Description

We’re all familiar with the common phrase, “I’m giving myself permission to...” which is usually to declare an external action of self-indulgence. What started as a simple phrase became my awakening to the deeper work of letting our Sacred Expressive Life Force™ (ourSELF) guide us. Each episode, I take the overused phrase and flip it into a radical act of inner freedom where fear, doubt, and ego resistance are called out. This podcast is for anyone ready to break mental chains, shed your armor of the wounded warrior, and Give YourSELF Permission to reveal your life’s truth.

You’re Expanding, Ready Your Heart
2025/11/16
Kelvin Lumpkin noted, “Your heart has to be ready to handle the weight of your Calling.” In this episode, I tackle a question my oldest niece asked me during one of my pity parties: “Why are you holding a grudge against yourself?” I’ve had to grapple with the emotional toll of becoming who I prayed to be and walking into the life I asked Divine ONENESS to expand. More importantly, to figure out who or what taught ME to doubt mySELF to the point of self-betrayal and resist my highest good.
Are You Willing to Heal Your Bloodline?
2025/09/18
We carry more than just our own scars — we bear the wounds, fears, and weighted oppression of those who came before us. This conversation isn’t about perfection or pretending the hurt never happened. It’s about reclaiming the authority to alchemize pain into power, fear into clarity, and inherited wounds into a new language of wholeness. Because the question isn’t whether your bloodline needs healing. The real question is — are you willing to be the one who starts to heal?
Healed Enough to Hold My Wounds Differently
2025/08/05
This episode is the second of my conversation about our emotional wounds—it’s an invitation to reclaim the power hidden inside them. We’ll explore how our scars, especially in the African American experience, are not signs of weakness but sacred guideposts that point us toward our purpose. You’ll learn why embracing our wounds as wisdom—not baggage—can awaken our Sacred Expressive Life Force™ and transform how we see ourselves, our history, and our role in healing our community. If you’ve ever wondered how your pain could become power, this episode will show you why you are already qualified to be the healer the world needs.
This Ain't Our Celebration
2025/07/09
Every year, this country throws a party on the 4th of July with flags, fireworks, and songs of freedom. But I’m no longer willing to ignore that woven into the broad stripes and stars of this celebration is a history of cruelty, erased contributions, sacrifices, and unpaid debts to those who built this country without freedom or safety. As a Black woman, I know this ain’t our celebration. Yet, while they whitewash history, the present and future call us to reclaim what’s ours: purpose, wholeness, and sovereignty. If you no longer want to carry the emotional burden of this country’s illusions… You need to listen to this episode, because it’s the perfect time to strategize our SELF-Reparation—instead of waiting for the healing justice that this country has never provided.
The Scars We Carry, the Power They Hold
2025/06/09
This episode dives deep into the wounded healer—not as a victim, but as a vessel of wisdom. Our scars aren’t proof of weakness; they’re the receipts of our fortitude and the blueprint to our purpose. As African Americans, our generational emotional injuries carry a sacred knowing that qualifies us to heal, lead, and transform. Tune in as we reclaim the power in our wounds and awaken the Sacred Expressive Life Force™ within.
Two Truths, One Legacy: Wounded Yet Powerful
2025/04/15
We are the descendants of both pain and power—and that truth lives in our bodies, in our breath, and in how we choose to move through the world. In this deeply personal episode, Dr. Pennie Murray explores what it means to carry two truths at once without trying to prove our worth through the struggle of this inner tug-of-war, but in realizing the most radical thing we can do is to “rest with purpose.” Not as a retreat or because we’re giving up—but because we’re finally tuning in to the truth of our Sacred Expressive Life Force™. When rest is intentional, it becomes a reclamation. It becomes healing. It becomes a way to rewrite our story—on our own terms.
Rest With Purpose
2025/03/10
In honor of Women’s History Month, this episode of Rest with Purpose pays tribute to the African American women ancestors—those unsung wounded warriors who, despite their emotional wounds, mastered the art of subtle resistance. Within the confines of their daily, gender-defined roles, they moved with cunningness and courage, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary acts of defiance. We also explore a new revolution—one anchored in three pillars of resistance, beginning with the radical act of Resting with Purpose.
When Resistance Speaks Revelation Occurs
2025/02/07
In this first episode of my podcast "Remix," I share my journey of regaining focus and staying true to my life's spiritual assignment. While I was shifting my focus to rebel against the injustice of this 2.0 regime of social discrimination, my divine assignment won out. With a firm scolding from my niece that ended with her using my own words against me—“Stay Focused.” I realized that a rebellion isn’t just about resistance. It’s about revelation.
Women's History Month: Say Her Name!
