VA 11, ep. 3 Vacatio Regis; A vacuum of power in Overseas Empires, fueled by dreams of Independence transform the world as the 19th century begins
2026/10/12
We continue to explore the unfolding history of the port of Cartagena. As the world enters the 19th century, the collisions between the world's empires creates a vacuum of power, the aptly named Vacatio Regis, which has direct implications in the nascent movements for independence in the colonial territories of both the Spanish and French crowns. We persist on appraising the recycled human conflicts through the kaleidoscope of history. You are cordially invited to join our discoveries and search for truth, sometimes horrors, and beauty.
VA 11, Ep. 2 Inquisition; can we each subvert the factors of Institutionalized Ideological Control?

Yes! Be, Question, Resist; Summon the spirit of the Indomitable Victoria Amazonica
VA 11, Ep. 1 ES De Kalamary a Cartagena, Descifrando el Caleidoscopio de los Conflictos Humanos Reciclados
2026/08/29
VA11, Ep. 1 From Kalamary to Cartagena, Appraising the Kaleidoscope of Recycled Human Conflicts
2026/08/13
We were once again summoned from our break by the magic of water lilies.  Meanwhile, the Amazon Rainforest continues to deliver the hidden ruins of a grander past than experts had dared to imagine  before, thanks to LIDAR technologies. My invitation, this season, to you, dear friend, is to think of history as a kaleidoscope. We begin our journey by exploring the histories of Kalamary, which eventually became Cartagena de Indias, in order to understand the maneuvers of control and power that the conquering Spanish Empire deployed to control the wealth, both cultural and literal, of what they denominated as the New World.
VA 10 ES, Ep. 10 GENESIS; ¿Seremos la Sal de la Tierra?
2026/06/26
VA 10, Ep. 10 VA 10, Ep. 10 GENESIS; Are We the Salt of the Earth?
2026/06/05
I conclude this season with the last project Sebastiáo Salgado dedicated 8 years of his life to create: GENESIS, a mature volume which offers a 360 degree view of the last places of the world that remain wild as well as some of their inhabitants. He travelled to remote locations and divided his opus into Planet South, Sanctuaries, Africa, Northern Spaces and finally, he explored his beloved Amazon and Pantanal in his native Brazil. His narrative is full of detail, just as arresting as his images, and I invite you to join our adventure. Genesis has been recognized as Salgado's most personal and optimistic work. Along with the documentary that celebrated his life, I dare ask: Are we the salt of the Earth?
VA 10, Ep. 9 ES ORO ; Una Fiebre Amazónica, una Parábola para el Futuro de la Humanidad
2026/05/20
VA 10, Ep. 9 GOLD ; An Amazon Fever, a Parable for Humanity’s Future
2026/05/06
Sebastiáo Salgado's GOLD is a book about obsession: "What is it about a dull yellow metal that drives men to abandon their homes, sell their belongings, and cross a continent in order to risk life, limb and sanity for a dream?" Serra Pelada-Bald Mountain, in Brazil's Pará State, was an open-air mine for 10 years, but the relevance of this collection is timeless. GOLD is a major document of modern history and an extraordinary photographic portfolio. Its publication also marked a period of international recognition for Salgado, and offered black and white photography, a renaissance of sorts. This story is also a parable which can offer us a timeless mirror image through which to analyze humanity's fast profit and maximum effort formulas of exploitation. El Dorado definitely seems to be a legend that humanity refuses to outgrow; and the price of such schemes just keeps becoming steeper.
VA 10, Ep. 8 ES Las Otras Americas, Cruzando el Umbral Hacia la Exploración del Mundo como una Aldea
2026/04/18
VA 10, Ep. 8 The Other Americas, Crossing the Threshold Into the Exploration of the World as a Village
2026/04/03
I share ideas fromThe Other Americas, another powerful book by Sebastiáo Salgado. From that departure point, I explore the current realities directly related to this deep exploration of the lives of those we call Others.. After reminiscing about New Orleans, a city I love which welcomed us as an inclusive village, I follow the words of a book titled If the World were a Village, which offers clues to recover compassion and respect for the interconnected realities we share on our planetary home; a world-minded approach to life.
VA 10, Ep. 7 Withstanding Chaos; Summoning An Uncertain Grace by Recalling our Memories of Common Humanity
2026/03/06
As an old world order cracks, these fissures demand that we each re-align our values and find clarity within the chaos. Delving into the images and words contained within Sebastiáo Salgado's opus, I was reminded of a landmark book in my life, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. I will briefly summarize its narrative to explain why it has become important to mention it. The Salgado volume I share today has a propitious title: Uncertain Grace, and combined with the words of Eduardo Galeano, who wrote the preface, and Fred Ritchin, who penned the conclusion, I hope to highlight the importance of memory, of our shared past and common humanity, as valuable tools to withstand the uncertainty and fear we encounter at this historical crossroads.

- EXODO Los Seres Humanos somos una Especie que Migra
2026/02/17
EXODUS; Human Beings are a Species That Migrates
2026/02/06
I resume this tenth season with Sebastiáo Salgado's EXODUS, a timely and urgent book which has the power remind us that we are all, in one way or another, migrants. Salgado travelled to more than 35 countries in order to document displacement, firsthand,  travelling along with each of the populations he documented. This massive volume rhymes with my own words in which I declare I am Migrant. With text, Salgado's images and poetry, I invite you, dear listener, to witness the inequity, the obvious neglect that human beings on the move navigate.  Migrants have been the subjects of abuses and injustices which have continued to escalate since last year and into 2026, regardless of the color of their skin, their nationality, their identity, even their tender age, or gender. Salgado asserted, as he concluded his opus: "We hold the key to humanity's future, but for that, we must understand the present. We cannot afford to look away."
