Our guest today is Karen Bester. Karen has a degree in nursing and has a specific passion for skin. She has experience in psychiatry, neurosurgery, trauma, ICU and spent three years working as a burns specialist giving her an Advanced wound care speciality. Moving from a purely medical profession into the medical aesthetic field was an incredible opportunity and the start of a brand new journey. Even after 16 years in her current field, she is regularly asked if she misses nursing. While there are certain areas that make her nostalgic for her nursing days, she loves the finesse and glamour of the beauty industry. This does not take away from her passion to provide answers to questions and skin challenges. Our guest today is Sandy Fuhr, Sandy is a qualified Somatologist with CIDESCO International qualifications. She moved full time into Education in 1996 when she opened her own college called: Beauty Therapy Institute in Cape Town. Sandy is Past-President of the South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP), the Professional Body of the Beauty Industry in South Africa. She is now Past President of CIDESCO International, Switzerland, after spending 8 years as CIDESCO International PR Board member and 1.5 years as President. Sandy now has 13 training colleges in Africa called Beauty Therapy Institute. Two are situated in Nigeria, 1 in Namibia and the other 10 are in South Africa. BTI is a franchised group of colleges, where Sandy is the Franchisor but also owns 2 outright and is in partnership with a 3rd. College #14 is opening shortly in South Africa. Our guest today is Jacoline Wentzel. Jacoline is without a doubt passionate about the Spa Industry, and is a respected industry representative and entrepreneur. Jacoline graduated with a Masters from the Stellenbosch Academy of Health and Skincare Therapy, and continued to excel obtaining her Masters from the South African Institute of Beauty Therapist (SAIBTH), Advanced Aesthetics from the British Confederation, her Masters from Cidesco (International institute of Beauty Therapists), Clinical Aromatherapy Masters from Eve Taylor Aromatherapy and her Aerobics/Fitness Instructor Diploma from the Exercise Teachers Association. It was during the period from 1996 to 2000, that Jacoline truly excelled when working for Steiner Transocean Ltd, when she became the Manager of a Health Spa on board one of the Cruise Liners. Jacoline later become a Steiner Recruitment Manager in South Africa as well as at head office in Lon-don, where she thrived allowing for her to being promoted to Regional Business Manager for Elemis Cosmetics Sales Division in United Kingdom. Jacoline returned to South Africa where she became the Bioharmony Sales Manager for Gauteng, from 2001 to 2003. In 2003 Jacoline was appointed National Sales and Marketing Manager for Nimue S.A. where her expertise and industry knowledge flourished. Jacoline left Nimue in the end of 2005 to open her own distribution and design company, The Spa Warehouse, which is solely devoted to the industry that she loves. For 37-year-old entrepreneur, Izandi Serdyn, being a professional service provider has always come naturally. She’s run a very successful events business for a decade now and is one of the most highly sought-after wedding planners in the industry. Known for her exceptional service and compassion, her empathy and deep understanding of the stressful nature of this life-changing event is what sets her apart. But in 2018 her love of people and their happiness, took a new direction with the launch of her all natural, medical health spa services and wellness range, HEAL and HEALING, respectively. The new business idea was born out of her own experience. It was whilst in ICU that she noticed how hospital patients around her were needing that extra love and self-care. Some needing basic attention such as their hair washed, feet rubbed or just a general ‘pick-me-up’. Izandi was convinced that there was a need for spa and beauty treatments in hospitals to help the healing process. However, she was not just looking at aesthetics, but was specifically looking to produce a range of natural products and services that assisted the healing process as well. She looked to clinical aromatherapy for a solution; a process that involves the chemistry of essential oils that provide therapeutic properties. Ayesha Rajah is a somatologist who has been involved in the spa and skincare industry for over 20 years. She is the owner of Urban Bliss Wellness Spa in Emmarentia, previously owning and managing Aspira Aesthetic Spa in Hyde Park Shopping centre for 15 years. Now managing director of A&I Importers, she facilitates training for 3 skincare brands namely, Phytomer, PRIORI and Skin Doctors. Her 3-year national diploma in Somatology from the University of Johannesburg was subsequently enhanced by several other courses to keep her up to date with the latest technology. Ayesha has also has lend her spa consulting services to start up and established businesses. Marisa Dimitriadis started her career in this industry at age 19.  After 3 short years, her abilities, attitude and fortitude catapulted her to management and on to heading up the skincare division for a large professional beauty brand distributor. She was instrumental in the division seeing turnover tripled in two years and doubled again, after another two years – all this before age 25.  This experience was the catalyst that lead her to launch her first solely owned venture, Spa Consultants, answering a need in the market for a turnkey consultancy to drive spa projects from the ground up. Today, they have successfully managed over 60 contracts in this space.  Marisa has also formulated her own skin (Six) and body (Spalicious) ranges, using only the best ingredients, recyclable packaging, offering value for money and very importantly, product education. The onset of a global pandemic did not deter Marisa. This drove her to launch an online retail platform (Send me That) for spa’s and salons. In 1995 Cherie qualified as a skin care therapist from Camelot international.