2023/03/10
Women's History Month is all about recognizing the many achievements and contributions women have made toward this country's progress. This year I choose to recognize a group of women who have made a different kind of contribution to push this country forward. The many Black women who died at the hands of the police. For the remainder of Women's History Month, I'll be posting the names of some of the Black Women who were killed by police to honor their life, their imprints, and the message they left for us to grapple with.  So, look me up on Instagram each day of Women’s History Month and join me in knowing and then Saying Her Name. https://www.instagram.com/drpenniemurray
A Christmas Message: Finding a New Pathway Back
2022/12/26
This year for the week of Christmas and New Year, I chose to spend it alone… to spend quality time with my SELF. My choice was not based on sadness, depression, COVID, or family drama… Instead, I just wanted some “concentrate on ME” time.  But I wanted to offer a quick message of "soul care" for those who might feel alone, disoriented, disconnected, or energetically off-balance this holiday season. Most importantly, to advocate for the "magic" word of the season—that ushers in a different perspective and quality of life.
Black Love - Rewind the Vibe Episode
2022/08/31
Black Love…An Evolutionary Love! is one of my popular episode... So I'm rewinding the vibe.  Andrew Harvey has said that “The crisis we are facing is a crisis in which the sacred powers of love in the human soul are being diverted by distractions, greed, ignorance, and the pursuit of power. In this chaos, the evolutionary energy of love is blocked from irrigating the hearts of humans… and preventing us from transforming the world as we should.” We all want to love and be loved… but do we acknowledge and honor that WE ARE LOVE incarnate. Do we comprehend that we are the physical extension of LOVE’s non-physical Divine Spirit? This episode is dedicated to the Evolutionary Energy of Love… especially Black Love, which has braved the historical atrocities of overt and covert racism... as well as our own self-sabotaging actions. It is also dedicated to African American Women whose unrelenting, irreplaceable energy… throughout history… has never faltered in being a cornerstone for the African American family, our community, as well as the world around them.
Confessions of a Wounded Messenger_Pt2
2022/07/01
This is part 2 of Confessions of a Wounded Messenger. What prompted me to make part 2 was my Divine Allies asking me a simple yet provocative question... “But What do YOU want?” I should have been able to answer that question almost immediately… but I couldn’t. So, I got angry at my Self. I’ve spent SSOO much time and emotional energy ensuring I was available for my children, grandchildren, and family so they got what they wanted or needed… sometimes at the expense of my happiness… I didn’t have a flip’n clue what I wanted. Listen as I my Divine Allies guide me through an inner Sankofa Journey into my past to retrieve valuable information I forgot to bring forward into my life.
Confessions of a Wounded Messenger
2022/05/18
Someone recently said to me, “Pennie, things will change for you when you decide to be ALL IN.” Hell… I thought I WAS all in, but recent events proved that I WAS NOT. So join me in this episode as I discuss how my Divine Allies pointed out how my self-sabotaging behaviors have become so cleverly disguised… to the point that I think I’m ALL IN... But all I’ve done is grasp for other things and people to avoid genuinely taking responsibility for my divine calling.
Cultivate a NEW Year: Name Your SELF and Live with INTENTION
2022/01/10
The start of a new year is when the collective energies of self-reflection are at their peak. Across the world, we take a moment to reflect on our past life choices and actions. While this awareness is often fleeting… the concept of a new year inspires us to think about making meaningful changes in our life. So, we make “resolutions” in hopes of changing the course of our life's path in the New Year. But resolutions alone have never really been enough to resolve or change the lingering residue of our past personal or social challenges. In this episode, Dr. Murray shares the importance of making meaningful changes through INTENTIONS ― instead of resolutions. But to do that, we have to name our Sacred Expressive Life Force (SELF) and then, with intention... take responsibility for cultivating a mindset and environment worthy of that name.
Confess - Conflict of a Man w/Daryl French
2021/10/31
with guest: Daryl French Without a doubt, there are men who love and support black women. But their voices are often silent or nothing more than a whisper against the louder noises out here that disgrace us—and do damnable violence to our emotional psychic. In the European Christian Bible, Matthew 5:24 urges us to FIRST make amends with those we have caused harm to, and then we can offer our gifts of gratitude and thankfulness. So this episode of SVNC features a black male spoken word artist that goes by the name of D-Frenchieee… And he’s doing some self-reflection on how he has related to Black women. Through his poetry, he’s making amends, finding strength in his vulnerability, and giving his SELF permission to heal the “OUCH” within his feeling state.  If you want to follow Daryl’s self-reflective journey you can find him on Instagram @ d_frenchieee  #thelearningspa #thepowerofselfpermission #SacredEpressiveLifeForce
