014: Using Your Camp Gear for Home Survival
2021/02/26
In the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri, millions of Texans found themselves without safe drinking water, electricity and warmth during below freezing weather. In this episode, we reflect on the creative ways our fellow Texans found to survive by using their camp gear such as propane stoves, sleeping bags, lanterns, and other cold weather gear. The impact of this storm continues to leave its trace on Texas as broken pipes wait for repairs and grocery store shelves remain empty. Once again we are called to help each other through this difficult time. We encourage our listeners to donate to their local food bank. Check our links below for Food Banks in Dallas & Austin, TX. 010: Cozy Up! Dressing for Cold Weather Camping
2020/12/24
Episode Summary:
This week we’re talk’n all about what to wear when cold weather camping from wool vs. cotton to layering and staying safe. While most people understand the concept of layering, it’s certainly nothing to overlook for cold weather camping. Having the right types of fabrics and layers is key to staying warm and dry. Moisture can come from more than just the outdoors with snow and rain. If you end up sweating inside your layers without wearing the right type of fabric, this can actually prevent you from staying warm.
Spiked Wassail Recipe:
½ gallon of apple cider
1 ½ cups of orange juice
⅓ cups of brown sugar
3 tablespoons of honey
⅓ orange (with peel & sliced)
6- 8 whole cloves
1 cup of fresh cranberries
3 sticks of cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of ground ginger
¼ teaspoon of salt
½ small lemon (sliced)
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Spiced whisky or bourbon, optional
In a large pot, combine all ingredients over medium heat until it begins to slightly boil. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 1 hour.

GEAR CHECK:
Mountain Blanket from Kammock.
This fiery orange blanket is a fun one! Not only is it great for sitting by the campfire on a chilly night, it also converts into a poncho! With fleece on the inside and waterproof nylon on the outside, you’ll be dancing around the campsite in it!
