Political Noise Is Ruining Ads And Entertainment
2026/10/21
Political season has a way of turning daily life into a constant interruption. I’m staring down the midterm elections and I’m just done with the noise: the junk mail piles, the YouTube ads every few minutes, the endless rallies, and the feeling that millions of dollars are being burned to manipulate us instead of helping the communities politicians claim to serve. So I get into what’s actually driving the anger and why so many of us feel like we’re being marketed to, not led. Then I pitch an idea I can’t shake: what if campaign money had to produce measurable good during the campaign itself? No more buying your vote through ads and endorsements. Put the budget on the table, tie it to a cause, and let the public watch whether a candidate can execute before we hand them power. Call it a trial run, an internship, whatever you want. I just want results to matter more than slogans. From there, I go after something that’s been ruining our escapes: politics invading entertainment. If I’m paying for a concert ticket or showing up for a game, I’m not signing up for a lecture or a power trip. I talk about why celebrity opinions don’t move me, why fans have every right to push back, and how this plays out in sports activism debates, including the WNBA and national anthem controversy. I also get into the way boycotts and consumer choices hit brands, using Nike and the “go woke go broke” conversation as a real-world example. If you’re feeling that same burnout, hit play, share it with a friend who’s fed up, and then subscribe, leave a review, and tell me where you draw the line between politics and entertainment. What If a challenging Week Is Proof You’re Winning?
2026/10/14
Somebody showed up at our biggest event of the year and started selling “Loud Proud American” like it was theirs. Same name, copied logo, cheaper knockoff sweatshirts and it was happening just a few roads away from our booth at the Fryeburg Fair. I break down exactly how we found out, what I said when I confronted them, and why protecting your brand isn’t just about ego, it’s about protecting your reputation when customers think the fake product is you.  Before we even get there, I take you behind the scenes of what it really takes to survive a major fair as a small business without a storefront: towing the camper, vehicle problems, long days, and the village of friends and family who make the whole thing possible. We talk about that post event crash, the need for a factory reset, and how I deal with pressure when I’m staring at year over year numbers and feeling the weight of expectations.  Then we hit the stuff that matters more than sales. The moments with my daughter on the golf cart, watching helicopters take off, and having a simple conversation that reminds me why I chase this life in the first place. And even with all the chaos, we still hit a massive milestone: an all time high sales year for Loud Proud American.  If you’re building a business, grinding through a hard season, or trying to turn frustration into fuel, hit play. Who Keeps Your Dream Moving?
2026/10/07
A truck that’s supposed to tow the camper dies right before the Fryeburg Fair and suddenly everything is on the line: the booth, the inventory, the week’s income, and the mental stamina it takes to keep showing up. We’re recording on the fly from the Loud Proud American tour bus, talking through the real logistics of vendor life, the stress of last-minute fixes, and how one small mistake accidentally led to the best fair upgrade possible: a rented golf cart that saves our feet and our time. The turning point comes from community. When I finally admit I need help, a devoted listener and friend, Doug Stimpson, doesn’t hesitate. He hooks up to the camper, drops his plans, and gets us to the fair safe and sound. That kind of loyalty hits deep, and it opens up a bigger conversation about pride, asking for help, and the quiet ways friends and family hold up a small business. We also unpack the pressure of a slow start, how comparing sales to past years can wreck your mood, and what it looks like to choose a better mindset in real time. Then we do something we’ve never done before: I peer pressure my mom into joining the podcast while we’re bouncing across the fairgrounds on a freezing night. We talk honestly about what it’s like working fairs together, how we “ride the waves” when money is tight, and the little comforts that keep morale alive, from warm cookies to prayer. If you care about Made in USA products, American manufacturing, small business grit, and the messy human side of chasing a dream, hit play, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find the show. Don't Be Discouraged By The Distance
2026/09/30
A dead truck on the side of the road, a tractor tow in pouring rain, a heat press that will not climb past 260 degrees, and a fair deadline that does not care how tired you are. That is the reality we’re sitting in today as we prep Loud Proud American for the Freiburg Fair and try to keep production moving when the plan falls apart. We walk you through the whole chain of events, from the first signs something is wrong with the Yukon to the hard truth that not every shop has the time or equipment to rescue you on your schedule. Along the way, we talk small business stress, event logistics, supply chain delays, and what it feels like when your to-do list becomes suffocating. If you’ve ever run a brand, worked a side hustle, or chased a goal with real financial pressure behind it, you’ll recognize this kind of day. Then the focus shifts from problems to posture. A friend steps in with support and ideas, my family helps shoulder the load, and a message on the radio lands like it was written for this exact moment: don’t be discouraged by the distance between you and your dreams. We dig into faith, resilience, and the practical mindset moves that turn “I can’t” into “What’s my next play,” while keeping the bigger why front and center. If this helped you breathe a little easier, subscribe, share it with someone who’s grinding right now, and leave a review so more people can find the show. A Midlife Reset Built On Gratitude
