Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 14 Sometimes when we don’t know who we are, we can’t ever come to terms with who God is. Living a false narrative of what the world perceives us to be is much easier than the transformation that leads to becoming who Christ created us to be. As a young husband and father, I got so caught up being the main character in the story I was writing that I failed to realize I was just the supporting cast in the one God was. It became clear in the midst of my “yes” to the cross that what I did in this life didn’t define who I was now or will be in the next. This is the journey of how a young husband and father grew to understand that redemptive suffering in and through Jesus Christ is the only path one can take to achieve personal holiness. Art of Suffering Show Notes - Episode 9 Fran Hampton was your average everyday American teenager in the mid 1970’s. Dating a high school sweetheart and being in love she suddenly found herself pregnant. With the advent of the 1973 Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade she had an option not available to other women only a few years earlier to choose abortion. A devout Catholic and supported by family, she chose the path less traveled and carried her unborn child to birth and offered him to be adopted. Some thirty years later, providence, prayer, and the Hand of God brought mother and son back together and help mend wounds and inner doubts for mother and son after the decision to let him have a better life with another family. Adoption, the forgotten option, is a story of immeasurable love displayed by a mother that during an unexpected pregnancy puts her child’s needs above her own.
