8 Signs of Generous Culture
2026/10/22
Generous culture does not always arrive in a gift bag.
Sometimes it looks like clear communication, a useful conversation, a focused meeting, or the freedom to make a decision without waiting for permission.
I have eight signs that your workplace culture is already generous or that you have a strong foundation to build on. These practices are often described as performance skills or personal strengths. But Bob asks listeners to look at what the environment gives people: authority, information, room to learn, useful truth, respect for their time, support, flexibility, and the capacity to keep contributing.
The real test comes when things get difficult. Does your team give one another blame, confusion, and more pressure? Or do people continue offering clarity, trust, support, and opportunities to solve problems together?

Oprah and Jim talk about his process of preparing for his historic ski run after previously attempting the climb twice before. Jim also reflects on the unbelievable tragedies in his life and how he managed his grief. Jim lost his wife and children in a plane crash in 2011, then his partner and fellow famed mountain skier, Hilaree Nelson, died in 2022 in an avalanche right in front of Jim. Academy Award winning filmmaker Jimmy Chin joins the conversation to give his perspective on how he and their film crew prepared to record this extraordinary accomplishment for a new documentary, “Everest, The Other Side.”

7 "Selfish" Things for Generous Culture
2026/10/15
Are you a generous communicator?
Let's explore how communication shapes generous workplace culture. Generous communication is not about proving that you know the most, talking the longest, or sounding the most polished. It is about giving people what they need to understand, participate, contribute, and do great work.
When leaders communicate with gratitude, clarity, curiosity, attention, mindfulness, and respect, people feel seen and invited into the work. That is how communication becomes more than information transfer. It becomes a way to build trust, dignity, and a culture where people can thrive.

The #1 Thing That Will Scale Your Business
2026/10/01
Episode Description
I have to address the exhausting cycle of overthinking:
Replaying conversations, searching for more information, worrying about outcomes, and delaying action until every possible detail feels certain. In a world full of podcasts, videos, social-media posts, AI tools, and endless advice, more information can actually create more mental clutter.
The path forward is not necessarily more thinking. It is a pause, a clearer focus on what you can control, practical action, grace for mistakes, and a willingness to use your gifts and skills for the good of other people.
Generosity is part of getting unstuck because it shifts attention away from self-focused rumination and toward meaningful contribution.

Movement is Generous
2026/09/03
We are too static in today's world.
In this episode, I explain why movement is a generous leadership practice, not simply a fitness goal or productivity trick.
When our bodies and minds stay stuck behind screens, desks, and nonstop calendars, we become less available for communication, interaction, and connection. A generous workplace culture makes room for people to move, reset, think clearly, and show up better for one another.
Movement supports the mind, the body, and the relationships that make generous culture possible.

How to Be Taken Generously
2026/08/27
This episode is about how to truly make new hires feel welcome, going far beyond a friendly greeting.
I break down the common onboarding practices most organizations already do, the well-intentioned mistakes that quietly undermine new hires, and the three levels of welcome that determine whether someone feels like a processed employee or a necessary contributor from day one.
The generosity twist here is that anyone in an organization, not just leaders or HR, can create the kind of welcome that makes someone feel uniquely valuable. That is what builds a truly generous workplace culture, and it is something I have experienced firsthand in my own career.

How to Not Lead Too Much
2026/08/13
This episode is about the hidden danger of leading too much.
I want you to understand that generous leadership is not about pushing people harder, solving everything for them, or controlling every outcome. It is about creating space for people to think, grow, and contribute in a way that strengthens both the individual and the culture.
I open with a story from early in my career about a leader who said, "I don't know. What do you think?" That moment was powerful because it showed me that my opinion mattered, and it gave me room to learn how to think through a situation for myself. That kind of leadership is generous because it develops people instead of just directing them.

Generosity Travels
2026/08/06
This episode is about how generosity travels, not just as a business idea, but as a deeply human way of living.
I want you to think beyond workplace culture and consider how generosity moves through people, relationships, generations, and even across cultures. What begins as a personal act can ripple outward in ways that shape families, communities, and organizations.
I also wanted to take a step back and talk about the roots of the word itself. Generosity has always carried a sense of nobility and goodness, and I think that matters because it reminds us that generosity is not just about giving things away. It is about character, honor, and the kind of person we are becoming.

This is Better than the Best Technology
2026/07/30
This episode is about people over technology…
…and the role technology should play in a generous workplace culture. I want you to understand that technology should help people become better, not make them feel replaceable. If a tool weakens trust, ownership, or human value, then it's not serving the culture the way it should.
I also talk about the fear people feel around technology, especially AI. Some people rush to use it because they feel pressure, and others fear it will replace them. My point is that the best use of technology is not just efficiency or output. It is human improvement, because better people always create a better company.

EP #316 How to Have the Best One-on-ones
2026/07/23
I want to talk about the shift that happens when someone moves from being rewarded for being right to being trusted to lead.
That is a real transition, and it changes the way you use your strengths, your communication, and your judgment. The goal is not to become less capable. The goal is to become more useful to the people around you.
A lot of high performers get promoted because they know the answer, move quickly, and stay precise. But leadership asks for something different. In leadership, generosity shows up when you use your knowledge to help people grow, make decisions, and move forward with confidence.
