Creating an educational system that is accessible to all in Africa to facilitate the training of medical rehabilitation professionals is becoming a priority amongst educators as we join the WHO to adopt a competency-based educational system. With us on this podcast is Michael Rowe, an Associate Professor and the Departmental Chairperson of Physiotherapy at University of Western Cape. He is the co-founder of In Beta, a virtual community of physiotherapy educators, and the founding editor of OpenPhysio, an open access journal with a focus on physiotherapy education. Nigeria is the largest black nation globally, with a current population estimated to be over 200 million. Nigeria is ranked the second-highest in road accidents and other emergencies(death and disabilities) among 193 countries of the world. Lagos is the only one with an organized state-run emergency medical service and a working public safety answering point/emergency communication centre of all the states in Nigeria.  In this episode, we are joined by Mr Charles Chiagoziem, a clinical prosthetist and orthotist who has focused on delivering ambulance services through his company (hiblance.com). We discuss the current state of emergency services in Nigeria and the need to standardize these services with the available competency framework provided by the WHO.  

World hearing day is an annual global advocacy event that aims to raise awareness on hearing loss and related issues. As part of our contribution to lend our voices to this awareness campaign, we hosted one of our community members, Benjamin Tetteh Amartey who is a Ghanaian audiologist. We explored the misconceptions of ear care and general conversations around hearing loss.
