Tunnel Talk 218: Rhode Island Narcs, a 10-Man DCFC Win & Tampa Bay
2026/10/17
Detroit City FC went down a man in the 23rd minute, beat Rhode Island anyway, and locked up a home playoff match. So naturally, some Rhode Island fans found time to complain about the smoke at Keyworth. ⚜️
The Tunnel Talk crew gathers in the tunnel and gets into Herrera’s red card, Saldaña stepping in, Darren Smith’s winner, and the late corner-kick confrontation. They debate Haruki Yamazaki’s Black Arrow MVP award, whether City’s defense is strong enough to carry a playoff run, and why the attack still leaves them wanting more.
Then comes the trip to first-place Tampa Bay, the race for playoff position, and the question of Danny Dichio’s future. And yes, the crew has plenty to say about some Rhode Island podcast’s complaints and its response to a Flint water joke.
Tunnel Talk 217: Poppers, Penalties & the Black Arrow Debate | Detroit City FC
2026/10/10
The crew got dragged into the tunnel on a Wednesday they were supposed to have off. Red opens with a story about nearly taking leftover Fourth of July poppers on a date, and Alan’s absence becomes a disciplinary matter of questionable legitimacy. Eventually, somebody remembers there are three matches left in Detroit City FC’s regular season.
The crew breaks down the win over Birmingham, debates whether Le Rouge has found its playoff lineup, and asks the uncomfortable question: Will City score enough to survive a postseason match where one conceded goal might end the night? Darren Smith’s pursuit of a club scoring mark enters the conversation, along with several arguments about what those numbers mean.
Then comes the Black Arrow vote. Haruki, Kobe Hernandez, Carlos Herrera, and others make their cases for player of the year before the crew turns to Rhode Island predictions. Shout-outs somehow lead to Chattanooga, territory rights, promotion and relegation, and a grocery-store argument. Standard Tunnel Talk, more or less. ⚜️🎙️
Tunnel Talk 216: Kobe Scores From Another ZIP Code and the Refs Lose the Plot
2026/10/03
The Crew gathered in the tunnel again this week... and somehow an unexpected jersey delivery, a shirtless encounter with a stranger and the proposed Channel 4:51 OnlyFans all occurred before anyone remembered this was supposed to be a Detroit City FC podcast.
Eventually, the crew gets down to business with a blind ranking of Detroit City’s English players. Dave Edwardson, Ben Morris, Omar Sinclair, Will Mellors-Blair and Danny Deakin enter the rankings—and almost everyone immediately regrets the decisions being made.
Then it’s time to recap seven points from three matches. Le Rouge defeated Pittsburgh, survived a certified snoozefest against Colorado Springs and escaped Brooklyn with a 3–1 victory. Darren Smith delivered, Callum Montgomery restored Detroit’s lead and Kobe Hernandez-Foster launched an approximately 80-yard wondergoal from another postal district.
The crew examines Danny Dichio’s successful midweek rotation, the substitutes who changed the Brooklyn match and a penalty decision so ridiculous that even a future “VAR-lite” system should be able to overturn it. With City firmly in third place, they also survey the playoff picture and debate whether Pittsburgh, Louisville or Rhode Island would be the least unpleasant first-round opponent.
There are also stories from Detroit City’s charity jersey auctions, the questionable aroma of match-worn kits and predictions for Birmingham Legion’s visit to Keyworth. Two members of the crew predict a sensible 2–0 City win. One predicts 4–0 because restraint has never been a Channel 4:51 value.
Finally, Red shares a powerful account of accompanying a recently released immigrant to an ICE check-in through Strangers No Longer—before the traditional Tunnel Talk shout-outs return the show to its regularly scheduled level of chaos.
Tunnel Talk 215: Who Will Score for Detroit City FC? Hartford Heartbreak & Sacramento Preview
2026/09/12
The crew gathers in the tunnel once again this week to unpack two draws with two very different feelings. Detroit City FC survives a quiet trip to Louisville with a point, then watches Maxi Rodriguez’s apparent stoppage-time winner against Hartford slip away following an even later penalty at Keyworth.
