Ryan Chapman, Carson Field and Ryan Aber looked back on the week’s press conferences, which included some odd explanations of the Ryan Fodje situation, vocal support for quarterback John Mateer and an emphasis on forcing turnovers from the OU defense.  Will any of that be enough to get back on track if the injury situation doesn’t improve? And who will be in action for the Bulldogs, who are enduring their own injury struggles on offense? Sooners On SI's Ryan Chapman, Carson Field, Ryan Aber and Brady Trantham present episode 380 of the Sooners On SI Podcast. Just a week after a euphoric win over Texas, the guys dive into what went wrong Saturday night in Norman against the vaunted Kentucky Wildcats. But we're not talking basketball here. UK's trying to grow a respectable football program, and they just took another step by winning their fifth straight contest -- and outplaying blue blood Oklahoma to boot. The Sooners showed signs of real improvement on offense -- four drives of 10 plays or more; outgained UK by 116 yards on offense -- but also reverted back to some of their old ways, with questionable coaching decisions at just the wrong time and, ultimately, FOUR interceptions, three by John Mateer. OU's defense was solid except when it had to be. Kentucky was the better team as the Sooners fell to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in SEC play. At the midway point of the season, OU is all but eliminated from playoff contention and any pipe dream they may have had about the SEC title game. Can this OU squad even win six games this year and get to a lowly bowl game? Or will Brent Venables' latest iteration of OU football break that streak, too? The podcast crew — John Hoover, Ryan Chapman, Carson Field and Ryan Aber — returned to put a bow on the Texas win before flipping the page to Kentucky.  Is Oklahoma’s leadership in a better spot than the last time the Sooners knocked off the ‘Horns to prevent a major letdown? And will the OU offense get a boost — both in confidence and with returning personnel — to try and make necessary improvements for the back half of the season? Then the guys turned their attention to the other side of the ball, where the Sooners’ defense will reunite with some familiar faces in one of the matchups to watch for the weekend.  Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Oklahoma Sooners On SI's Ryan Chapman, Carson Field, Ryan Aber and Brady Trantham present episode 378 of the Sooners On SI Podcast, a full postgame recap of OU's 27-24 victory over the No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns. The Sooners started with five straight three-and-outs and had just one (1) rushing yard at halftime, but then got touchdowns on special teams and defense before the offense finally got involved. OU outscored the Horns 20-7 in the second half, with embattled QB John Mateer making two huge throws down the stretch, wideout Isaiah Sategna somehow coming down with a pair of sideline catches, and kicker Tate Sandell knocking through the game-winner at the buzzer. The Sooners On SI crew had four staffers in the stadium. Check out their work from Saturday and every day at OklahomaSoonersOnSI.com. The pod crew — John Hoover, Ryan Chapman, Carson Field and Ryan Aber — returned for Texas week.  Oklahoma coach Brent Venables minced no words when reviewing the performance of both the offensive line and Bill Bedenbaugh, will it result in an improved performance up front? And can quarterback John Mateer take care of the football in the Cotton Bowl? If all of that falls into place, will the Sooners have enough on defense to contain the Texas offense? The guys got into all of that and more ahead of the 2026 Red River Rivalry. Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Sooners On SI's John Hoover, Ryan Chapman, Carson Field and Ryan Aber present episode 376 of the Sooners On SI Podcast. Georgia booted us out of the press box, so we drove home and took a couple days to reassess the game. It was just as bad as we thought. Most of the conversation centers on QB John Mateer and the putrid OU offense, with plenty of breakdown of the OU run game, wide receivers, running backs, offensive line and, of course, coaching. Then we dive into the defense and how the Sooners essentially almost shut down the Bulldogs but ultimately couldn't withstand both Georgia and the mistakes of the OU offense. Texas is up next, so Oklahoma doesn't have much time to get things turned around. But the team discussed some solutions and some suggestions.
