How Healing My Codependency Changed Everything- A Real Conversation With My Husband
2026/04/20
This one is a little different. And a little special. Today I am joined by my husband Rich — the man who has been by my side through all of it. Nearly 34 years together, two recovering alcoholics, kids in addiction, a marriage that almost did not make it, and a healing journey that quietly changed everything between us. We are talking about the new memoir — Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Addiction, Codependency, and People Pleasing — and what Rich experienced reading our story told through my eyes. Rich wrote the foreword before he had even read the book. His willingness to let me share our real story with the world is one of the greatest gifts he has ever given me. Thank you Rich. 🤍 This is a real honest conversation about what actually shifts in a relationship when one person commits to healing their codependency. Not because it fixes anyone else. But because something changes. Quietly, steadily, and profoundly. We talk about anger, intensity, conflict, and the Jenga tower concept that changed how we handle hard moments together. If you are doing this work and wondering whether it will make a difference in your relationships — this episode is for you. 📖 Recover Your Soul — available now on Amazon → https://amzn.to/4sDvKeE An honest review means everything — thank you. 🤍 Send a one way text to Rev Rachel 🦋 The NEW book is here! Anger, Anxiety, and Codependency: What Your Emotions Are Really Telling You — With Dr. Sarah Michaud
2026/04/16
Have you ever noticed that your anxiety spikes right around the same time you are swallowing something you really needed to say? Or that your anger shows up sideways in exhaustion, in depression, in staying busy, in addictions, rather than as the clean, honest emotion it actually is? That is exactly what we dive into in this episode. And I have to say — this conversation felt like sitting down with a kindred spirit. Dr. Sarah Michaud is a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience in addiction and codependency recovery, a memoir and manual author, and someone who has been sober for over 40 years. She is also the co-host of the YouTube channel Leaving Crazy Town with her best friend Finn — where they talk all things recovery with a whole lot of humor and heart. What I love most about Sarah is that she brings her own lived experience right alongside her clinical expertise, and the combination is powerful. In this episode we go deep into the connection between anger, anxiety, and codependency — and why so many of us, especially women, have been taught to dismiss, suppress, and redirect our anger in ways that quietly cost us everything. We talk about the hidden symptoms of anger that nobody recognizes as anger, why our reactions are almost never really about the present moment, and how learning to identify what we actually feel is one of the most radical acts of self-love available to us. In this episode we explore: Why anxiety and anger are so deeply connected — and what is really underneath both The hidden symptoms of unexpressed anger including depression, exhaustion, staying busy, and acting out in addiction Why codependents are often the last to know what they are actually feeling — and how to begin changing that The belief systems formed in childhood that keep us reacting to the present from the wounds of the past Why 99% of the time we are never upset for the reason we think — and what to do with that truth How to begin asking for your needs to be met — starting in low stakes environments — and why the discomfort of new behavior is not a sign it is not working The difference between powerlessness as defeat and powerlessness as the beginning of real strength What it looks like when two people who have done this work finally find a new way to be with each other This is a rich, warm, often funny conversation between two women who have done the deep work — and who are both deeply committed to helping others find their way through. 🤍 Find Dr. Sarah Michaud and the Leaving Crazy Town YouTube channel at https://drsarahmichaud.com/ Everything you need to continue your Recover Your Soul journey is waiting for you at www.recoveryoursoul.net 🤍 And if you have not yet grabbed a copy of the new memoir — Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Addiction, Codependency, and People Pleasing — it is available now on Amazon. Al-Anon Saved My Life- And Then the Recover Your Soul Process Changed Everything
2026/04/13
Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Addiction, Codependency, and People Pleasing is available now on Amazon. If you are listening on launch day — April 13th — please grab your copy today and leave an honest review. It means everything. 🧡 It is book launch day. And I am so grateful you are here. Eight years ago I was two months into sobriety, my family was in chaos, and my teenage son was deep in his addiction. AA was where I got accountable for my drinking. But it was Al-Anon that saved my life. And then something deeper began to unfold. A spiritual awakening that moved through 12 steps, metaphysics, Buddhism, and a completely different perception of what healing actually is. And out of that journey came the Recover Your Soul Nine Step Process, and eventually this spiritual memoir. Thank you Mattie Murrey for being my coach and Collaborator- she can help you write a book too!!! Send a one way text to Rev Rachel 🦋 The NEW book is here! Authenticity, Connection, and the Difference Between Sharing and Processing
2026/04/10
