Public Safety Videos! Part 2 where we finally get to the point! Cathy is low-key obsessed with these 1980s-1990s public safety videos, and Apache is the longest, most terrifying way to try to get kids to stop getting killed on farms in the stupidest ways imaginable. David does not feel any safer.

Cathy reminds David about another John Carpenter classic he saw a long time ago and clearly forgot how good it was. By singing. Yup, more singing.

Cathy and David go off piste this episode and talk about a film they've both seen and have ranted about together on so many occasions it's about time they recorded it for posterity. Get ready to hear two scientists lose their minds over bad science and worse script-writing.  Social media: whydidIwatch on X (for now), BlueSky, and Facebook.

EVEN MORE ARNIE! Cathy gets to talk David into watching a movie with the world's greatest actor: Arnold Schwarzenegger! It goes better than usual. Diversions include Cathy's bladder's pavlovian conditioning to the Teams tune, a new segment called 'knife chat', and the usual 'that's not how that works in real life' rant.  Apologies for the intermittent crackling noises. New microphones. Bear with us. Social media: whydidIwatch on X (for now) and Facebook.

AKIRA! TETSUO! Cathy is pitching a critically acclaimed film this time! She's letting her Otaku flag fly and trying to talk David into getting in to anime. If Akira doesn't do it, nothing will.  Big thanks to Will for his passion for anime that filled me in on Japan's fears for the future, and for recommending Evangelion! The only kind of good podcaster is a dead podcaster! As it's the 20th episode David pitches one of his favourites to Cathy: Starship Troopers! Cathy has tried twice to get in to this film, but maybe three hours of David describing it instead was what she was missing...

Sometimes... dead is better. Cathy is still in a bad mood and taking it out on David by torturing him with his greatest pet peeve: people making stupid decisions in movies. Surprise appearance from Orville the duck, and see if you can spot the point when Cathy thought David said something incredibly rude. Answers on a postcard! Or better yet, on our social media: 'WhydidIwatch' on Twitter (X) and Facebook.

Who can make a podcast, sprinkle it with laughs, cover it in detail and split it into halves? The Candy Man! Oh, Dave and Cath can... Cathy has ulterior motives this episode. And several notes: We talk a lot about racism in this episode. If you're not in the mood to listen to two white academics complain about racism then maybe give it a miss. If you'd like to learn more about excited delirium, or the Reasonable Man defence (which Cathy confusingly calls the man on the bus defence), we recommend the following podcasts: Things Fell Apart - The Most Mysterious Deaths (S2e1) More Perfect - Mr. Graham and the Reasonable Man   Music is 'Helen's Theme', performed by Michael Riesman and The Western Wind, written by Philip Glass.