Was the call against Chisom Egbuchulam fair—or did all that smoke get in the way? The crew examines City’s persistent scoring problems, the availability of Darren Smith and Ates Diouf, and whether Maxi Rodriguez, Kian Williams, Alex Dalou or Michael Bryant can provide the needed attacking spark.
They also preview the cross-country trip to Sacramento Republic, offer match and goalscorer predictions, assign themselves questionable television lower-thirds and deliver a few overdue apologies.
Tunnel Talk 214: DCFC Handles Tampa Bay 1–0, Then Looks to Louisville
2026/08/28
The crew gathers in the tunnel once again this week to celebrate Detroit City’s massive 1–0 win over first-place Tampa Bay—possibly with a helping hand. Ates Diouf finds the winner, Aedan Stanley serves up the danger, Carlos Herrera slams the door, and the group asks whether this was Danny Dichio’s best night in charge of Le Rouge.
Before getting serious, the crew dreams up the only Keyworth gate giveaways that matter: a supporter’s swear-word guide, booty shorts, a portable toilet seat, and a pre-match helmet. Then it’s on to the Eastern Conference table, a vulnerable Louisville, some wildly confident predictions, Kian Williams’ arrival, and the usual shout-outs—including a heartfelt salute to those who helped build the club behind the scenes. Somehow, colonoscopies and Kenny Rogers also make the cut.
Tunnel Talk 213: Tulsa Heat, Missing Goals and a Tampa Bay Reality Check
2026/08/22
The Crew returns to the tunnel and immediately spends valuable recording time deciding what Europeans call American football, questioning the NFL’s overseas ambitions and proposing a 20-round, all-time Detroit City FC fantasy draft destined to end with someone selecting an MPSL backup fullback from 2013. Serious preparation continues to define Channel 4:51.
Jam survives Tulsa, oppressive humidity and life as a self-described dehydrated queen. Rhys Williams’ family carries the away section, Le Rouge finally beats FC Tulsa and Darren Smith supplies another winning goal.
Then Detroit returns home and lays an egg against Loudoun United. The Crew examines the scoreless draw, the crowded Eastern Conference table and DCFC’s continuing dependence on Smith. Detroit owns one of the league’s best defenses, yet no teammate has scored more than two league goals. Potential loan help receives a cautious welcome following several forgettable attempts from past seasons.
First-place Tampa Bay visits Keyworth next, producing predictions ranging from a 2-0 Rowdies victory to a bold 1-0 Detroit win. Haruki Yamazaki continues getting kicked across every USL stadium, Carlos Herrera keeps Detroit alive and everyone searches for a secondary scoring option.
Jam also shares details about the NGS Cares clothing drive supporting Sundays in Cass, plus an upcoming Freedom House community cleanup. The shoutouts cover Frank Lampard, Coventry City’s mysterious Detroit connection, a 1970 match at Keyworth, the missing Dennis, the women’s Black Arrow winner, Garret and Tunnel Talk’s growing audience in Burma.
It’s Tunnel Talk: serious soccer analysis after twelve minutes of pointy-ball discourse and several avoidable detours.
Tunnel Talk 212: The Slowest Penalty in History and the Unofficial Guide to Tulsa
2026/08/08
The Crew gathered in the tunnel again this week... and immediately launched into an important discussion about BJ’s memberships. The warehouse club, allegedly.
Once everyone finished behaving like mature adults, the Crew turned its attention to the future AlumniFi Field and debated what its stands should be called. The nominations include legitimate club legends, the Butchers’ Bleachers, the Shakira Stand, the Sex Eagle Stand and several other ideas unlikely to survive their first meeting with the sponsorship department.
There is also soccer to discuss—unfortunately.
The Crew revisits Detroit City FC’s baffling loss to Las Vegas Lights, a match in which Le Rouge created enough chances to win comfortably and converted precisely none of them. Then comes the 2–2 draw in Miami, Tommy Silva’s dramatic late equalizer and Chisom Egbuchunam’s stoppage-time penalty, which traveled toward the goalkeeper with all the urgency of AlumniFi Field’s original construction timeline.
