When gospel music meets the mainstream music business, where do faith, influence, and commercial opportunity intersect? On *Straight Talk*, Ricardo Montgomery and Toccara Nicole discuss high-profile gospel artists partnering with secular companies and ask whether those moves can introduce more people to faith—or risk blurring the message over time. Ricardo describes the concern as a “slow drip” of cultural influence, while Toccara considers how familiar sounds and wider exposure might open a door for listeners. The conversation also looks at the history of gospel music crossing into mainstream spaces, the role of discernment, and how music can shape what people—and the next generation—consider normal. The hosts don’t see every issue the same way, but their exchange raises a bigger question: how can faith communities engage with culture without losing sight of their convictions? Listen for a thoughtful, spirited conversation about gospel music, influence, and the choices believers make about what they bring into their homes and lives.

Kirk Franklin’s prayer over Chris Brown and Usher sparked backlash, but the real question is bigger: are Christians willing to go where the people actually are? Toccara Nicole and Riccardo Montgomery unpack why this moment hit a nerve, and why reaching people in hard places may matter more than looking religious.

Ricardo Montgomery and co-host Toccara Nicole turn a funny church moment into a deeper conversation about discernment, spiritual growth, and why some people are forced to wait for what God is still building in them. What starts with a viral-style "God called him elder" clip quickly becomes a real word for anyone who's ever felt ahead of schedule, behind in life, or tempted to accept someone else's declaration before they're ready. Ricardo and Toccara break down why not every prophetic-sounding moment should be received at face value, why spiritual maturity matters, and how even David had to wait after being anointed before he became king. **You'll discover:** - Why new believers need different handling than longtime churchgoers - How to tell the difference between genuine spiritual guidance and pressure - Why timing matters just as much as calling - What it means to be developed before being released - How disciples can unintentionally help or hurt someone else's growth They also get into one of the most important responsibilities in the church: being careful with your words when people are still growing in their faith. Toccara shares a powerful example about how quickly younger ears repeat what they hear, and why wisdom, discernment, and patience can make the difference between building someone up or knocking them off course. **Riccardo Montgomery** is the host of Straight Talk on Keep God First, known for turning everyday conversations into faith-driven, practical teaching. **Toccara Nicole** brings the co-host perspective with honesty, humor, and a strong emphasis on spiritual maturity and helping others grow with care. If you've ever wondered why God seems to move slowly when you want instant answers, this episode will hit home. It's funny, real, and quietly challenging in all the right ways—perfect for anyone learning how to wait well, speak wisely, and trust God's process. The sands of time are always flowing. Your time on earth is a gift from God. Don't waste it on things that don't matter. Use your time to grow, to learn, and to serve God. Every moment is an opportunity to make a difference in the world. Don't let these opportunities slip away. Make every second count for something good. #KeepGodFirst #StraightTalk #RiccardoMontgomery #Time #Growth #ServeGod #MakeADifference #Opportunity #EverySecondCounts #GoodWorks #Blessed #Faith #Hope #Love #Inspiration #Motivation #GrowthMindset #LifeLessons #PositiveVibes

Most people try to tell their story before they’ve healed from it. Robyn Williams spent over two years writing *Beauty for Ashes: The Take Back* because the book forced her to face unresolved pain, protect people she loves, and discover what healing actually looks like. If you’ve ever felt stuck in trauma, identity questions, or a faith journey that still feels unfinished, this conversation will hit home. Robyn joins Ricardo Montgomery on *Straight Talk* to share how a memoir that was supposed to take three months turned into a deeply spiritual, two-year process of prayer, reflection, and emotional breakthrough. What started as a simple writing project became a mirror, revealing unresolved wounds with her mother, old friendships, and the difference between knowing about God and truly understanding your relationship with Him. You’ll discover: - Why Robyn almost titled the book something completely different, and how the final title was confirmed through prayer - The meaning behind the Phoenix on the cover and how it ties to Greek mythology, her name, and her and her husband DL’s story - How writing memoir can reopen old wounds, and why she had to pause, pray, and heal before moving forward - Why she believes readers who grew up without parents, with strained family relationships, or in seasons of identity confusion will see themselves in this story - How her husband’s support, their shared faith, and their ministry shaped both the book and the mission behind it Robyn also opens up about the heart behind her ministry, Esther’s Three Days, and why this book is about more than personal testimony - it’s about hope, restoration, and reminding people that they are not alone in what they’re carrying. Her message is clear: your struggle does not disqualify you, and your story can still become something beautiful. This episode matters if you need encouragement to keep going, courage to face what’s unresolved, or a reminder that God can turn pain into purpose. It’s especially powerful for anyone navigating family wounds, a calling they’re still learning to trust, or the kind of healing that takes more time than you expected. Perfect for listeners who love faith-driven stories, honest testimony, and conversations about redemption, identity, and purpose. If you need proof that ashes are not the end of the story, this is the one to play next.

