Suleiman Khalil is a Syrian Christian and also a hero. As a mayor of a small Christian village, Suleiman resisted two assaults on his community by ISIS. His actions saved many lives.

Why would the Syrian Islamist regime carry out this injustice? How are other Christians faring today in Syria? Joining us todiscuss all of these topics is Joel Veldkamp. He will share the latest updates on Suleiman, his family and the Christians of Syria.

The Perspectives Course: A Missionary's Caution, with Josh Manley (Encore)
2026/09/21
For years, the Perspectives Course has been a go-to training option for Christians eager to learn about cross-cultural missions. Thousands have been blessed by the insight delivered through the course and its training text, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. Pastors, missions committees, future missionaries and even regular Christians hoping to learn more about God’s heart for the peoples have benefitted.
And while much of Perspectives is wonderful, you should be cautious about certain teachings embedded in the course. So warned Josh Manley, a pastor serving in the United Arab Emirates. Josh joined the Christian Emergency Podcast in this encore episode to highlight his concerns, particularly with Perspective’s favorable treatment of Church Planting Movements.
Church Planting Movements, or CPM, sound amazing. But as Josh pointed out, CPM is a specific methodology that, when looked at closely, may have problems. Is CPM more biblical or pragmatic? What do Christians taking the Perspectives Course need to consider? Listen in and learn as Josh unpacks this important issue, which has already made a profound impact on missions and the Church.

126. Christ or Collapse, with Dr. David Haskell
2026/09/07
What happens to cultures and societies when they depart from Christian standards and norms? Intuitively, we know thatrejecting Christianity leads to troubles, for individuals, churches and even countries. But does the evidence back this intuition?
Joining the Christian Emergency Podcast to answer these questions and more is Dr. David Haskell. The Canadian sociologist serves as a tenured professor at Wilfrid Laurier University. As a biblical Christian, teaching on a public college campus in Canada has proven challenging. Over his years as an academic, he’s studied the sociological data and impact of cultures either embracing or abandoning Christian norms.
The conclusions were clear and compelling. Cultures that follow Christian norms enjoy greater productivity, societal trust, lower crime, and a host of other benefits. The results were so stark, that Professor Haskell abandoned liberal Christianity and embraced a biblical faith.
Dr. Haskell also addresses other important topics, including the impact of mass immigration, Bill C-9 (now known as the Combatting Hate Act since it was formally enacted into law), and the rash of church fires across Canada.

Christian Lessons from Turkish Prisons, with Andrew Brunson (Encore)
2026/08/24
From 2016 to 2018, Andrew Brunson struggled inside Turkish prisons. For the previous 23 years, the American and his wife had served as missionaries with Turkey’s small Christian community. But when he was imprisoned on false charges – and then pondered the very real prospect that he would be separated from his family for the rest of his life – Andrew descended into spiritual crisis.
In today’s episode, Andrew provides a raw look into the emotional turmoil that gripped him behind bars. Doubts and despair haunted him. Silence and sadness assaulted his senses. But God was at work drawing prayer towards the nation of Turkey. As much as he was broken down, Andrew eventually sensed he was being built back up. What was God up to?
Learn what Andrew took away from his prison experience, after his surprise release following a criminal conviction. And discover what he senses is now coming for Christians throughout the west. A dark wave is inbound. Christians must prepare now. Andrew longs to help you prepare to stand no matter how harsh your culture becomes. Tolkien Insights and Christian Wisdom, with C.R. Wiley (Encore)
2026/08/17
How can Christians live joyfully in a wild world? How can you make your home a safe harbor in disturbing times? Believers around the world might take a tip or two from Tom Bombadil, the enigmatic character of J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
Peter Jackson may not have included Tom in his movies, but Tolkien believed he played an important role. C.R. Wiley, pastor and author, agrees. He joined the Christian Emergency Podcast in this encore episode to share revealing insights gleaned from Tom Bombadil’s quirky but powerful example. He exposes nuggets of wisdom buried in this story of hobbits, fellowship, darkness and light.

The Qur’an and the Christian, with Matt Bennett (Encore)
2026/08/10
What should you know about the Qur’an? How do Muslims think and view the world around them? How could a better understanding help when it comes to our relationships with neighbors, our Christian witness and even missions?
In this encore episode, Matt Bennett, a former missionary in the Middle East, joined the Christian Emergency Podcast to answer these questions and more. Now a professor at Cedarville University, Matt shares helpful insights from his book, the Qur’an and the Christian. Matt blends the views of Islamic believers, secular Qur’an scholars and Christian missionaries to craft a very unique perspective. By combining this into one guide, Matt’s work will help equip Christians to share the biblical Gospel with friends and neighbors who follow Islam, no matter where you live.