2026/09/23
Turning 44 isn’t a punchline for me. It’s a line in the sand. I’m looking back at the years that shaped me while looking forward with a different kind of urgency—the kind that shows up when you realize you might already be past the halfway point of your life. That thought could make you spiral. For me, it’s turned into gratitude, faith, and a clearer picture of what actually matters when the noise fades out. In this episode, I talk about why I matured late, why I chose to become a father later in life, and how that timing changed everything. I share stories from birthdays past that are equal parts funny and brutal—including the kind of partying that can land you in the hospital—and then the hard contrast of what a “perfect” birthday looks like now: quiet time with my wife and little girl, cartoons, and celebrating potty training like it’s the biggest win on earth. Because somewhere along the way, your definition of a good life changes. We also dig into redefining success. I’m done letting success mean stuff, status, or constantly chasing the next thing. For me, it’s faith, family, and freedom—the freedom to be present, build security, and create the kind of experiences that become lifelong memories. Along the way, I talk about grief, loss, the struggles I’ve lived through, and how those experiences gave me perspective and a deeper drive to fulfill my purpose. If you’ve been thinking about getting older, gratitude, fatherhood, mental health, faith, or what a meaningful life actually looks like, come hang with us. This is 44. This is the reset. And this is gratitude. Subscribe, share this episode with someone who needs to hear it, and leave a review to help more people find Share the Struggle Podcast. What Happened To The Unity We Once Had
2026/09/16
Twenty-five years can soften details or sharpen them, and for me 9/11 does both. I go back to September 11, 2001 and tell you what I still remember clearly: waking up to the TV, the fear that spread through ordinary phone calls, and the way strangers gathered in candlelight vigils and ended up singing Amazing Grace together. That memory isn’t nostalgia for its own sake. It’s a measuring stick for what unity looked like when politics didn’t matter and neighbors did.  Before I get heavy, I also pull back the curtain on real life: preparing Loud Proud American for the Freiburg Fair, the biggest event we do. That means made in USA inventory planning, reordering graphics, stretching cash flow, and trying to make smart marketing moves without mortgaging the future. I talk about the growing pains that come with a lifestyle brand that’s expanding, and the tension of chasing big goals while still trying to be present as a husband and a first-time dad.  Then we zoom back out to the bigger question: what happened to the patriotism and togetherness so many of us felt after 9/11, and why does the country feel more divided now than ever? I connect that to COVID as another factory reset moment, how quickly good habits die, and why homeschooling has surged as parents push back on narratives they don’t trust. I end where I think the foundation still lives: God, family, and country, plus the choice to grow through struggle instead of just going through it.  If this hits home, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find the conversation. We Cannot Keep Excusing Violence As Illness
2026/09/09
The fair ends, the camper finally gets quiet, and that’s when the real recap starts. We’re coming off the Windsor Fair run on fumes, talking through what it’s like to bounce from location to location just to keep the podcast going and keep the business moving. We share the honest behind-the-scenes of fair season life: long days, short sleep, parenting on the road, and the weird mix of pride and pressure that comes with chasing the biggest event of the year. We also break down why Windsor continues to hit different for us. Loyal customers don’t just buy once, they build tradition, and that kind of community support can carry a small business through slow stretches when other vendors struggle. We talk inventory problems, selling out of the best stuff, trying to restock without a “helper crew,” and the constant math of time, cash flow, and energy. Along the way, we share a few moments that made the week bigger than dollars, including camping with family, reconnecting with relatives, and the small-world connections that remind us how tight a community can be. Then we shift into a raw, opinionated conversation about accountability, sparked by the Clancy trial and the public response around it. We dig into why consequences feel optional in modern culture, how social media fuels unchecked behavior, and why we think “mental illness” gets used as a hall pass in ways that can blur right and wrong. Whether you agree with our take or not, the central question stands: what kind of society are we building if we stop drawing hard lines around harm? What If The Best Wins Come After The Worst Weeks
2026/09/02