With DCFC heading to Oklahoma, Jam provides the definitive Tunnel Talk guide to Tulsa: visit the Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan museums, admire the Art Deco architecture, find some pasta, drink heavily and try not to end up at another strange house party. The Crew also considers the oppressive heat, Tulsa’s short rest and Jam’s impeccable record of attending DCFC matches there without ever seeing Detroit win.
Plus, live FC Tulsa updates that will be several days old by the time anyone hears them, Ben Morris joining the 100-appearance club, gout, sprained ankles, political shout-outs and another carefully researched episode number pulled directly from thin air.
It’s Tunnel Talk: serious soccer analysis for people smart enough to listen to a more serious podcast—but unwilling to do so.
Tunnel Talk 211: Can DCFC Win the League? Plus the Ultimate $18 All-Time Team
2026/07/25
The crew returns to the tunnel once again for another episode of Tunnel Talk, and this week they begin with the most important question facing Detroit City FC supporters: How do you build the perfect five-a-side DCFC team with only an $18 budget?
From Nate Steinwascher, Allison LaPointe, Omar Sinclair, Cyrus Saydee, Kayla Addison, Kenna White, Shawn-Claud Lawson, Darren Smith, and plenty more, the challenge forces some difficult choices, a little nostalgia, and more than a few disagreements.
The conversation then shifts to Le Rouge’s 2-0 victory over Indy Eleven, where the crew discusses Rafa Mentzingen’s return to form, the emergence of additional scoring threats beyond Darren Smith, and why this year’s squad looks very different from the teams that faded during previous summers. They also go full sicko mode by predicting the club’s final 15 league matches and debating whether Detroit City FC is capable of producing the best regular season in club history and earning a home playoff match.
Off the field, Jam shares stories from the AlumniFi Field groundbreaking ceremony, complete with hard hats, golden shovels, smoke effects, and an extremely hot day in Detroit. The crew discusses what the groundbreaking represents, why the project has taken time to reach this point, and how the new stadium could reshape the future of the club.
The discussion also turns to Jay Farner’s investment in Detroit City FC, exploring what the additional resources could mean for the organization while asking whether the club can continue to grow without sacrificing the supporter-driven culture that helped make it unique.
The episode wraps up with praise for Coach Dwayne Daniels’ work in the community, updates on DCFC II, and the usual mix of tangents, questionable research, and heartfelt shout-outs that somehow make perfect sense by the end. ⚜️🎙️⚽
Tunnel Talk 210: Beer, Birmingham & Building the Future
2026/07/11
The crew returns to the tunnel once again for another classic Tunnel Talk, where the conversation begins with a completely unnecessary, yet somehow essential, debate over the foods and drinks that reveal a person’s true character. From wings and pizza to Guinness, Murphy’s, and Beamish, opinions are strong before anyone even mentions soccer.
Eventually, the discussion shifts to Detroit City FC, starting with a historic update on this year’s NGS Pride Raiser. With more than $36,000 pledged and expectations of surpassing $50,000 after donations, auctions, and merchandise sales, the campaign continues to make a lasting impact for the Ruth Ellis Center, pushing the lifetime fundraising total beyond $350,000.
The crew also breaks down Detroit City’s road victory over Birmingham Legion, including Carlos Herrera’s outstanding penalty save, Ben Morris’ long-awaited return to the scoresheet, and why Le Rouge suddenly finds itself firmly in the race near the top of the USL Championship Eastern Conference.
From there, the conversation turns to the USL Cup, upcoming matches against Fort Wayne, Indy Eleven, and Las Vegas, before taking a deeper look at the club’s second team, its role in player development, and how it fits into Detroit City’s long-term vision.
The episode wraps up with an honest discussion about the Detroit City FC women’s season, including roster construction, recruiting, attendance, and how the club can continue growing support for the women’s program both on and off the field.
As always, Tunnel Talk delivers equal parts thoughtful supporter discussion, soccer analysis, and complete nonsense. ⚜️🎙️⚽

Tunnel Talk 209: Darren Smith Superstar, AlumniFi Delays Shock Absolutely Nobody
2026/06/20
The crew returns to the tunnel once again for another full slate of Detroit City FC discussion and, as usual, things quickly get off the rails.
