I Pretended I Didn't Want Children to Protect Myself, with RH Mnati
2022/04/19
Picture this...you have reached an age that you and everyone around you thought you'd be married with kids already.  You have convinced yourself that you are happy single and successful with your career.  You are truly happy and have an awesome career.  Did you ever access why you feel the way you do about marriage and kids?  It is okay to not want either, if that is true, but if you really want a child...you better check yourself before you wreck yourself. In today's episode, RH Mnati tells us about her experience.  She pretended she didn't want kids to protect herself. She met her husband at 37 and actually made comments that she didn't want children.  Without knowing whether or not she could even bear children, she had the fear that she might not be able to. Take a listen to her journey on how she navigated her way to 2 children at age 40!  She resides in DC with her husband who is a stay-at-home dad, with their 2 children. Cesarean Awareness Month: My C-Section Experience
2022/04/12
This month is Cesarean Awareness Month.  Did you know there is actually an organization called International Cesarean Awareness Network? If you didn’t, you’re not alone because I just learned about it too.  This organization’s purpose is to: to improve maternal-child health by reducing preventable cesareans through education support cesarean recovery, and  advocate for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).  In this episode, I shared my c-section story.  I had a planned c-section and fortunately, all went smoothly and almost exactly as written for our birth plan.  I was a candidate for planned c-section from early on because of a previous open abdominal surgery to remove several fibroids.  My story includes: my health leading up to the motherhood, my cesarean experience, and how long it took me to bounce back. After having this experience, I realized that I hadn't actually heard anyone's birth story.  I only heard about the pain from an epidural.  On tv shows (sitcoms) and movies, having the baby at the hospital leaves out a ton of detail too!  If you had a cesarean, write to us and share your thoughts! Something I didn't know is that according to researchers, 50% of cesareans could be safely prevented.  Did you feel pressure to do a cesarean?  Was a cesarean what you wanted?  Did you have enough information?  Was you c-section elective?  Did you have to change doctors?  Were you scared to have a c-section? ******* Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with International Cesarean Awareness Network.  When making a decision, please seek advice from medical professionals.  I am only sharing my experience and not giving any advice. ******** I hope this helped someone today.  If you have any thoughts or comments, I want to hear from you. And if this touched you in any way, please share this with a friend to help inspire another person on their motherhood journey. If you are listening on Apple Podcasts you can leave a review.  I really appreciate you!! You can also find me on IG  @firsttimemomsbeyond35. Again thank you for being here. Give Yourself Grace with Leselle, Full Belly Life Mom Coach
2022/04/05
Leselle started a company called Full Belly Life to help moms live life fully.  She says we need to live out of the fullness of our belly to live the life that we dream. Leselle’s journey includes fibroid removal (UFE) and the success from overcoming that.  She herself became a mom at 43, after being told by her doctor that she likely would not get pregnant on her own.  She was even told that she would likely need donor eggs.  She recalled that in her 30s she had a dream where she saw her own children that looked like her.  For this reason, she knew donor eggs were not going to be included in her path. She got pregnant naturally and had her son at 43.  When she realized that many moms were not enjoying their motherhood journey, she made it her mission to check their hearts to help them enjoy the honor of being a mom.  If the motherload  is overwhelming you, know that you can give yourself grace.  Leselle, shares a few tips on how to ease the stress that can go along with momlife. My heart is full! This episode really is for anyone who is struggling with the motherload. I hope this helped someone today.  Thank you for being here and if this touched you in any way, please share this with a friend to help inspire another person on their motherhood journey. In this episode, I interviewed Kate Vogel, a fitness coach who had her baby at 40 years old.  Becoming a mother can be overwhelming and entering into motherhood for the first time after 40 is another story!  Kate tried to find content to give her the support she needed. Sadly, she wasn’t finding the right information. With a background in health and fitness, she decided to learn more about "advanced maternal age" pregnancy and postpartum.  Kate is now a health coach helping women over 40 become strong and confident in their bodies. Surprise Pregnancy at 46! With Alejandra Schrader
2022/03/01
Alejandra Schrader is an author, plant-based nutrition certified chef, food champion, entrepreneur, and activist based in Los Angeles, CA. She is the author of “The Low-Carbon Cookbook and Action Plan: Reduce Food Waste and Combat Climate Change with 140 Sustainable Plant-Based Recipes” (DK/Penguin Random House, June 2021). Alejandra joined me for a conversation on the First Time Moms Beyond 35 Podcast to talk about her surprise pregnancy at 46!  This is good news for anyone thinking about having a child later in life.  She had previously been told that she was not able to get pregnant and therefore she didn't expect it to be possible.  To her surprise in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, she found out that she was 8 weeks pregnant.  Listen to this segment to hear how and where she figured out that she was pregnant.  She also shared how she surprised her older husband with the news.  We discuss the options of testing for chromosomal abnormalities (chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis).  Then we get into Alejandra's reality of having a baby, writing a book, and being an entrepreneur.  I always like to know how people manage their time. Alejandra is small-business owner and natural born leader.  She has taken on the blessing of motherhood with grace and is so thankful for her miracle. When Faith Takes Over, with Maria
2022/02/15
In this episode I am speaking to Maria, who tried to conceive for 13 years.  Just as she was about to give up and accept her faith, she found out she was pregnant.  She found herself stressed during her pregnancy because she had previously miscarried.  Another layer of worry was added when she was given the news of a 99% chance her baby had trisomy 18 (a condition that causes severe developmental delays).  She was faced with the possibility that she would need to abort the baby.  She stood strong in her faith and faced this news like a warrior.