We’re back on the Loud Proud American Express, parked for once, recording a late-night campground session at the Windsor Fair. The vibes are calm, but the stories are not. If you’ve ever wondered what life looks like when a small business owner is living on the road, working fairs, chasing better stops, and trying to stay grounded, this one puts you right in the passenger seat. We start with Buffalo road stories that sound made up until you remember fairs bring out every kind of human behavior. A woman literally hides behind our apparel rack to record video because she thinks she just caught her husband cheating at the fair. From there it’s fish-to-the-head chaos, a personal chicken wing record, and the kind of “how is this my life” moments that only happen when you’re running booths, closing late, and squeezing in real life wherever it fits. Then we top it off with an accidental adventure at the new Buffalo Bills stadium: we sneak in for photos, go hunting for the buffalo statues, and realize the gate got locked behind us. It turns into a problem-solving scramble, a security encounter, and one of those stories you’ll be telling for years. Finally, we bring it home to Windsor: record-setting early days, sweatshirts flying off the shelves, and why this fair feels like family from the staff to the vendors to the customers who make us part of their tradition. The heart of the episode is celebrating our daughter’s birthday at the same fair where she was born, and remembering the point of all this hustle in the first place. What If The Struggle Is Building Your Why
2026/08/26
The Erie County Fair is over, and we’re back home with that strange mix of relief, gratitude, and frustration you only get after a long road run. We went in with big goals for Loud Proud American, fought through two straight weeks of travel, and still watched sales fall far short of what we expected. Add in wild storms, shelter-in-place alerts, and a crowd that showed up but didn’t spend, and you get a real-world lesson in how event vending, pop-up retail, and small business cash flow can flip on you fast.  We also talk through what we learned by standing next to serious competition, comparing pricing strategies, and hearing the same message from vendor after vendor: it wasn’t just us. When your booth location turns into a teen hangout after 6 pm, you feel it in your numbers, and you either get bitter or you get better. So we share how we adjusted our selling, how we tried to stay welcoming even when the day dragged, and why completing a million-attendee fair still counts as progress even when it isn’t pretty.  Then the mindset shift hits. “Admit it, but don’t submit to it” becomes the line we’re hanging onto, along with the reminder that it can be UGLY until God lifts you. A surprise highlight comes from the carnival “Fool The Guesser” guy, a masterclass in charisma, humor, humility, and working a crowd in the pouring rain. Watching him sparks a new why for us: building a life where Paisley grows up with the confidence and people skills to handle anything.  If you take something from this, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it. Fairground Reality Check
2026/08/19
A 1.2 million-attendee fair is supposed to be the win you’ve been chasing. So what happens when you finally land the biggest event of your business life and the sales barely move? We’re recording from the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg, New York, walking the campground before the day starts, giving you the unfiltered vendor reality of life on the road with Loud Proud American. We talk through the behind-the-scenes details most people never see: the long fair hours, the heat bouncing off the pavement, the pressure of being placed in an area that hasn’t historically had vendors, and how a crowd full of kids and teens can completely change the buying vibe. We also get painfully specific about the numbers. If you’ve ever run a small business, worked events, or tried to make entrepreneurship work while you’re far from home, you’ll recognize the mental math instantly: food costs, travel costs, inventory, and the brutal moment when an 11-hour day turns into $54 in sales. From there, we shift into the real work: adjusting expectations without quitting, staying honest without spiraling, and remembering that fairs can turn on one strong day. And then, because the fair always delivers chaos, we tell the true story of getting hit in the head with a goldfish in a bathroom and MacGyvering a rescue with paper towels and a water bottle. It’s ridiculous, it’s funny, and it’s somehow the perfect metaphor for doing your best when things get weird. Recording A Podcast On I-90 While Betting On A County Fair
2026/08/12
The highway is loud, the stakes are louder, and we still hit record. We’re rolling south on I-90 in the Proud American Express, headed for the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, New York, and we’re doing it on limited sleep, last-minute repairs, and sheer commitment to keep the podcast streak alive. If you’ve ever tried to build a small business while life keeps moving, you’ll recognize every ounce of this pressure. We talk through the behind-the-scenes reality of preparing for a major vendor event: fixing a bus with expensive parts and tight timing, testing just enough to take the leap, and trusting the people who show up to help when the plan gets heavy. Then we get into the grind of inventory management for an apparel brand, including pushing hundreds of heat-pressed items into stock, launching new products, and trying to get everything organized before stepping onto the fairgrounds. But the real core is mindset. Vendor checklists, insurance requirements, sales tax certificates, tent rules, inspections, and potential fines can spiral into imposter syndrome fast, especially when you feel like you “mortgaged the farm” to take the shot. We say the quiet parts out loud, then walk through how we’re handling the anxiety in real time: focusing on the next right step, leaning on faith, and choosing to grow through the stress instead of just going through it. If this hits home, subscribe, share the episode with a friend building something hard, and leave a review so more people can find these honest conversations. What If The Dream Costs Too Much To Keep
2026/08/05