125. A Missions Movement Ecclesiology, with Wes Watkins
2026/08/03
God is moving in these days. One way He is advancing His gospel is through international Christian missions. If you’vespent any time looking into Christian missions, you’ve likely heard about movements – like Church Planting Movements (CPM) or Disciple Making Movements (DMM).
As exciting as it is to hear of movements of people to Christ, the methodology has been questioned by some in the missions community. What are these movements and why is there controversy? Are movements novel strategies grounded in pragmatism? Or is there a biblical foundation that seeks to foster church networks to remain on the move while discipling new believers?
Joining the Christian Emergency Podcast to answer these questions and more is Wes Watkins, a missionary, seminaryprofessor, writer and missiologist. Wes has served on the missions field under challenging circumstances, and he’s drunk deeply from the intellectual well of missions theology and practice for decades. He offers a theological defense of the movements model. He does so recognizing that it is not perfect, and that other missions strategies and church models are also helpful for the Kingdom.

Three Ways to Prepare for Persecution: Lessons from Christians under Soviet and Chinese Communism (Encore)
2026/07/27
Christians in much of the world today face pressures. Few, however, face anything as intense as those Christians who lived under the first few decades of authoritarian rule in either the Soviet Union or Communist China. At least not yet.
While freedom and opportunity still remains, Christians today would be wise to consider the experiences of Christians under the Soviets and Chinese Communists. Though both situations shared many similarities, they developed in starkly different manners. Why did they differ so much? What lessons can we glean and apply in our own situations? And what cautionary flags can we recognize and avoid?
On this encore episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast, Andy examines a helpful case study of the Christian experience under the Soviets and Chinese. This comparison, produced originally by Nik Ripken in his book The Insanity of Obedience, provides many helpful insights for Christians today.

Christians in the Negative World, with Aaron Renn (Encore)
2026/07/20
Christians in America—even fairly young Christians—can look back over their lives and recognize something has changed. They remember former days when the culture regarded Christians in a favorable light. You were in good standing if you were perceived as a Christian. But then there was a period when it wasn’t necessarily good to be a Christian, but it wasn’t a scarlet letter either. But today, Christians in America perceive a chill in the air—the culture today is actually hostile to Christian faith and principles. What happened?
In this encore episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast, cultural commentator Aaron Renn charts out how the American culture shifted under our feet. This episode will help you better understand these changes, and also how all Christians around the globe today find themselves in a Negative World. The pressure we face may differ in degree of severity, but we are all frowned upon by broader culture when we cling to Christ.

Christianity in Iran, with Mansour Borji (Encore)
2026/07/06
Christianity has exploded inside Iran over recent decades. But that growth has been met by a severe response from the Islamic regime. What is it like to be a Christian in Iran? How does the Gospel of Jesus Christ continue to be proclaimed when the persecution climate is so intense?
Mansour Borji, of Article 18, joins Andy on this episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast to answer these questions and more. Mansour grew up in Iran as an unbeliever, but after hearing the Gospel he gave his life to Christ. As a young Christian under a hostile government, Mansour saw the fallout of persecution decades ago. Since that time, he has sought to train up and champion Christians inside Iran.

How Should Christians Then Live Today? - with Douglas Wilson (Encore)
2026/06/29
Many Christians today recognize that all is not well. There are problems in our communities, our culture and even our churches. But what can biblical Christians do in the face of these challenges?
Douglas Wilson - pastor, theologian, author, serial ministry founder and cultural commentator - joins the Christian Emergency Alliance to answer these questions and more. He shares his thoughts on the most pressing needs for Christians today, and offers sage advice on how to begin thinking holistically. The ability to think in wholes, not parts, is what allows him to often spot trends before others perceive them. He opens up about how you can develop your own capacity for worldview thinking, so you can do the same.
What does Pastor Wilson think is on the horizon for Christians? How will this affect the type of pressures or persecutions Christians can anticipate? What traps lie on the path for biblical Christians, and how can we avoid falling into them? Listen in to this encore episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast to find out.

A Granddaughter of North Korea: Spiritual Legacy, Simple Kindness and Generational Impact, with Faith Cha (Encore)
2026/06/22
Faith Cha’s mother and grandmother fled North Korea for their lives. Miraculously, they survived the violence when many around them did not. Not only did they survive, but God crossed their paths with Christians who helped them.
These believers—normal people of no renown—played huge roles in the lives of these women by small acts of kindness and grace. These blessings not only helped these women fleeing North Korea, but also the next generation. Faith herself was richly blessed by kind Christians who loved and encouraged her as a refugee kid, confused in a strange, new country.
Through this journey and divine interactions, a spiritual legacy was born. In time, Faith and her husband carried forth that spiritual legacy in surprising, but fitting, ways. They crossed the globe to make Christ known to Muslims in Central Asia. And today they help others minister to refugees, just as others once helped her frightened mom and grandma.
Be encouraged. This testimony reminds us that even our smallest acts of kindness can make powerful impacts in the lives of others. God can use them to transform lives, families, communities and even generations.
