for fleas and those type of insects. And then there’s bees, which, surprisingly, are now it’s even like, the middle of November, and our office will still get calls for yellow jackets, which are, you know, necessarily a nasty business idea, we can still get calls for yellow jackets. So there’s a lot of things that still remain active, you have some pests that are looking to enter into the home and they want to overwinter they want to stay inside of those protective conditions over the winter. So that when you know they can go out and do what they do in nature as the winter is over, but sometimes they’ll find these places in your crawlspace in your attic or some other part of your house. So spray in for bugs and insects in the fall is a good ideal is a good idea. So whoever your pest control company is, you know they should be doing that for you. They should be removing the webs from around the ears of your of your house and they should be taking care of the perimeter of the house around the doors and windows to make sure that those critters are not, you know, taken over over your house. Okay, so that is my tip for today. As far as you know, spraying in the fall is something that definitely should be done.  Until next time!

Hey, this is Quincy with Harpoon Pest Solutions. And today I just want to talk about the use of snap traps to control mice. Now, it’s the fall, October, November, that time of year when you will see something shooting across the floor in your kitchen. Unfortunately, that can happen a lot of times, you know, happens in the evening when you walk into the kitchen and get something out of the fridge and you see something shoot from underneath the table and goes under the refrigerator. And the first thing a lot of people go reach for snap traps. And snap traps are one of the best ways to get rid of things that could be crawling around your floor, especially four legged critters. But the only problem is that over my over the years that I’ve been in the business of odd times, people will complain about snap traps not working. But really what I found is that  when you see how sometimes home owners place these traps, they’re in a wrong position. And that’s a lot of the reason why snap traps don’t work for a lot of homeowners. So this a brief reminder to make the placements in a way so that,  they work for you. snap traps are great. We use them all the time. But just knowing where to place the traps is good. So one of the things that I noticed that people will place traps wherever they’ve seen the mice, or if it’s a rat, you know, and they just kind of like they put the bait to traps and they just sit them out, you know, in hopes that the rodent is just going to come up to the trap. And then you know everything is going to work like that. And it just doesn’t work like that. So you don’t want to play some out away from the from the from the floor, but you want to or out in the middle of the floor I should say but you want to kind of like move those traps closer to the to the wall, where rodents like to run they like to run right alongside the walls. And that’s how they that’s how they travel and navigate through through through rooms and spaces. And that is what you want to do you want that trigger part to be up against the wall. And when that trigger, you want to bate it, you can bate it with a number of things. You can bate it with nut butter, peanut butter, chocolate, cotton, dental floss, anything like that. And really my favorite go to really is the peanut butter, the peanut butter seems to work, they seem to go further every time. And we just kind of smear it on we just you know we don’t we don’t want to feed the mice, but we just want to smear it on we want them to get that scent. And we want them to get their nose and that trigger and boom. And that’s it you know so whenever you can make a good placement then you know that that’s going to work for you. So I just had a couple of pitch illustrations here. This way you have a point of reference, you can look at it as something that you could do to help you you know, take care of whatever is running across the floor and that House want to get it get it out of there okay to not paying rent they have to go. Hey there, this is Quincy with Harpoon Pest Solutions . And this is the Harpoon Pest Solutions Pest Control podcast. Today, I’m going to answer the question what happens when mice die in the walls? And I just want to start by saying, I’ve been on an exterminator now for almost 20 years, and we’re asked this question all the time, we get this question all the time. And it’s really, it’s a concern, because people want to know, hey, listen, you know, what am I going to deal with? If they’re just dying in the walls? You know, when they asked, you know, what, what control message Are you going to use? And we tell them? Well, we, you know, we have to use poison, you know, for your particular situation, you know, we have to use some poison, we have to use this with these dead. So they want to know, right away, you know, what was what’s going to happen, you know, is it going to stink? Is it going to smell? My last exterminator told me that you guys could use something that will make them go outside for water, and they’ll look for something to drink, and then they’ll die outside? So the answer to that is no. That’s not going to happen. You know, there’s no such thing as anything that a mouse is going to eat, or any rodent for that matter is going to eat a poison and didn’t make them go out in search of water, and in die, so exterminators came up with that, that that lie. And then we’ll tell that to people so that they wouldn’t they, I guess they may have thought that they were going to talk themselves out of a sale, if they just told people that the God’s honest truth. And the truth of the matter is, that can happen if mice eat poison, they can die inside a wall void into inside of a places and accessible that you can’t get to. And you’re going to have to deal with an unpleasant odor for 48 to 72 hours. And that is the truth. You may have to deal with depending on what type of year it is, depending on the time of year it is you may have to deal with flies. Because you know, once you have those my estate that if they dies, organic matter, you know, it’s breaking down, decaying, decomposing, and all this other stuff that happens in nature, when something dies, something live in dies, you know, the flies come out of nowhere, and it just takes over. So that could happen. And you have to deal with flies for about, I would say three days, five days, six days, maybe flies older. Those are all possibilities if an exterminator has to use poison to control mice now. Most exterminators will rely heavily on mechanical traps, so that the homeowner doesn’t have to deal with issue of unwanted odor, no one wants to have to deal with that. So the whole purpose in using the mechanical traps or snap traps initially, so that they can arrest the issue fast, and then come back on follow up, and then pull those dead runes out of there so that you don’t have to deal with runes. But here’s the thing. Some problems are more severe than others. And sometimes you have to take strong aggressive action to control mice. And what that means is that sometimes you have to use baits and you have to use poisons. And unfortunately, that’s one of the things that that can happen now. Like I said, I’ve been doing this for 20 years. And Has that happened. Yeah, it has. But more so what’s happened more, so more. So we’re able to, you know, really quickly, you know, control issues with traps. And I can almost count the times on one hand where things have died in the walls and you know, we just couldn’t get to it. And, you know, it was it was, you know, the quality of life for that customer was not good for like, a couple days. But I just don’t think that people should be lied to and it was a little annoying to kind of go behind. You know, other other exterminators and you hear people say, Oh,