I’m running on almost no sleep while we race toward the biggest opportunity Loud Proud American has ever had, and I’m not going to sugarcoat how heavy it feels. Between inventory debt, vehicle repairs, and family grief, I’m trying to find the silver lining and keep putting one foot in front of the other.  • juggling early mornings, parenting, and the reality of burnout  • preparing for a massive fair with new vendor requirements and costs  • breaking down why inventory is the hardest part of the apparel business  • explaining the vicious cycle of restocking, cash flow, and credit card pressure  • rebuilding the bus while deadlines slip and parts fail  • sharing a charity booze cruise DJ gig that turns from panic to a career highlight  • reframing discouragement by focusing on what failed at home, not on the road  • making the decision to say goodbye to our family dog  • grounding the whole grind in the life and experiences we’re building for our daughter  Find all things podcast related at www.share the shrugopodcast.com. Who Benefits When A Tragedy Becomes Content
2026/07/29
A small business doesn’t pause just because the world gets loud. We start by pulling back the curtain on what life looks like right now for Loud Proud American: early mornings in Maine, daddy-daughter duties, piles of apparel to press, designs selling out at the worst possible time, and the stress of gambling on inventory before the biggest challenge in brand history, the Erie County Fair. On top of that, we’re rebuilding the bus again after brake and ABS problems, pouring more money into parts and repairs because the road still calls.  Then the tone shifts hard as we talk about the ICE agent involved shooting near my hometown and the protests that followed. I’m not here to pretend I have every confirmed detail, but I am here to call out what I’m watching in real time: media outlets that thrive on gasoline, local politicians chasing attention and votes, and a community getting pulled into chaos that shuts down streets and hurts nearby businesses. If you’ve been trying to understand the Maine protests, the immigration debate, and why national headlines feel engineered, you’ll hear exactly where I stand and why.  We also get into the online backlash my wife took after sharing a post asking why some deaths get riots and others get silence, including the fast jump to calling people “racist” instead of engaging the principle. From there, we talk outside agitators, performative outrage, and what “common sense” looks like when consequences are on the line. I close with the simplest standard I know: equal rights, equal opportunity, equal consequences.  If this hits home, subscribe, share the show with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find the conversation. What If Success Is Mostly Community
2026/07/22
The truck says “Seek Fuel,” the schedule says “Be set up by 8,” and my body says “Go to bed.” That’s the tension running through Episode 315, where I finally answer the cliffhanger questions: did we make it to the show, how did we pull it off, and what did it cost us in sleep, stress, and pride. We’re coming off eight straight weeks on the road as a small business owner, building Loud Proud American one event at a time while trying to keep family life steady. I break down the real logistics people never see: a borrowed trailer that breaks, a last-second axle repair, the loading shuffle, the six-hour haul with a two-year-old, and the brutal math of deadlines, traffic, construction, and fuel. Then the moment hits: the gas light, the wrong exit, and running out of fuel with a trailer in tow. Embarrassing, humbling, and weirdly eye-opening. But the heart of the story isn’t the breakdown, it’s the people. Friends and family step in with skills, time, a place to stay, and even a gas-can rescue that gets us to the fairgrounds. We talk community, faith, gratitude, and why it takes a village not just to raise a kid, but to build a brand. You’ll also hear about Syracuse Nationals results, a private party at the “Lancifer Inn,” and a special connection with country artist Daniel Johnson. If this hits home, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s grinding, and leave a review. What’s the moment you realized you couldn’t do it alone? Running Tight On Time
2026/07/15
Everything is fine until the wheel falls off, the shipment misses the truck, and your calendar has zero open space to fix any of it. We are deep in the real-world grind of small business ownership, where event season does not care if your trailer is broken, your bus is down, or your best-selling sizes are wiped out. I walk you through what it looks like to run an apparel brand on tight timelines, why one vendor weekend can swing your whole month, and how a “make it work” decision can become the only decision. We recap the Ospie Valley Fair from setup to teardown, including the kind of road problems nobody posts about: leaking toilets, overpriced proprietary parts, late dinners from a gas station cooler, and friends who show up at 9:30 pm with tools and solutions. Then we get into the sales reality, too: a record Thursday, slower traffic after that, and how one new race-inspired design plus loyal customers helped us finish the weekend up while most vendors reported being down big. From there, it turns into a hard look at inventory management and shipping delays. I break down how I target new designs to specific events, what happens when I cannot finish a car show design in time for Syracuse Nationals, and how a delayed $4,000 restock order can put the next event at risk. We also touch what it feels like when national news lands in the next town over, and why the attention economy can turn local tension into a spectacle. If you’re building a brand, running a booth, or just trying to keep your life from catching fire, this one is for you. Subscribe, share it with a fellow small business owner, and leave a review with the biggest timeline stress you are dealing with right now.