This week, the crew revisits their favorite World Cup memories before turning their attention to Darren Smith’s historic five-goal performance against Sporting JAX, and whether the striker’s superstar status has officially arrived. They also spend some time wondering if the men’s team might actually not suck, which is not something everyone expected to be discussing a few months ago.
The conversation then shifts to the Detroit City FC women’s side, with Ann Arbor continuing its transformation into Rouge and Gold territory, before the crew discusses the latest AlumniFi Field delays, which surprised absolutely nobody.
They also address the ongoing saga surrounding Friendly, with no one entirely convinced the mascot was actually stolen in the first place.
Along the way there are tangents, hot takes, and the usual Tunnel Talk chaos that somehow makes sense by the end. ⚜️🎙️⚽
The Club: Catching Up with Stephen Carroll
2026/05/30
In the debut episode of The Club, Red sits down with Detroit City FC legend Stevie Carroll to discuss retirement, family life, and his new role with the club.
Stevie reflects on the lessons learned throughout his career, shares stories from his time in the game, and talks about the people who influenced him along the way, including Dave Dwaihy. The conversation also includes a well-deserved acknowledgment of Red’s legendary 1998 All-State soccer career.
A candid and entertaining discussion with one of Detroit City FC’s most recognizable figures as he begins the next chapter of his journey. ⚜️🎙️⚽
Tunnel Talk 208: More Incoherent Rambling | Detroit City FC
2026/05/30
In this episode of Tunnel Talk, the crew is back in the tunnel after a lengthy hiatus and, in a bold break from tradition, arrives with absolutely no agenda whatsoever.
The conversation wanders through the early stages of the Detroit City FC women’s USL-W season, including impressions from the squad’s start and what has stood out so far. The crew also takes stock of the men’s side, whose spring campaign has been a little up and down, but mostly up, as DCFC continues to battle through league play and cup competitions.
The discussion also touches on Detroit City FC’s first ever appearance at The Soccer Tournament (TST), what it means for the club, and why the event has become such an intriguing addition to the soccer calendar.
Along the way there are tangents, distractions, questionable transitions, and at least a few moments that can generously be described as incoherent rambling.
Also, if anyone happens to see Garret, please remind him to send over the Channel 4:51 YouTube password. The people need answers. ⚜️🎙️

Tunnel Talk 207: Technical Difficulties | Detroit City FC
2026/05/09
In this episode of Tunnel Talk, the crew gathers in the tunnel once again, and Red’s mic audio is mysteriously very low, which some may consider the biggest win of the episode.
Despite the technical “feature,” the crew still manages to break down Detroit City FC’s massive win over Louisville City FC and what the performance could mean moving forward for Le Rouge.
The conversation also dives into the beginning of the Dani Evans era with the club’s USLW side, including some aggressively early reactions to the women’s team roster that are absolutely fair and reasonable after roughly five minutes of observation.
The crew also discusses a few interesting tidbits coming out of the Annual Owners Meeting before the episode predictably drifts into the usual Tunnel Talk chaos.

Tunnel Talk 206: No Filters Please | Detroit City FC
2026/05/01
In this episode of Tunnel Talk, the crew gathers in the tunnel once again to break down Detroit City FC’s 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, sorting through what went wrong.
They then shift to the women’s team opener, which quickly turns into an attempt to build an all time DCFC women’s starting XI in a 4-4-2.
The crew also takes time to look back at their top three favorite matches at Keyworth, diving into the moments, atmospheres, and results that stand out the most.
As always, things wrap up with TST, because no episode of Tunnel Talk ends quietly.

2026/04/18
In this episode of Tunnel Talk, the crew returns to the tunnel while Denis is off celebrating Chicago Fire, leaving the rest to sort through Detroit City FC’s Open Cup loss and what went wrong.
The group also breaks down the result against Jacksonville and what it means for the squad moving forward. The conversation then shifts to Saturday’s matchup against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, with a preview of what DCFC needs to do to respond and get back on track.