Hello everyone, this is Quincy with Harpoon Pest Solutions. And this is the Harpoon Pest Solutions Pest Control podcast. Today, I just wanted to briefly talk about some things that a homeowner would do to pest proof their home. It’s very basic things too, but each season is necessary to pretty much go through your home and just inspect for some, some basic things just to look out for, especially if you are moving into a new home or if it’s your first year there. If you’re not too familiar with the with the home, you may want to have it you know, inspected or inspected yourself. So the day is going to be some things that you could actually do yourself, the first thing you want to do is check out the attic. And the ethical tell you a lot of things about that house, if there’s been an issue with mice, squirrels, raccoons, there could be things possibly already living in the attic, but you really won’t know until you actually you know, go into the attic with a powerful light. And just just take a look. It’ll tell you things about just the history of the house, or droppings there there could be even evidence that birds have gotten in stinging insects and other in other different kinds of insects. You could even see evidence of that those things would be all found in the attic. So the attic will tell you a lot of a lot of things about was making its way into your house. Right down from the attic underneath the attic is of course the bedroom. Now the bedroom is a place where not too many, you know common household pests will be found. But when you go through your bedroom and you’re changing your your sheets and your your bedding and stuff like that, you want to be on the lookout for bedbugs. anymore, bedbugs can pretty much be picked up anywhere, you know, um, you know, it used to be a time when you could kind of trace back to maybe had some home visitors that come over, maybe went on vacation somewhere, and then you brought something back, you know, maybe 10 years ago, 15 years ago was easy to kind of trace if you had an issue or how you got it, but now, not so much. It seems like you could be just about anywhere in any public place. And you know, transmission can happen, you can pick up a bedbug, you know, at any time, so really what you’re looking for when you change the sheets and pillowcases and stuff like that you’re looking for droppings, and cast skins and even actual bedbugs themselves. Now in an adult bedbug is probably going to be about the size of an apple seat. And you’ll know when you see it that it just doesn’t belong there and your bed, the droppings kind of look like Ink Spots or ink marks. The best way I can describe it is like someone just took like a Sharpie pen or like a ballpoint pen and just let the ink bleed out into the fabric sometimes you’ll see like, you know, sometimes it’ll have like a across pattern or something like that, you know, anything like that is definitely a flag should go up. And you may want to have your you know, your place inspected by a professional. Moving on down through the house to the outside of the house, you have the porch. Now a lot of people like to keep plants and you know little bit of nature out there on the porch, and that’s totally fine. But you want to make sure that you’re checking the pots thoroughly. And that the the potting soil isn’t just like full of like water sometimes in that, in that when you hit water in that potting soil. Things breed in that, you know, all kinds of sometimes nets other insects can breed in that potting soil. So you just want to be mindful that you know, take a look at the leaves, you know, remove any dead leaves, anything, anything like that that might be on a porch. Inside the house or around the house, or the walls, you have the foundation walls. And here you want to check the wood or any type of wood materials that may be part of the house becau...

Hello everyone, this is Quincy with harpoon pest solutions. And welcome to the Harpoon Pest Solutions Pest Control podcast. Today, I’m going to answer the question how to get rid of ants in the winter, how to get rid of ants in the winter. So, real quick, what causes ants in a winter? Well, there could be two probabilities, there could be an issue that you have an ant colony living in your walls. So that that could happen. I mean, you can have some species of ants can create ness above ground, they can create nest right inside of a wall void. I’ve seen this many times during inspection. Carbon ants and some other ants can create satellite colonies, you know, away from the nest, and the main nest could be outside you know, deep in the ground somewhere, and they can have satellite colonies inside wall voids inside of a house whereas warm and those forging ends, you know, answer, they send out spies and they send out scouts looking for food. It says it’s just a marvelous wonderful thing, the way these ants were designed to do this, they can just go places and use all types of pheromones and chemical signals and trails to you know, communicate with the other ants as to where there’s good food and shelter. So that could be a problem.