In this Bonus Podcast episode, I’m sharing a very real and recent experience that brought forward a powerful insight around authenticity, vulnerability, and connection. We are being called to show up more authentically than ever. To be open. To be real. To be vulnerable. And yet, there is an important distinction that I am still learning myself… the difference between sharing and processing. In this episode, I walk you through a moment where I found myself processing in a space that was meant for sharing, and how being called out in that experience, while uncomfortable, became a profound opportunity for awareness and growth. Together, we explore what it means to: Understand the difference between sharing and processing Recognize when we may be unintentionally taking up space in a way that disconnects rather than connects Stay present with difficult emotions without collapsing into shame Use challenging moments as invitations for deeper self-awareness and healing This is not about becoming smaller or shutting yourself down. It is about becoming more aware, more aligned, and more intentional in how you show up in your relationships and in your life. This episode is an invitation to continue your Soul Journey with compassion for yourself, to trust that even the uncomfortable moments are part of your growth, and to remember that you are still whole, even when you are learning. We are just a few days away from the Launch Day for the Recover Your Soul Book!!! April 13th 🚀 I am so excited to bring this to you all and hope that it is an offering of deeper healing and awakening as you Recover Your Soul. The book is on Amazon now, however I am asking that you wait (like Christmas) to buy it on April 13th as a Paperback or on Kindle, to help it to be a Best Seller. This, along with an honest review on Amazon will make a huge difference on the long term opportunity for this book to get into the hands of others who may find it helpful in their soul journey of healing. Letting Go of People Pleasing: Stop Betraying Yourself and Choosing Your Authentic Self
2026/04/06
Free Recover Your Soul Mini Workbook — your soul journey starts here: www.recoveryoursoul.net/whatisrecoveryoursoul There is a movement happening right now, and if you have found your way to this community, you are already part of it. A movement away from codependency, people pleasing, and betraying yourself to keep everyone else comfortable. So many of us have spent a lifetime in the supporting role and forming ourselves around what our partners want, what our kids need, what our families expect — without ever asking: who am I, and what do I actually want?  That question is at the center of the Recover Your Soul process. And it is at the heart of my new memoir Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Addiction, Codependency, and People Pleasing — launching April 13th. (Help me to get the book out into the world!! Make this a Best Seller, and then write a review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) We talk about what happens when you begin to disrupt the roles others have come to expect from you, and why the discomfort you feel when you finally choose yourself is not a sign you got it wrong. It is a sign that something real is shifting. This episode is an invitation to get curious. To ask yourself where you are still forming yourself around someone else's approval. And to recognize that choosing yourself — fully, finally — is not selfish. It is the most healing thing you will ever do. 🤍 Send a one way text to Rev Rachel 🦋 The NEW book is here! What Changes When You Stop Trying to Fix Everything- Recover Your Soul Memoir
2026/04/03
You know me well enough by now to know that I am still very much in the middle of this journey alongside you. And this episode feels like such a natural expression of that because I am literally opening up the new book and reading to you from it. Not as a finished, polished teacher who has it all figured out. But as someone who is still learning, still healing, still discovering new layers of what it means to recover your soul. The book launches on April 13th and I am so excited, and honestly a little nervous. But the more people read it and come back to me, the more I feel that this truly is our story. Not just mine. So today I am reading from Chapter Eight — Choosing a New Way to See — and it is the chapter that lives inside Step Seven of the Recover Your Soul process: Aligning With a New Perception. I want to share a real moment from my life that is in this chapter. Rich and my son Bodhi were on their way to go paddle boarding on the river. I was in the truck with them. And things unfolded the way they had unfolded between them for years, the old patterns, the old pain, the old dynamic that I had spent so long trying to fix and smooth over and manage. And this time I did something different. Not because I had it perfectly together. But because the new tools were there. The awareness was there. And something in me was finally ready to just witness instead of intervene. What happened after that, for all three of us is something I never could have controlled or engineered my way into. In this episode we explore: A reading from Chapter Eight of the memoir and what it brought up for me What it actually feels like in your body to witness instead of fix — and why that is so much harder and so much more powerful than anything else we can do Step Seven of the Recover Your Soul process — aligning with a new perception — and why changing how we see something is the most underrated healing tool we have The difference between the love we were taught and the love we are growing into — one that can hold complexity, pain, boundaries, and compassion all at once Why our healing does not happen in a straight line, and why that is exactly as it should be This is the work. The real, honest, sometimes uncomfortable, always worth it work of recovering your soul. And I am so grateful to be doing it with you. 🤍 If you can hold off on purchasing until April 13th and buy on that single day on Amazon it would mean so much as it gives the book a real chance to reach the people who need it most. And an honest review after you read it is one of the most generous things you can offer. Thank you for being here. It Wasn't Your Story to Begin With — Healing Inherited Beliefs With Kristen Swan
2026/03/20
