The Disappearing Magic Shop | Why We Need to Keep the Magic Alive
2026/10/16
Are traditional magic shops disappearing? And what happens to the magic community when they're gone? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, magician, inventor and author Vinny Sagoo explores why independent, bricks-and-mortar magic shops are so important — and why we need to support them before it's too late. Vinny takes a nostalgic trip back to his childhood in Glasgow, sharing fond memories of visiting the legendary Tam Shepherd's Trick Shop, run by renowned card magician Roy Walton. With the physical shop now closed, those magical childhood experiences feel more precious than ever. We also shine a spotlight on two fantastic independent UK magic shops: 🪄 Rob Hutchinson Magic Shop at Halls of Ripon — a wonderful place to discover magic, see live demonstrations and find something special, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced magician. 🎩 Merlin's of Wakefield — a much-loved Yorkshire magic shop with over 30 years of history, expert advice, incredible products and a fantastic contribution to the UK magic community through its magic conventions. Discover why visiting a real magic shop offers so much more than simply buying tricks, from personal demonstrations and expert knowledge to friendships, inspiration and keeping the art of magic alive for future generations. Plus, don't miss this week's Mind Burp Challenge: The Magic Shop Mission! Visit an independent magic shop, buy something, learn it and share the magic with three people. How to Get More Creative Ideas | The Power of Randomness
2026/10/06
Where do great ideas actually come from? And could a little bit of randomness help you become more creative? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, I explore how random words, objects, experiences and unexpected connections can take your brain in completely new directions and why some of my best ideas have started with something that seemingly had nothing to do with what I was trying to create. Drawing on my own experience creating hundreds of magic effects, games and products, I share simple techniques you can use when you're stuck for ideas, why you shouldn't judge your ideas too early, and how combining completely unrelated things can sometimes lead to that brilliant “Wait, What?!” moment. I also look at how randomness and unexpected outcomes have influenced creations including Scribble Snap, Mind Waves, Mental Match and Binary Flip, and finish with a simple 5-minute Mind Burp Randomness Challenge you can try yourself. Whether you're an inventor, magician, game designer, entrepreneur, teacher or simply someone who wants to think more creatively, this episode might change the way you look at where ideas come from. Mind Waves: The Self-Working Mind Reading Trick That Feels Impossible
2026/10/01
Can a self-working magic trick really feel like genuine mind reading? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, magician, inventor and Neo Magic creator Vinny Sagoo goes behind the scenes of MIND WAVES, his easy-to-perform mentalism and mind-reading effect using intriguing symbols instead of traditional playing cards. Vinny explores where the idea came from, why simple magic can often create the strongest reactions, the thinking behind using symbols, the importance of letting the performer concentrate on presentation rather than difficult sleight of hand, and how a classic principle can be transformed into something fresh. You'll also hear about the hidden thinking built into Mind Waves, its powerful final kicker and why Vinny loves creating magic that leaves audiences with that all-important: "Wait... WHAT?!" Whether you're a professional magician, hobbyist, mentalist or simply fascinated by magic, creativity and how tricks are invented, this episode is a look inside the creative process behind a modern self-working magic effect. 🌊 FIND OUT MORE ABOUT MIND WAVES: https://www.neomagic.co.uk/product-page/mind-waves 🎩 DISCOVER NEO MAGIC: https://www.neomagic.co.uk/ Mind Waves has received a 95% review from Craig & Ryland Petty on Magic TV and is designed to be easy to perform while delivering a strong visual and mind-reading experience. Why We Overcomplicate Everything | The Power of Simple Ideas
2026/09/30
Why do we make things more complicated than they need to be? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, I explore why some of the best ideas are often the simplest and why creating something simple can actually be incredibly difficult. Drawing on my experience creating magic tricks, games and products, I talk about the idea behind my Easy. Simple. Powerful. philosophy, why we naturally overcomplicate things, and how stripping an idea back can make it much stronger. I also look at creativity, product development, game design and magic, including examples from Mind Burp Games and Neo Magic, and ask a simple question you can apply to almost anything you're working on: What could you remove? Whether you're a magician, game designer, entrepreneur, creator or simply someone who enjoys thinking differently, hopefully this episode gives you a few ideas and maybe a "Wait… what?!" moment along the way. 🎩 Discover my magic, books and ideas: www.neomagic.co.uk 🎲 Discover Mind Burp Games: www.mindburp.co.uk
Why Magic Conventions Aren’t Really About the Magic Tricks Anymore
2026/09/28
What happens when you put a room full of magicians together for the day? Lots of magic, plenty of laughs, old friends, new faces and more than a few Mind Burp moments. In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, I’m chatting about my trip to the LADs Magic Convention in Northampton, catching up with people I’ve known for years, meeting new magicians, and why I still think conventions are such an important part of the magic community. If you love magic, creating things, conventions or simply hearing what goes on behind the scenes, this one’s for you. Why I Love Self-Working Magic
2026/09/24
Does great magic really need difficult sleight of hand? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, I talk about why I’ve always loved self-working magic, clever ideas, hidden maths and simple principles that let you concentrate on what really matters: the experience. I’ll share why I think simple can often be more powerful, how self-working methods have influenced the magic and games I create, and why some of the strongest reactions come from effects that are ridiculously easy to perform. Easy. Simple. Powerful. 🎙️ Hosted by Vinny Sagoo — magician, inventor, author and creator of Mind Burp Games. CHECK OUT THE MAGIC HERE
Where Do Ideas Actually Come From?
2026/09/23
Ever had a completely random idea pop into your head and wondered… where on earth did that come from? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, I dive into the wonderfully weird world of ideas and creativity. Do great ideas really appear from nowhere? Can you actually learn to be more creative? Why do children seem to have endless imagination while adults often overthink everything? And are bad ideas actually more useful than we think? I also chat about my own creative process, why “What if?” might be two of the most powerful words you can ask, and why some of my best ideas seem to arrive when I'm not looking for them. We’ll talk about curiosity, failure, overthinking, ridiculous ideas, inspiration and actually turning thoughts into something real. Plus, I'll give you a simple Mind Burp Challenge to get your own creative juices flowing. Because maybe creative people don't necessarily have better ideas… Maybe they just don't dismiss the ridiculous ones quite so quickly. Vinny
I Turned a Simple Idea Into Something Impossible | The Story of Mental Match
2026/09/23
How does an old idea become something completely new? In this episode of the Mind Burp Podcast, I take you on a journey through Mental Match one of my latest creations and share the story of how it evolved from an earlier effect called Scramble. I talk about where the idea came from, the “What if?” moments that changed it, why I ended up with 17 little tiles, and how one effect eventually became two seemingly impossible predictions. But this episode isn't just about a magic trick. It's about creativity, revisiting old ideas, experimenting, getting things wrong and recognising when there's something worth pursuing. Because sometimes your next great idea isn't a new idea at all… It's an old idea you haven't finished with yet. Expect plenty of magic, creativity, behind-the-scenes thinking and, of course, a few “Wait… WHAT?!” moments along the way. 🤯 🎩 Want to see Mental Match for yourself? Click HERE! Vinny
We’re back… but things are a little different.
