Episode 75: W(h)olistic Women's Health with Dr Monique Brotman, OB/GYN
2022/06/17
I can't wait for you to hear my conversation with Dr Monique Brotman! She's a board certified OB/GYN who goes above and beyond to treat her patients w(h)olistically. I wish I had known her when several of my friends were going through pre/post menopausal issues and needed  support. She guides and supports her patients on women's health issues, delivers babies, performs robotic surgeries, serves as the backup for a group of local midwives and does religious circumcisions for her Jewish community.  Check out these links to learn more about each of her areas of expertise:  Website: Dr Monique Brotman  Article on Robotics: West Sub docs love their robots Midwifery Practice: West Suburban Midwives. It's real fruits and veggies in a capsule or a gummy!  If you are picky about your skincare, you have to try Radical Skincare. Episode 73: Facing Adversity During the Pandemic with Wynne Lacey
2022/03/07
Wynne Lacey is a Mental Health Practitioner and Life Coach in the Chicago area. Like many of her peers, she enjoys utilizing traditional and holistic approaches to improving the mental and emotional health of her clients. Several years ago, she was invited to serve her local community as a member of the Board of Health. She never imagined that her beliefs about health and wellbeing would conflict so severely with her peers and that her seat on the board would be called into question. In this fascinating conversation, we talk about what it’s been like for her to remain steadfast in the face of adversity. I admire her determination and hope she is able to influence the board to embrace opposing points of view. If you would like to connect with Wynne, please reach to her here.  If you'd like to share your story or become a sponsor of this podcast, reach out to me at [email protected]. Episode 68: Art Therapy with Ron Formento, Jr.
2021/11/02
It's pretty amazing to see that as we age, we often come back to things we enjoyed doing as children. It's as if the artist, chef, magician, singer (fill in the blank) within us reemerges to heal and free us.  In this episode, Ron and I talked about why he started painting again and the impact it's having on his health and wellbeing. You will be amazed to hear how he is connecting with friends and strangers to bring about more connection, compassion and joy. If you've been thinking about reigniting a former hobby, now is a great time to get started.  Ron also changed careers in midlife.  It took courage and faith to step away from something he'd dedicated himself to and into a new opportunity. He's thriving in his new role and couldn't be happier.  If you'd like to connect with Ron, visit his website. Check out his blogs and take a look at the beautiful paintings he's done so far.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tamara-ortegel/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tamara-ortegel/support

Episode 66: A Servant's Heart with Nannette Vanderheyden
2021/10/20
It’s not often that you meet someone whose heart for service is so big. Supporting others is like a calling for Nannette. She is always ready to lend a helping hand at church, the food pantry or anywhere she’s needed. She is a proud mother and grandmother, actively involved in helping to raise the next generation. Being a blessing to others is a wonderful thing to do in midlife. If any of you are thinking about getting more involved in your community, I urge you do to so. I’ve also had amazing experiences volunteering at non-profit organizations, attending bible studies and participating in book clubs. Schools are always looking for parents and grandparents who can help out in the classroom or during after school events. Your time and talents are needed, so don’t sit home bored and lonely when you can get out there and join the fun. Episode 65: The Power of Positivity with Ron Hume, Freelance Humanist & Picture Taker
2021/10/14
Ron Hume is well known for his jovial spirit and his giving heart - two very important aspects of his life we cover in this podcast episode. Throughout Ron’s career, he used his time and talents to serve families at risk. Having lost his father at a tender age, he knew what it was like to feel out of control and could relate to his clients who were suffering from substance abuse, housing deficits and many other issues. In 2015 Ron retired as CEO of 360 Youth Services in Naperville. Around that time, he developed a keen interest in photography and decided to share his expertise by taking pictures at galas and other local events. As a former non-profit leader, he knows which photo opportunities to focus on and how to quickly snap a picture and exit the scene. Ron is a wonderful storyteller. I know you’re going to enjoy hearing about his wondrous adventures. You will also be inspired and amazed by the way he dealt with a potentially life threatening health issue.