🤍 Ready to begin? Download the free Recover Your Soul Mini Workbook and take your first step toward wholeness: www.recoveryoursoul.net/whatisrecoveryoursoul Have you ever stopped to consider that some of the beliefs you carry most deeply about love, safety, money, relationships, and your own worth were never actually yours to begin with? In this episode I am joined by the wonderful Kristen Swan, spiritual coach, life coach, and creator of two beautiful journaling tools — Spaghetti on the Wall and Heart Mapping — that help people come home to themselves through story, reflection, and feeling. This conversation wandered in the most beautiful ways, and I think you are going to find something in it that lands right where you need it today. Kristen and I have a lot in common. We both grew up as only children navigating unpredictable home environments that taught us early to read the room, manage ourselves, and rely on no one but ourselves to stay safe. And we both found our way, through healing, through curiosity, through a willingness to look at the stories underneath the stories — into a completely different way of living. This is one of those conversations that reminds you that the path to wholeness comes in many different languages. And that at the foundation of all of them is the same truth. Find Kristen Swan and her journals at kristenswan.com 🤍 In this episode we explore: How growing up with a parent whose emotional landscape was unpredictable shapes the stories we tell ourselves about safety, trust, and love and how those stories follow us into adulthood The inherited beliefs passed down through generations — about money, relationships, gender roles, and worthiness — and how we begin to recognize and release them without rejecting where they came from Why feelings are not something to overcome or be afraid of, but invitations to get curious about what is really happening within us The difference between reliving our stories and witnessing them as a loving, non-judgmental observer and why that distinction changes everything How self-reliance and control — while genuinely useful skills can become the very things that keep us from true connection and healing What it means to protect someone's death — and the profound act of love that can be Kristen's Spaghetti on the Wall journal — a daily practice of discernment that helps us notice our patterns without judgment Heart Mapping — a continuous line drawing practice that bypasses the thinking mind and brings us into the wisdom of our heart space Why there is beauty, incredible, real beauty — in the totality of our experience, imperfection and all What I love most about this conversation is the reminder that healing does not require us to reject where we came from. It asks us to get curious about it. To hold it with compassion. To take what was valuable and release what no longer serves us and to keep walking toward the wholeness that has always been ours. Take what resonates. Leave what doesn't. You are not alone — your soul remembers the way. Ready to Recover Your Soul? 🤍 Ready to begin? From Alcoholism and Codependency to Wholeness: The Story Behind My Memoir and Healing journey
2026/03/16
Free Recover Your Soul Mini Workbook 🦋 www.recoveryoursoul.net/whatisrecoveryoursoul Something really big is happening. After more than a year of dedication, vulnerability, late nights, self-doubt, and some of the most profound healing I have ever done, my memoir is almost here. Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Addiction, Codependency, and People Pleasing releases on April 13th, 2026. And this weekend, I held the paperback copy in my hands for the first time and I was elated and excited to have it come to life and share with the world. I cried. Of course I cried. And then I started reading it that night and every limiting belief, every fear, every old story about not being enough, not being worthy, not deserving to be seen, came rushing right back up to meet me. Which, honestly, felt like the most perfect reminder that this work never really ends. It just gets deeper. And more beautiful. In this episode I'm pulling back the curtain on the journey behind this book — what it took to write it, what it brought up in me, and why I made the choices I made about how to tell this story. Because this memoir is not a tell-all. It is not a detailed account of every painful moment. It is something I believe is far more important than that. It is an invitation. To you. To remember your own wholeness. Because here is what I know with everything I am. This book is not about me. It was never about me. From Control to Co-Creation: Trusting Your Higher Power in Times of Uncertainty
2026/03/13
Recover Your Soul Bonus Podcast — Step 4 of the Recover Your Soul Process: Co-Creating with the Higher Power of Your Understanding Thank you for being here. Whether you're a Patreon member, an Apple Podcast subscriber, or joining us on YouTube, your commitment to showing up for yourself in this deeper way means everything to me. This community exists because of you. We are living in a world that feels like a lot right now. So much uncertainty, so much noise, so much breaking down. And for those of us who are recovering control addicts, codependents, and people pleasers, that kind of collective uncertainty can send us right back into the exhausting loop of trying to find the answer and fix everything around us. This week I sat down with Melody Beattie's The Language of Letting Go and opened to the March 13th passage: Clarity and Direction — and it spoke so directly to where so many of us are that I knew we needed to go there together. From that beautiful passage, we move into a real conversation about Step 4 of the Recover Your Soul Process — opening to co-creation with the Higher Power of your understanding. In this episode we explore: Why the answers don't always come on our timeline, and why that is okay The difference between giving your power away to everything happening outside of you versus coming home to the one place your power has always lived What co-creating with your Higher Power actually looks like in practice, not perfectly, but honestly Why your healing matters far beyond your own life and how your healing heals the world How to move from waiting for clarity to trusting that clarity will come The Melody Beattie prayer that closes this episode: "Today, God, help me know that I'm being guided into what's good about life, especially when I feel confused and without direction. Help me trust enough to wait until my mind and vision are clear and consistent. Help me know that clarity will come." Want to go deeper? I Am Married to an Alcoholic: Practicing Detachment and Turning the Attention Back to Yourself
