ICA member, Inge Handing, and President, Sheila Zaricor-Wilson, discuss Education for Life and the opportunities it presents to the industry. Bio: Inge has been involved in salons since she was 15 years old, starting with an apprenticeship at Bundy and Bundy Salon in Austria. Wanting to see the world and learn English, Inge moved to the United States at 22 and founded Coiffeur Inga Salon (now Salon Inga) in 1988. Inge is motivated by providing superior customer service to her clients through continuous education for herself and her staff. Her involvement in the industry includes being a member of Intercoiffure America/Canada for over 25 years where she also has served on the Board and as Secretary. Inge is also the US Ambassador for Education for Life for Intercoiffure Mondial. In addition, she was a Regional Education Director for Florida with TIGI for 16 years. And, she is a part of the National Cosmetology Association. She was instrumental in implementing the Associate Training Program, an extensive training program for incoming stylists or recent graduates. Inge plans to become more involved in education, as she expands her business. In 2015, the Salon Inga’ brand expanded to include The Barbershop by Salon Inga, a new concept in men’s hair care. Leslie Roste's bio: Leslie Roste, RN, BSN graduated from the University of Kansas, where she studied Nursing and Microbiology. After leaving nursing, she began working in the professional beauty industry as a subject matter expert on infection control and public safety.  She has written many articles and spoken to audiences large and small on infection control and chemical safety in the work environment and specializes in the salon and barber industry.  In 2020, she became the lead grant applicant on the Cosmetology Compact, working with the Department of Defense and Council of State Governments to insure true license mobility for cosmetologists.  Leslie currently works with the CSG on behalf of FBIC on industry forward legislation. Previously, Leslie worked with cosmetology boards in over 30 states on revision of infection control rules and required curriculums consistent with current science and occupational trends.  She has written science content for Milady and currently writes for Pivot Point textbooks. Throughout Covid, she assisted states in developing re-opening guidelines and offered education in all virtual formats to help states re-open.  She is a national exam item writer and participates in the Safe Nevada project as well as the Department of Labor Occupational Licensing Consortium.

Millie's Bio: Millie Katzen is a Certified Radio Marketing and Digital Expert, who has been in advertising for over 42 years. She has worked in markets including Albuquerque, Memphis, and Chicago. She is currently the Key Account Manager for Cumulus Media in Memphis. Millie has worked with local and national advertisers, but particularly loves to help local advertisers grow their business, through educating them on the benefits of radio and how utilizing digital can take them to the next level in marketing their business. About Hans Burkert: Born in Chicago in 1965 to a German immigrant father and a first generation mother of Polish and Sicilian descent. I had a great grandfather and grandfather that were barbers as well as an aunt that was a cosmetologist so I had the opportunity to grow up experiencing this great industry first hand. It was always a wonderful display of ones creativity and artistic abilities. This also allowed me to see what a great career and business it is. As I started my beauty school education I also started taking business classes at a local college. But I have to say that the most important and incredible education I received was working for both Franco and Mario Tricoci, I feel I learned the most real knowledge of this industry from them. It was the best experience anyone could have asked for.
