OMF UK National Director Irene McMahon shares a missiological perspective on Vietnam. Listen as Irene explores some of the history that shapes Vietnamese people and the opportunities we have to share the gospel with them.

‘Be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people’, writes the Apostle Paul (Ephesians 6v18). What a wonder that we can all approach the throne of grace on behalf of our brothers and sisters amongst the peoples of Vietnam and on behalf of the millions who have not yet tasted his amazing grace. I invite you to join in this prayer for Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups and over 100 million people, based on the Lord’s Prayer.

Vietnam is a vibrant country of over 100 million people, but the church is relatively small, particularly among the ethnic Vietnamese and in the cities. Among the 53 ethnic minority groups there are a few where the number of Christians is much higher, but their strength tends to be in rural areas – a challenge in a country that is urbanising. In Anne-Marie's article, we hear of the opportunities there are to reach the Vietnamese people with the gospel.

After moving abroad for studies, Minh Anh came to know Jesus as her Saviour. Moving back home to Vietnam, she explains the opportunities to share Jesus with her colleagues, as well as the challenges of being a Christian.

In 1885, the China Inland Mission recruited seven remarkable upper-class young men in Cambridge who left behind prospects of international cricket, army service, the enjoyment of large estates, ecclesiastical advancement and commercial success to preach the gospel in China.  In 1975 OMF asked for single men willing to go into Cambodia to minister in a time of revival whilst the Khmer Rouge were advancing on Phnom Penh.
