76: A Ref With No Cards
2026/10/21
Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. Sammy Steuerwald continues to score screamers, the men finally won a game, and we're talking about yet another shitstorm surrounding the club. The more things change the more they stay the same. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. However Conny, Don, & Kyle are still on twitter in a personal capacity and you can also contact Kyle on Bluesky here. And the updated website is available at union-berlin.com Thanks as always to Die Wallerts for the intro, to you for listening! UNVEU
75: Never Tested

Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. We thought Schalke was bad, and then we went to Munich. On the other hand, the Women have found a way to win some games (and another since recording!) If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. 74: I Smoked Pot, But I Didn't Inhale It
2026/09/10
Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. While the league seasons got underway since our last episode, one of the biggest events in the Union Berlin calendar, the Mitgliederversammlung (or AGM in English) also took place. Unfortunately that's left us with yet more stadium delays, and another, to use that great Denglish word, shitstorm, from the Supervisory Board elections. Das ist alles von der Kunstfreiheit gedeckt. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. 73: Season Preview 26/27
2026/08/27
Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. It's a new season, with new coaches at the helm of both 1. FC Union Berlin sides as they embark on their respective Bundesliga seasons. Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back to dissect the Women's defeat to Bayern in the Frauen-Bundesliga's curtain-raiser in front of over 17,000 spectators, as well as the men's win over Eintracht Braunschweig in the first round of the DFB-Pokal before looking ahead to the new season. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. 72: Season Review 2025/2026
2026/05/27
*Apologies again this is a few days later than planned. As you may hear, there's been a bit of an issue with the recording. I've done my best to fix it, but unfortunately some chat is already out of date. I'll spend the summer break finding a new provider! Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. Marie-Louise Eta's 1. FC Union Berlin side ended the season in style with the biggest home win since 2020 against an Augsburg side that were chasing Europe. We look back on this and the season as a whole for the men and the women, as history was often made on and off the park. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. 71: Loui Makes History
2026/05/16
*Apologies this is a few days later than planned. We'll be back next week with Augsburg/Frankfurt reaction and our end of season review. Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. Marie-Louise Eta made history as her 1. FC Union Berlin side picked up a late point at home to Köln before a stunning 3-1 win away to Urs Fischer's Mainz side thus becoming the first women to coach a side to victory in the men's top 5 European leagues. The women also secured the Klassenerhalt with a huge 1-0 win away to HSV, ensuring that both sides will be playing top flight football in the final season at the Alte Försterei before it's redeveloped. The Women's game against Frankfurt (17.5 @ 14:00 Berlin time) is available in many territories (including UK, IRE, US, CAN) for free via DAZN (UK link). Search for the Frauen-Bundesliga and it will pop up. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. 70: Lia Kamber Fan Club
2026/04/29
Mark, Bas, Conny, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. While it wasn't quite the fairytale outcome for Marie-Louise Eta and 1. FC Union Berlin against Wolfsburg and the construct, at least in the former there was some positive signs for the men's side. The women returned from international duty with a superb fight against UWCL semi-finalists Bayern, falling to a 3-2 defeat after a late goal. We chat these games, and a conversation on the state of the Bundesliga generally. The Women's game against HSV (1.5 @ 15:00 Berlin time) & Hoffenheim (10.5 @ 16:00 Berlin time) is available in many territories (including UK, IRE, US, CAN) for free via DAZN (UK link). Search for the Frauen-Bundesliga and it will pop up. The men's game against the Mainz (10.5 @ 19:30 Berlin time) is on Amazon Prime (PPV) in the UK and free on the Bundesliga App in Ireland. 69: The Best Person For The Job
2026/04/13
Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. 1. FC Union Berlin shattered the glass ceiling at 23:55 on Saturday evening announcing that u19's coach Marie-Louise Eta was to take charge of the men's side until the end of the season. Though as we discuss, the glass ceiling may have only existed outside the club as it won't be Loui's first time in charge of the side when she walks out to a roar of "FUßBALLGOTTIN" come 15:30 this Saturday. We discuss this managerial change, the fall of Steffen Baumgart and a crazy game as the women secured the Klassenerhalt with a 3-3 draw away to Wolfsburg. The Women's game against Bayern (22.4 @ 18:00 Berlin time) is available in many territories (including UK, IRE, US, CAN) for free via DAZN (UK link). Search for the Frauen-Bundesliga and it will pop up. The men's game against the Construct (24.4 @ 20:30 Berlin time) is a Friday game so is free on the BBC in the UK and YouTube/Bundesliga app in Ireland. 68: What's the English for Rückrundentabelle and Laufleistung?