What happens when a pastor, a podcaster, and a faith-driven entrepreneur all ask the same uncomfortable question: who gets to decide what ministry is worth? Riccardo Montgomery and Toccara Nicole sit down with **InfluencHER Media** to unpack one of the hottest debates in the Christian world right now - a pastor charging for a podcast tour - and the conversation turns into something much bigger: calling, compensation, obedience, and the stories people miss when they only see the headline. They break down the tension between “the gospel is free” and the real costs of building a platform outside the church, while Toccara makes the case that support, tickets, and business models are not the same thing as selling salvation. Riccardo pushes into the propaganda and backlash that surrounds pastors, church culture, and public perception, asking why outrage spreads so fast when faith meets media. Along the way, **InfluencHER Media** shares the heart behind her work - why she believes influence is a form of stewardship, how her magazine was built to help women heal and grow, and why her own journey through trauma, identity, and renaming became the foundation for her mission. She opens up about leaving survival mode behind, learning to trust God step by step, and using her platform to help women move from pain to purpose. You’ll hear: - Why charging for a faith-based podcast tour sparked so much controversy - The difference between ministry inside the church and a separate business venture - Why some people support paid events while others see it as crossing a line - How public narratives and “church propaganda” shape what people believe - The story behind **InfluencHER Media** and its mission to serve women in transition - Why identity, healing, and influence are deeply connected **InfluencHER Media** is the founder of **InfluencHER Media and Lifestyle**, a faith and lifestyle brand centered on helping women heal, grow, and steward their influence well. Her story moves from trauma and identity toward purpose, calling, and Kingdom impact. This episode is for anyone wrestling with faith, calling, money, public perception, or the question of how to build something meaningful without compromising the message. If you’ve ever wondered whether ministry, media, and business can coexist, this conversation will challenge you, encourage you, and give you a lot to think about.

EPISODE DESCRIPTION A growing attack on Christianity is showing up in places you might not expect - like a public venue blocking a Youth for Christ gathering while making room for everything else. Riccardo Montgomery and Toccara Nicole break down why that matters, why young people are being targeted, and what parents, pastors, and church leaders need to do next. What starts as a local controversy turns into a bigger conversation about faith, politics, youth culture, and the pressure Christians face simply for trying to create space for Jesus. Toccara calls out the hurt and segregation she sees in the story, while Riccardo connects it to a larger pattern: when Christ-centered voices start reaching young people, the world pushes back. You'll discover: - Why this Youth for Christ situation feels bigger than one town in Michigan - How attacks on Christian outreach often show up indirectly through policy, access, and public pressure - Why kids are already seeking Jesus on their own through TikTok, YouTube, and online clips - The difference between shallow, secondhand faith and real discipleship with trusted adults - Why giving young people a role in church can make or break their connection to faith Riccardo also makes the case that the real issue is not just opposition from outside the church - it's what happens when we stop making room for the next generation to ask questions, serve, and grow. Toccara adds an important challenge for parents who feel unprepared: don't shut your kids down. Walk with them, learn with them, and find someone you trust who can help cultivate their relationship with Jesus. If you've ever wondered why Christianity seems to face so much resistance, or how to help the young people in your life build a faith that lasts, this conversation is for you. Essential listening for parents, pastors, ministry leaders, and anyone who believes the next generation needs Jesus now more than ever.
