The year 2021 was a special one for the newest franchise in the Western Canadian Baseball League, the Sylvan Lake Gulls. It was filled with franchise firsts during a unique season which saw fewer teams but all were stocked with great Canadian talent. The 2022 season will take on a different look for the league and the Gulls as they have been busy during the off-season. Telling stories is what any journalist aims to do and like most endeavors, there are varying degrees as to how well those stories are told. In this episode I have not one, but two excellent story tellers when it comes to digging deep into the history of baseball in Alberta. Ian Wilson and Joe McFarland are co-hosts of the very popular Alberta Dugout Stories The Podcast. They both have a passion for the game and weave a great narrative of stories which would remain hidden if not for their effort. In part one of this podcast we learned how Moe Norman got his first golf clubs, how this documentary got off the ground and how our guest Barry Morrow made a connection to Moe. In this episode we dig a little deeper into the legendary golfer as well as a chilling story about Moe in a hospital.

He was unique-a legend, a person many people revered and at the same time, he was shunned by many because he was so different from them. Moe Norman is a Canadian golf icon and he is the subject of a documentary being pieced together by Barry Morrow. This man has some experience with those who are " different", having co-wrote the script for the movie Rain Man along with another movie, "Bill: On His Own" about a mentally disabled man he knew. Barry has been digging into the Moe Norman story for quite some time and he has plenty to share with us.

The easy question for golfers is what do you have in your bag for clubs? The tricky question is why those clubs-not the brand but instead the type of club. Do you have a full set of 14 from wedge to driver or do you only carry 10 or 12? In this episode we talk with golf and travel writer Ken Van Vechten in California about what should round out your club compliment. We also touch on the PGA and LPGA Tours, as well as the moving of a very popular tournament out of the Coachella Valley .

Training for any sport is tough and training to be an Olympic athlete may be one of the toughest undertakings. The Canadian Sports Institute in Calgary is right beside these men and women as they travel their road to the podium . This episode has the president and CEO of CSI in Calgary, Gary Davies, weighing in on several topics, including how you can help future Olympians and maybe win some coin as well. Rules are made to broken someone once said. In this podcast we talk with a golf rules official who might rephrase that into rules are made to be misunderstood in many cases. He talks about four young accomplished female golfers who made a serious faux pas, some advice about learning the rules and how to become a rules official( go to AlbertaGolf.org and check it out). It's an exciting time over at Lakewood Golf Resort, just north of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Plans are moving forward to expand the decades old course from nine holes to 18. In this episode I talk with Head Professional Scott Bergdahl about the progress being made on the construction and what impact this will have on the golfing public in addition to those who call the resort home for the summer. Just a note about the audio in this episode. I was having some issues with my studio microphone so I had to do a McGyver and make something work-so I did and this is the end result.