2026/03/24
Mark, Bas, Conny, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. The men and the women of 1. FC Union Berlin both picked up big (and perhaps unexpected) wins in the last fortnight with the Luckypunch of the men in Freiburg followed by the 4-1 hammering of Werder Bremen for the women. We talk about those games, as well as the defeat in Munich before in the spirit of podcast (and group) co-founder Cherrie we spend 10 minutes talking about Laufleistung. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. Whilst we get around to sorting out a Bluesky account, you can contact producer/contributor Kyle on Bluesky here. Thanks as always to Die Wallerts for the intro, to you for listening! UNVEU
67: And Then The Football Happened
2026/03/10
Mark, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. You wouldn't think we'd finally won a game in 2026 on the basis of this episode, but the tremendous result against Leverkusen for 1. FC Union Berlin was followed up by two stinkers against Mönchengladbach and Bremen. Those results have not just brought us back down to earth, but leave us staring at a relegation battle we thought we'd left behind at Christmas. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. Whilst we get around to sorting out a Bluesky account, you can contact producer/contributor Kyle on Bluesky here. 66: Horrible in Hamburg
2026/02/19
Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. There hasn't been much to shout about on the pitch for the men of 1. FC Union Berlin, so we instead shout about the clear issues with our recent performances. We talk about the worst misses we've seen as we deem Ilic's miss against HSV not to be as bad as Iwelumo, Rosenthal, and Hoffmann. We also look at the last few games for the Women, as it was announced that head coach Ailien Poese will move back to working with the academy at the end of this season. PSA: The women's game against Köln on 20.2 is free to watch in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada among others via DAZN. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. 65: Not In Our Name
2026/01/30
Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. The last three games for the men take a bit of a backseat, as depressingly, friends of ours were subject to a racially motivated attack at what's supposed to be an 'union' boozer following the Dortmund game. However, we're not going to let racists ruin our enjoyment of this club, as we give our own 6-a-side legends team after the club released theirs last week. PSA: The women's game against Freiburg on 14.2 is free to watch in the UK via DAZN. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. 64: State of the Union
2026/01/14
Mark, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. The lights are off, the trees are down and Urs was back in town. We reflect on a late winner in Köln followed by another late effort to snatch a draw in Urs Fischer's return as Mainz visited the AF. We also look at a positive winter for the Women's side. With a nod to them in our podcast title this week, we pay tribute to a stalwart of the Union-podcast-cosmos as Sebastian of Textilvergehen bows out after seventeen (17!) years of podcasting about our wonderful club. If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. 63: If You Could Marry A Cross
2025/12/22
Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. What was a few tough weeks for the men and women of 1. FC Union Berlin was thankfully ended with some strong results just before we recorded. A win against the marketing construct for the men, and a battling draw against Eintracht Frankfurt for the women. We discuss what got us to those points, but celebrate some corners hopefully being turned (those listening will hopefully feel that after a strong weekend while this podcast was being edited) If you want to get in contact with us, Spotify listeners can drop a comment on the episode below. The twitter is here, but none of us have checked it in a while for * reasons *. Whilst we get around to sorting out a Bluesky account, you can contact producer/contributor Kyle on Bluesky here. Thanks as always to Die Wallerts for the intro, to you for listening! All the very best to you and yours for the festive season and we'll see you again in the new year. UNVEU
62: Soulless Ghouls
2025/12/04
*Apologies for the publishing a week later than planned, this was due to a technical issue with the recording, I've done what I can to make sure it doesn't sound as terrible as it once did! We'll cover Heidenheim and the Pokal exit when we're back in a fortnight.* Mark, Bas, Conny, Don, & Kyle are back for this episode of Mattuschka's Right Peg. Four points was a healthy return from the last two fixtures for the men. A gritty win in Hamburg against St. Pauli followed a stellar performance against Bayern, with a 0.5mm VAR intervention being the difference between winning and drawing. Unfortunately for the women, through no lack of effort, the injuries continue to mount up and the struggles have continued. Which among other results, included an exit from the DFB-Pokal Frauen. This all pales in comparison to our top story, and it won't be the last time you're hearing about it from Don and Kyle! UNVEU
