Adrian Jugdoyal, Senior Lecturer, University of Middlesex, speaks with Kate Jack, Advanced Virology Nurse Specialist, Nottingham University Trust, about the hepatitis C virus (HCV). They discuss the history of HCV, including its links to health inequalities and advances in how it is treated. The conversation also cover progress toward elimination of HCV as a major threat, with a focus on Kate’s work on the uptake of HCV testing among people in prison.

The ways in which language affects how stoma care nurses interact with patients and colleagues is the subject of a conversation between Jennie Burch (St Mark’s Hospital, London), Anna Boyles (King’s College Hospital, London), Carolyn Swash (Hollister) and Benjamin Wakefield (Stomatips and Gastrointestinal Nursing), first broadcast at the 8th National Gastrointestinal Nursing Conference 2021.

Pancreatitis, a condition characterised by inflammation of the pancreas, is explored from the perspectives of both the people living with this condition and the nurses and charities who are there to support them. Stacey Munnelly and Alex Gaskell, Advanced Nurse Practitioners at Manchester University, discuss the pathology, presentation and management of pancreatitis. Jenny Holdsworth of Guts UK explains how the charity supports people with digestive disorders and interviews patients Ray Snow and Rob MacKenzie about their experiences of living with pancreatitis.

Sheila King speaks with Aine McCooey, Oonagh Staunton and Angela Mullen, clinical nurse specialists at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, specialising in GI cancers and inflammatory bowel disease, about their experiences of delivering care to patients and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic

Gerri Mortimore, Senior Lecturer at the University of Derby, discusses genetic haemochromatosis, or iron overload disorder, covering its prevalence and symptoms, as well as how it can be diagnosed and treated.
