Welcome to season 6 of EQaboveIQ Parenting with Emotional Intelligence and Healing the Inner Child! My name is Trina Casey, and I work as a Certified CBT and EQ Coach, Family Trauma Professional, Educator, Children’s Book Author, and most importantly, the Mom of an AWESOME kid! I am biased on that last one!  I started this podcast FIVE seasons ago to help parents learn the five principles of Emotional Intelligence as they were raising their children. I also know the importance of healing the inner child as we confront the generational trauma that seems to plague this world. All my years of research and study brought me to a word I had never heard in school, and I doubt most of you have not, either.  HEGEMONY! The word carries a heavy weight to it, and you will know why as you look up the definition. I would define it for you, but its impact on every aspect of our daily life is something I would like you to reflect on your own.  This season I will dive deep into how hegemony affects how we parent, educate, and love our children. In this episode, I discuss depression and how masking leads to suicide. We lost another light in the world. Stephen “Twitch” Boss took his life this week. Everyone said, “He seemed so happy!” but where are we holding space to allow him to be unhappy? This is the problem with depression in a  world so heavy and oppressive that we feel we have to wear a mask and our order to survive. And truth be told, other people's sadness triggers people. We become avoidant. We don’t hold space for other people's struggles because we’re usually struggling, but we are unwittingly stopping ourselves from healing through solidarity and compassionate empathy. If we want to change the world, we must change how we see sad people struggling and considered “weak. We have all been there too. Hoping you all have a peaceful holiday season!
