We discuss the trend of self-health as we framed it in a (potentially) old first asynchronous podcast. Who knows - maybe this is better than peer review in the future while giving time to think slow while also thinking fast as we discuss - we both do some exercise as we record as this podcast is about exploring what is hard to capture in the sedentary lifestyle of the armchair philosopher. I prepare to present my PhD as well as learning about climate change as the theme of the conference. I outline a post doc proposal I have been working on as well

I managed to convince Dr. Conor Heffernan to talk to me after just emailing once with the explanation that this podcast involves hardcore working out while discussing research. His work and ability to communicate in audio is something that inspired me to reach out in the first place. Conor specialises in the history of physical culture even though through the conversation and my ability to ask statements rather than question I manage to see the multiple academic and practical influences on his mental palimpsest

Final preparations before our no tech triathlon, doing a 4km swim, 180miles cycle and 42 km run up Snowden. A huge debate over strategies on how to pace ourselves

l talk to Paul Burgum who inspired me at the Royal Geographical Society hosted Explore conference. His PhD research at Durham University looks at themes close to my heart such as resilience and self-determination I am so grateful he played along and went on the run while we recorded. We talked broadly but also covered key data from his research on Reduced mood variability is associated with enhanced performance during ultrarunnning

A brief note to reflect on what phenomenological study can be helpful for - finding out what a thing is about even if there is so many variations of the thing. Treat with caution as you might bring your expectations to this and assume I am suggesting phenomenological study doesn't have its limitations and inappropriate use when more precise methods are needed

The experimental podcasting continues with another attempt at making bad quality podcasting. We recorded on the go. We have proper microphones but they didn't seem to work well. We still enjoyed talking about our cycle, swim and run adventure. Not sure why Anchor uploaded a video from Teams but don't have the time to edit a podcast. Let's hope we get better over time. 

I do an update on the PhD writing including heuristics or rules of thumb for writing faster then I share views from the first sub-section of my findings chapter around personal priorities.... All of that while cycling

Me and my mate Charlie are planning to do what we call an Iron Age Man. Cycle over a 100 miles, swim then marathon running - the Iron Man distances - but do that with no digital technology. He thinks a polaroid camera counts as Iron Age tech but I disagree. Anyway, the aim is to get better at making decisions under uncertainty. Just the way a natural scientist uses a microscope or a telescope to study things normal perception can't access a social scientist must exaggerate the experience they are studying by living it in an extreme form. I study decision-making under uncertainty. Not knowing the way an still going forward is a good experiment with an N of 1... or 2 in this case. I am forever grateful to Charlie who is willing to try anything with me
