#245 Brianna Throssell — What It Really Takes to Win Olympic Gold and Build a Life After Sport
2026/04/23
Brianna Throssell is one of Australia's greatest ever swimmers. A three-time Olympian, two-time Olympic gold medallist, and Western Australia's most decorated Olympic swimmer, Brianna spent 12 years at the elite level representing the green and gold across three Olympic Games, six World Championships, and two Commonwealth Games. But this episode is about so much more than medals. We dive into what it actually takes to build an Olympic career over more than a decade, the culture behind why Australian swimming produces world-beaters year after year, and what it feels like to finally stand on top of the podium after years of being the ultimate team player. Brianna was famously described as the "unsung hero" of the Australian swim team, and in this conversation you will understand exactly why that label both fits and undersells her. We also talk about what happens when the pool is no longer your whole identity. After retiring in March 2025, Brianna has joined Deloitte's Mergers and Acquisitions team through their athlete program, and she opens up about what that transition has really looked like, the lessons elite sport gives you that no business degree can, and how she is channelling a lifetime of discipline and teamwork into a brand new chapter. In this episode we cover: Brianna's journey from Subiaco to three Olympic Games and two gold medalsWhat it was like to go from relay workhorse to Olympic champion in Tokyo and ParisWhy Australian swimmers are consistently among the best in the worldWhat it means to be a team player at the highest level and why that is its own kind of excellenceThe emotional reality of retiring from a sport that has been your whole lifeHow the Deloitte athlete program works and what drew Brianna to itThe skills elite athletes bring to the corporate world that money can't buyWhat she knows now about resilience, identity, and starting over Connect with Brianna: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/briannathrossell Enjoyed this episode? #244 Dr Ash Hamilton — Why Your Pain Is Trying to Tell You Something and How to Finally Listen
2026/04/16
Most people see an osteopath when their back gives out or their neck won't turn. They get treated, they leave, and they come back when it happens again. Dr Ash Hamilton does things differently. As an osteopath and mind-body speaker, Ash has built his practice around something most in his field overlook: that the body keeps score, and if you only treat the physical, you are only telling half the story. His patients are often the ones who have been everywhere else first. The ones who have tried everything and are still in pain. The ones who need someone who will actually look at the whole picture. In this episode, Ash takes us through his journey to finding a genuine love for his craft, why he became just as focused on the mind as the body, and what he has learned from working with people that the system could not figure out. This is a conversation that will change the way you think about pain, healing, and what it actually means to feel well. In this episode we cover: Ash's journey into osteopathy and how he found his passion for the mind-body connectionWhy so many people with chronic pain end up at his door after exhausting every other optionHow the mind and body communicate and why you cannot treat one without the otherWhat chronic pain is really telling us and why it is so often misunderstoodThe mindset shifts that help his patients finally break through after years of strugglePractical tools for understanding your own body and nervous system betterWhat Ash wishes more people knew about pain, healing, and long-term wellbeing Connect with Dr Ash Hamilton: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/dr.ashhamilton/ Website https://steponeosteo.com.au/ Enjoyed this episode? #243 Govind Sandhu — Cancer, Grief, and the Courage to Keep Going
2026/04/09
Govind Sandhu has lived a life most people would dream of. Born in India, raised in New Zealand, and built for adventure, he spent years travelling the world working for some of the biggest brands on the planet including Red Bull and TikTok. By every measure, he was thriving. Then everything changed. While living in Austria working for Red Bull, Govind lost his dad. And because of COVID, he couldn't get home. No funeral. No family. No closure. Just grief, alone, on the other side of the world. Not long after, at the peak of his health and fitness, he was diagnosed with blood cancer. And then he lost his partner. Three of the heaviest things a human being can carry, arriving in the same chapter of his life. With no roadmap, no playbook, and at times no way home. This episode is not a story about falling apart. It is a story about what it actually takes to keep going when life gives you every reason not to. Govind is one of the most open, grounded, and genuinely resilient people I have sat across from, and this conversation will stay with me for a long time. If you have ever had to find your way through something that felt impossible, this one is for you. In this episode we cover: Govind's journey from India to New Zealand and building a global career with Red Bull and TikTokLosing his dad while living abroad in Austria and being unable to return home due to COVIDWhat it felt like to be diagnosed with blood cancer at the peak of his health, not long afterThe loss of his partner and how he carried so much grief at onceWhat resilience actually looks like when it is being tested in real timeThe mindset shifts that helped him move forward without bypassing the painHow he found meaning and purpose on the other side of the hardest chapter of his lifeWhat he wants other people to know when they are in the middle of their own storm If this episode brought something up for you, please reach out for support. #239 Thomas Herman — The Wakeboarder Who Landed the Impossible Triple Flip
2026/03/12
This week on the Good Humans Podcast I’m joined by professional wakeboarder Thomas Herman, one of the most progressive riders the sport has ever seen. Thomas has been ranked as high as World No. 2 and made history as the first and only wakeboarder to land a triple flip behind a boat. It’s one of those moments that completely changed what people believed was possible in wakeboarding. In this conversation we dive into Thomas’s journey growing up in the US, how he got into wakeboarding, and the mindset it takes to keep pushing the limits of a sport where progression often means attempting tricks no one has ever landed before. We talk about the story behind the triple flip, the pressure of competing at the highest level, and how he manages fear when the consequences of mistakes can be huge. Thomas is someone who truly embodies progression, courage and dedication to his craft, and I loved hearing about the mindset that has allowed him to reach the very top of his sport. In this episode we cover: • Thomas’s journey into professional wakeboarding • What it took to become World No. 2 • The story behind landing the first ever triple flip behind a boat • The mental side of pushing limits in extreme sports • How he handles fear, pressure and progression A powerful conversation about backing yourself, pushing boundaries and chasing what’s possible. 2026/03/05
In this episode of the Good Humans Podcast, I sit down with writer, speaker and former lifestyle journalist Elle Halliwell to share one of the most powerful health journeys I’ve ever heard. Elle built a successful career reporting for some of Australia’s biggest publications including Vogue Australia, Marie Claire and The Australian. But in 2016, her life changed forever. In the space of just 48 hours, Elle was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer and then discovered she was pregnant with her first child. In this conversation we explore: • Elle’s childhood and early career in radio and journalism • The stress and anxiety she experienced in her 20s while building her career • The moment she discovered she had leukaemia • Finding out she was pregnant just two days after her diagnosis • Navigating cancer treatment while carrying her baby • How she managed her mental health during such an uncertain time • The role organisations like the Leukaemia Foundation play in supporting families facing blood cancer • Living with blood cancer and stepping into motherhood with a completely new perspective on life Elle’s story is one of resilience, courage and finding purpose through life’s most unexpected challenges. #237 Rochelle Fox - Becoming Magnetic to Your Dreams Through Meditation
2026/02/26

Rochelle shares her personal journey, from struggling with anxiety and self-doubt to building a global meditation movement that has impacted millions. We unpack how meditation is not about escaping your life, but about becoming more present, more powerful, and more aligned with who you truly are. We speak about: The real reason so many people struggle to meditateHow to become a better meditator without needing to be perfectThe science behind consistency and rewiring your identityWhat it means to be “magnetic” and how energy influences opportunityHow to align your thoughts, habits and emotions with the life you wantPractical tools from her book Magnetic you can start using today Rochelle explains that magnetism is not about chasing or forcing outcomes. It is about becoming the version of you who naturally attracts the opportunities, relationships and experiences that align with your highest self. This conversation is a powerful reminder that meditation is not about sitting still for hours. It is about training your mind, regulating your nervous system and choosing who you want to become, one day at a time.
