What Made Abraham the First Jew? It’s Not What You Think
2026/10/22
Abraham discovered G-d at the age of three, smashed his father's idols and risked his life rather than worship false gods. Yet the Torah barely mentions any of these extraordinary achievements. Instead, Abraham's story begins with two simple words: Lech Lecha, “Go for yourself.” Why does the Torah overlook Abraham's spiritual greatness? And what does this reveal about the fundamental difference between the Jewish relationship with G-d and that of the rest of humanity? A fascinating teaching of the Lubavitcher Rebbe reveals what truly makes a Jew Jewish, and why our connection with G-d goes deeper than faith, understanding or even religious observance. Based on Likkutei Sichos, Volume 25, Lech Lecha, Sicha 1.
You Cancelled the Electrician. He Still Wants $1,200. Fair?
2026/10/21
You booked an electrician for a full day's work: $1,200. He shows up on time, ready to go. But the equipment he came to install never arrived. He says you owe him for the full day anyway. Do you? The Talmud (Bava Metzia 76b) has a clear answer, and it comes down to one question: who had the information? If you knew - or should have known - that the job couldn't go ahead and you didn't warn him, his lost day is your loss. But if he could easily have found other work that morning, you don't owe him a cent. You owe him something else: an apology. In Jewish law a "grievance" is a real claim. Not in dollars, but in how you treat people. A class on the Talmud's rules of hiring and cancelling workers (Bava Metzia, chapter 6) with Rabbi Aron Moss of Nefesh, Bondi Beach.
The Creatures That Shouldn't Have Survived Noah's Ark
2026/10/15
Noah's Ark was home to thousands of creatures for an entire year. But according to the Talmud, some of those creatures couldn't possibly live that long. So how did they survive? A fascinating question leads us from the Talmud to the Rebbe's writings, revealing a surprising insight into the nature of time itself. And the Baal Shem Tov takes the story one step further, showing us how we can enter Noah's Ark today. Join Rabbi Aron Moss for a mind-bending journey through Torah, science and the mysteries of the Flood.
Bad Advice, Big Loss: When Does Your Opinion Cost You?
2026/10/14
You ask a friend for financial advice. They confidently tell you it's a great investment. You trust them, put your money in, and lose everything. Now here's the $20,000 question: Does your friend owe you the money? What if they genuinely believed their advice? What if they're an expert? And what if you never told them you were relying on their opinion? In this lively, thought-provoking Talmud class, Rabbi Aron Moss explores an ancient debate about a money-changer who made a costly mistake, and discovers some surprisingly relevant principles about expertise, negligence, trust and responsibility. When does giving advice mean taking responsibility for the consequences? An ancient Talmudic argument with a very modern sting. Part of Talmud in Real Life with Rabbi Aron Moss.

Is Israel Stolen Land? The Bible's Very First Comment Answers
2026/10/08
The Torah is a book of instruction. So why does it begin with the creation of the world rather than the first mitzvah? Rashi's opening comment connects this question to the Jewish people's claim to the land of Israel. The Rebbe takes it a step further: why did the land have to belong to other nations before becoming the Holy Land? And what does that teach us about our food, work, conversations and everyday life?

You Can't Rejoice Alone
2026/08/27
A Jewish farmer owns his land, grows his fruit and is ready to thank G-d. So why must he wait until every other Jew has received a place of their own? Through a striking teaching of the Rebbe, this class uncovers the Torah’s radical definition of happiness: if someone else is still unsettled, my own joy cannot yet be complete.
When Every Judge Says Guilty
2026/08/27
The Talmud teaches a startling law: if every judge on the Sanhedrin immediately finds the accused guilty, he is acquitted. Why should unanimous agreement prevent a conviction? We explore the explanations of the Yad Ramah, Maimonides, the Maharal, and a fascinating Jewish-Christian disputation—culminating in the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s powerful teaching that Torah punishment is meant not merely to penalize, but to uncover the hidden good within a person, bring atonement, and restore the soul.