2026/03/09
Free Recover Your Soul Mini Workbook 🦋 www.recoveryoursoul.net/whatisrecoveryoursoul I want to share something with you before you press play on this one. This is a replay from about three and a half years ago, an episode I recorded after a trip to Sayulita, Mexico, where my husband came clean that he had continued to 'dabble' with drinking, even after the profound changes we had both made in our lives with recovery. Going back to edit it brought all of it up again. The grief. The love. The complexity of it. Because here's the truth — Rich did stop drinking the way he had for most of his adult life, and that was real and significant. But over the years he has continued to dabble, and each time he eventually has come clean about it, it has hurt. And at the very same time, I can see that this is his journey to Recover Your Soul. Addiction is a beast that is not easy to tame, especially when someone hasn't fully admitted they are powerless over it. What this trip opened in me was a deeper clarity that working on myself is the only place I have any real power. Not because I don't care but because turning within and finding my own self-love, my own joy, my own healing is the deepest work there is. And it is not selfish. Not even a little bit. If you are loving someone in their addiction right now, this episode is for you. Together, we can do the work that will Recover Your Soul. Send a one way text to Rev Rachel 🦋 The NEW book is here! Stop Playing Small: Detachment, Codependency, and Reclaiming Your Own Path
2026/03/06
In this episode I'm reading from one of my favorite books — Let Go Now by Karen Casey — specifically a passage called Detachment Means No Longer Leading Others' Lives. I opened the book twice and landed on the same page both times. So I knew. This was exactly what we were meant to explore together today. Oh, you beautiful souls. Before we dive in, I just want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being an Apple Podcast Subscriber and for investing, not just in this podcast, but in your own healing journey. Your support is what makes this community possible, and I do not take that lightly. Every single time I sit down to record for you, I feel the importance of that trust and the honor of walking this path together. This one is a good one. I think you're going to get a lot out of it. Because here's what I've come to understand: for so many of us who have spent years deep in codependency and people-pleasing, leading someone else's life didn't feel like a pattern — it felt like love. It felt like purpose. It felt safe. And underneath it all, it was protecting us from the one thing we feared most: being seen, being in front, and being rejected. Have you spent most of your life being the best supporting player you could possibly be for everyone else's story- but feeling the pull to step fully into your own life in a new way? I lived this, and I think it might land somewhere deep in you too. In this episode we explore: What detachment really means and why letting go of leading others' lives is one of the most loving things you will ever do for yourself and the people around you How codependency quietly becomes the story of how to be okay— and why that story keeps us small The moment I recognized my own deep pattern of being the supporting player in my relationships, my work, and even my own healing journey — and what it cost me Why the fear of being in front is often rooted in an old belief that we are not deserving of our own lives How the Recover Your Soul steps, especially Steps Three, Five, and Six, give us a practical, spiritually grounded path to see our patterns, release what no longer serves us, and upgrade the belief systems that have been quietly running the show What it truly means to have a complimentary path with the people we love and showing up in connection without losing ourselves in the process Why right now, at this moment in our collective awakening, we are being called to stop playing small, and what becomes possible when we finally say yes to leading our own lives I share about the relationships and work experiences that blew up in flames before I was willing to look at myself instead of them. About the belief I carried for so long that I wasn't deserving of being in front. And about the oracle card I pulled this very morning that said everything I needed to hear: For goddess sake — quit playing small to make the people around you feel more comfortable. Yes. That. This is your permission slip. Not from me, but from your own soul, which already knows that everything you need is within you. I'm just here to remind you of what is already true. Your life is yours to lead. Your path is yours to walk. And the world needs you - the real, healed, whole, out-in-front you more than it needs one more version of you quietly holding everyone else's journey together. It is time. “Together, we can do the work that will Recover Your Soul.” — Rev Rachel Thank you for being part of this community. Admitted We Are Powerless Over Alcohol: Al-Anon Step One and the Recover Your Soul Process
2026/03/02
Free Recover Your Soul Mini Workbook 🦋 www.recoveryoursoul.net/whatisrecoveryoursoul The most downloaded Recover Your Soul episodes continue to be the ones connected to Al-Anon — and today I'm going back to the roots. I'm reflecting from How Al-Anon Works for Family and Friends of Alcoholics — specifically Al-Anon's First Step — and on how this profound, foundational step lives inside the Recover Your Soul process. Step One: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — and that our lives had become unmanageable. In this episode we explore the First Step of Al-Anon alongside the Recover Your Soul Nine Step Process, including the 3 C's of Al-Anon — you didn't cause it, you can't control it, and you can't cure it — and why these truths are the gateway to real healing. Admitting powerlessness is not defeat. It is the beginning of your freedom. Take what resonates. Leave what doesn't. You are not alone — your soul remembers the way.
